Summer 2019 Super Geek Box Prime Review
This volume of Super Geek Box Prime features six items across five franchises.
It comes with this little info card that details each item. Past Super Geek Boxes came with a little button, so naturally, the Prime edition would come with a big button.
Classic Collage Power Tee – Estimated Value $15
My 11-year-old son loves this tee! He is modeling it. It's an adult small, so it's a little big on him, but still wearable. I never know if the clothing item is going to be in my older or younger son's wheelhouse in terms of fandom, so I ordered the subscription in the older one's size. In any case, this tee features a collage of classic video game characters such as Kirby and Mario. This is a Super Geek Box Exclusive.
Toy Story 4 Lanyard – Buy 6 for $14.89
I have learned that there's no such thing as being too old for Toy Story. My kids made me take them to see the newest one, and I enjoyed it myself! This lanyard was included in this month's package, but it is not listed on the info card. I guess that makes it a bonus!
Disney & Pixar Mystery Mini Blind Bag Plush by Funko – Retail Value $3.99 (on sale here for $3.59)
This was another great treat for my 11-year-old. He loves putting these keychain type toys on his backpack. And he got Woody! Score! This is a particularly cute version of Woody.
Disney Rapunzel Pocket Pop Keychain by Funko – Retail Value $5.83 (on sale here for $5)
While we did see Tangled, it is safe to assume that this was not a big hit with either of my middle-school-age sons. That being said, one of the things I like about Super Geek Box is that they send several items, so a miss or two is not a big deal, and the misses always go into a bin for last-minute birthday gifts for the boys' friends or one of my nieces or nephews. It is really handy, and the items never go to waste!
Tsum Tsum Playing Cards by Disney – Retail Value $7
I think it's pretty cool that the plastic Mickey head is a case for the cards within! This is a basic memory card game, so it's a little young for my sons. See my comment above about gifts, and I do have a little nephew who is about to turn 4! Perfect!
Shocking Discoveries Snap Hat by NerdCre8 – Estimated Value $10
I believe Nerd Cre8 is Super Geek's own apparel line, so this must be another exclusive! It also means I can't find a retail value, haha. In any case, my eleven-year-old is currently sporting this cap as his tribe is deep into Pokemon at the moment. It's a sturdy canvas with Detective Picachu front and center!
Tsum Tsum Mickey Mouse Bath Rug by Disney – Retail Value $19.99
If I'm being honest, my kids are no longer into Mickey Mouse, so really, the member of our household who loves this rug the most is our cat. The boys needed a new bath rug, so it's perfect, but I can't say they're really excited about it. They're not against it, per se, but they are just kind of neutral.
Verdict: My sons LOVE Super Geek Box Prime! Having said that, this was not their favorite box ever. SGBP usually hits all their favorite franchises and is usually age-appropriate, but this particular package seems better suited to younger kids. The 11-year-old was really happy about the tee, the hat, and the Woody keychain, but there wasn't really anything for the 13-year-old. The last box had a Rick and Morty sweatshirt, and this one had Mickey Mouse memory cards. I think SGBP should just pick an age range and go for it. Or maybe offer two different boxes? One for little kids and one for big kids? Here's hoping the fall box is better! In terms of value, a couple of my figures are estimates, but if they are near correct, the value of this box is somewhere around the cost of the box ($66) and well short of the promised value of over $100. That's also a little disappointing.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. You’ll start with the Volume 5 box for fall.
ACTIVE DEAL: Save $2 off of your first month
CODE: LVL+1
Value Breakdown: This box was $66 shipped. If you subtract the known values for the lanyard ($2.48), the blind bag ($3.99), the keychain ($5.83), the cards ($7), and the rug ($19.99) that leaves $26.71 for the hat and the tee. That's an overall average of $9.43 per item.
