August 2019 Pet Treater Dog Pack Review

This shipment from Pet Treater included 5 items (one was a bonus item for sending them a photo of my pup). I received a toy, 3 treats, and a bandana.

Mini Monthly Mystery Box For Dogs August2019 - Custom Pet Art Front

The first promotional card this month is for 30% of custom pet art! All you do is submit a photo of your pet on the listed website, and their designers will create a one-of-a-kind piece just for you! My dad’s 15-year-old cat recently passed away, so I think I’m going to order one of these for his birthday!

On the other side of this card is a sample of a design that the Petsy company made. Also they have really good reviews listed!

Mini Monthly Mystery Box For Dogs August2019 - Pick Of The Litter Card Front

And here is this month’s pick of the litter card. I just love seeing all these pups, they are just so darn cute! Last month, I submitted a photo of Scout with this Pet Treater swag, and they sent a complimentary cookie this month as a bonus item for sending in the pic!

I love this little guy! This is a great feature, and my kids love seeing all these dogs!

Paw Paw Pet Products Lamb Squeaky Toy

The first and the largest item in this month’s package was this cute fuzzy lamb. It is about 15” tall, and includes 2 different sounding squeakers! While the lamb's “wool” is super soft and fuzzy, it also has stuffing, which my boys will rip apart in a minute. My last qualm is the color: white is definitely not a good color for a dog toy- it ends up brown and dirty in 2 seconds flat! I also found it interesting that the tag listed the website: www.pawpawpetproducts.com, which is non-existent. After an extensive search, I was unable to find a retail value, but do know that dog toys are expensive!

Emmy’s Gourmet Canine Creations Popsicle Cookie - Estimated Value $1.35

This is the 4th month in a row we have received a gourmet cookie, and my dogs are very happy! Every month we have received a new design and my dogs LOVE them! This month I received 2 cookies because I submitted a photo of Scout to the Pet Treater website, so each pup got one of their own! The main ingredient is cheese, and they are beautiful! I am also digging how the rocket design coordinates with the bandana pattern, the bag of treats, and the informational card. The theme is coming together nicely! Emmy’s website features a few different shapes of cookies, but not this one in particular. I did find these cute ice cream cone shaped cookies that are made of the same ingredients, just shaped differently.

The last few months I have noticed that The Pound Bakery is making and packing these treats exclusively for Pet Treater. I have found that they are unavailable online, but all of the pertinent information is on the packaging. I really like the resealable packaging and how the clipart coordinates with the space theme. I also like to see that they are made right here in the USA! The main ingredient is pork, with a crude protein analysis of 17%. Both of my dogs love these so this item is definitely a win!

Mini Monthly Mystery Box For Dogs August2019 - Glow in the Dark Space Bandana Mini Monthly Mystery Box For Dogs August2019 - Glow in the Dark Space Bandana Close Up

Glow in the Dark Space Bandana

Every month this subscription sends one of these bandanas, which is a piece of flannel cloth cut into a triangular shape with pinking shears. While I like the pattern, and that it glows in the dark, I wish it at least had finished edges! After one wash this item would be frayed and garbage. I feel this should be a bonus item instead of one of the main items in the box. I must say though, Scout and Gunner look pretty handsome wearing it!

Verdict: This month of Pet Treater was okay. The toy is a bit of a letdown after last month’s super durable crocodile. The cookies were of course an absolute hit, as were the snacks, but the bandana lacking in quality just didn’t do it for me. I did appreciate the free cookie they sent for submitting a photo to them though! I also appreciate the way the box is coming together into a theme a little more each month- it ties it together so nicely! I can’t wait to see what they send next month!

This month I received 5 items. I couldn’t find any of the exact items online, so just by dividing it out, each item would cost about $3.00, so paying $15 for everything is a pretty good deal!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you’ll receive a collection of pet-approved favorites as a welcome pack. After that, your pet will receive the same monthly shipment as other subscribers. Even then, items vary from shipment to shipment, so you’re not guaranteed the same items as seen here. Standard orders generally ship around the 10th of each month. If you’ve added special requests to your order (allergies, no plush, tough toys, etc.), this may add additional processing and packing times due to the extra labor involved.

I got the zebra too but I also got a dog selfie kit, in addition to the treat, cookie and bandanna. I always count anything additional to the toy and the treat as extra so I don’t mind the bandanna being unfinished. The selfie kit is super cute and my son has had a blast doing a photo shoot with the dog.

The zebra looks like a baby toy. It’s too cute to give it to my dogo argentino, it will be destroyed in 5 seconds!

Oh ya…I forgot about the selfie kit. I thought there was something else but couldn’t place it. Be careful with that zebra….I also forgot there was a hard “whistle” in another one of the feet. I cut that one out myself too just in case…

Soooo…I don’t know what to think about the toy I got this month. It was a zebra and when I first took it out the bag I thought it was odd that it sounded like a rattle. I’ve never seen a dog toy that sounded like a rattle. One of the “hooves” had that rattle sound and another one had a typical squeaker. Stupidly, I didn’t really think more about it though and gave it to my dog which, of course, loved it and ran off to immediately try to rip open the feet and get to the noise-causing items. Luckily I was supervising him (since he is a destroyer) because shortly later I heard a loud crunch. Even my dog stopped for a minute like he was confused. But, of course, he kept going. When I heard the second loud crunch I realized it wasn’t just the squeaker dying, but something “worse.” Sure enough the rattle was little steel balls enclosed in a very hard plastic (almost shattered like ceramic) housing. The crunching was the shattering…into small, very sharp pieces. I quickly grabbed those away from him and fortunately he doesn’t usually EAT his “kills” but spits them out anyways but it could have easily cut his mouth too. I wouldn’t even want to imagine how much it might hurt to have to pass all the way through. And the steel balls were all over my carpet. I thought I picked them all out but found one under my ottoman this weekend with the vacuum. Who puts that in a dog toy?!?! So, in case anyone else got the zebra…be careful with destructive dogs, or better yet, cut it out yourself first before you give it to them! Craziness.

Thanks for the warning!!! I haven’t given the zebra yet to my pittie but she is quite destructive.
