Scent Box August 2019 Review
This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”
The information card usually has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side. Because this month’s scent was unisex, the information card was only printed on one side.
In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.
On to the fragrance:
CK One Platinum Edition – Estimated Value $8.48 (Buy 1.7 fl oz for $53)
This was first introduced a year ago and is still being sold, although I note the larger sizes are sold out on the manufacturer’s website and the smaller bottle is discounted, so it may be on the way out (or it may be considered a limited edition).
Top notes include aldehydes, cardamom, and Granny Smith apple, none of which were super obvious on me. Mid notes are pink pepper, cinnamon, and lavender. The cinnamon is pretty weak but the pink pepper and lavender are more prominent (at least on me – fragrances wear differently on different people based on body chemistry). Base notes are vetiver, amber, and cashmere wood, and these kind of stick out as most prominent to me throughout the whole experience of wearing the fragrance.
I found the sillage to be pretty light and the longevity to be a couple of hours (I reapplied midday because some scented hand lotion I used obliterated the smell of this fragrance).
I guess in the end I find this OK but nothing to necessarily write home about. I can see it working as a unisex fragrance, for sure.
Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $8.48. I think this must have been intended as a limited-edition release because it is already at the fragrance discounters and is sold out from the manufacturer in larger sizes. This means Scent Box might be a good place to get limited edition scents that are being phased out, if you are late to the party and find something you like that is getting to be rare as time goes on. Although it isn’t super exciting for me, it isn’t objectionable either, and I will wear it from time to time. The value of the scent of the month is about typical and it is less than the subscription cost. Three things make it a little better deal: (1) choose your own scent instead of opting for the monthly default, (2) remember you get a holder every month instead of every couple of months, and (3) there are free exchanges if something doesn’t work for you.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.
Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $8.48 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).
