Allure Beauty Box September 2019 Review

Let's see what products are inside!

La Roche-Posay Lipikar Eczema Soothing Relief Cream, 5 ml - Estimated Value $0.37 (Buy 200 ml for $14.99)

I doubt everyone will be thrilled with this product, but as someone who suffers from eczema, I was overjoyed to see it. I have these spots on my legs that literally stick around for years! I have to be very careful using lotions on them because they get easily annoyed and vengeful. This gentle cream was non-irritating, hydrating, and actually super affordable if I choose to buy more. I didn't notice any redness reduction and it certainly didn't make my spots start to fade or disappear, but it hydrated them without bothering them, so I consider this a win. Any other eczema sufferers out there? Have you discovered a holy grail for your patches?

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.50 (Buy a full-size 4 fl oz for $9.99)

Acure is one of those brands I like because the products are effective, affordable, and accessible. My local Target has a nice selection! This scrub looks a little unappealing when you first squeeze it from the tube, but turns a more pleasant green as you rub it onto your face. I like weirdly colored masks for some reason, so this just added to its allure for me personally. Unlike so many clay products out there I didn't find it excessively drying, and my skin was really soft after I washed this formula away. This is a great choice for someone with sensitive or super dry skin who wants to exfoliate without being too abrasive.

NatureLab Smooth Shampoo, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.22 (Buy a full-size 11.5 oz for $14.00)

Mmmmm! This shampoo smells like my favorite Japanese treat: yuzu! Think delightfully bitter citrus with an edgy bite. This shampoo works well too, and make my scalp feel super calm, but also very clean. This smooth collection is targeted towards dry hair, and as someone with exceptionally dry strands, I can verify that my hair was absolutely less frizzy and markedly shinier.

NatureLab Smooth Conditioner, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.22 (Buy a full-size 11.5 oz for $14.00)

This conditioner was stellar, just like the shampoo. The amazing scent was a little more demure in the creamy base of the conditioner, but it still smelled delightful. I used this exclusively on my ends because I do not condition my scalp and I loved the smoothness it added to my hair after I let it air dry. I tend to be a Davines enthusiast, but this pair might make me branch out to a new brand for my daily shampoo and conditioner, especially at this great pricepoint!

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita,  0.08 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $27.00

(Subscribers will either receive this or Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

I own a few of these pencils and I already know I love them. My fave by far is 'Dragon Girl', a vibrant and glamorous red that sometimes leans neon depending on what I am wearing. This color is a little more subdued, but still magical on my face. It is kind of like my natural lip color but oh, so much better! The beauty of these pencils is that they are more of a sheer formula, and very buildable. They also have this powdery matte finish that is somehow not drying at all. If you are a fan of the Korean cloud velvet lipstick trend, these are probably worth a try for you too!

I love you.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $58.31, which is great for a $15 box. I was so tickled with the NARS lip pencil that would have been enough to justify the whole thing, but I am glad the shampoo, conditioner, scrub, and cream were also big hits for me. I am less enthused about the glow stick, but perhaps I am using it wrong or maybe it is just not built for my makeup style. All in all, I really enjoyed this month's box and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well rounded and very fun beauty box subscription.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This is my first box from Allure and for ten dollars (with coupon) I’m really pleased. I agree the eczema creme is really random but I have a terrible skin rash from black mold poisoning I had at my last apartment that’s still healing. I put it on and it has really soozed the itching and discomfort, so i think I’m going to buy a whole bottle. But this isn’t exactly the typical situation so I understand why not everyone would want that. I haven’t quite figured out what to do with the dew yet other than make my skin greasy, but I’m sure I’ll work something out. Pretty neat trying a new product I wouldn’t have ever purchased otherwise.

That shampoo and conditioner is my new holy grail for this frizzy curly girl.

I checked both boxes and I got shampoo in both.

My husband was admiring the quality of the box (Amazon arrived today), so I gave it to him. He’ll probably use it to organize hobby stuff.

I received my box yesterday direct from Allure and I received the powder. I thought it was nice that it came in a little box with a matching small puff. I would have been happy with Nars product, but I slightly preferred the powder because I travel quite a bit and nice to have travel size.

Did anyone get Nature Lab perfect smooth blowout lotion instead of shampoo? I THINK it might actually be shampoo in a mislabeled tube, but I’m not sure. Very odd.

Reply ButtonReply

SKD

Yes! I got the blowout serum stuff instead of shampoo too. Odd. And makes it useless for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I tried using it like shampoo and I think it IS shampoo in a mislabeled tube. My hair is very fine and very thin and I used the “shampoo” all over, focusing on my roots, and then the conditioner on the ends. I think if it were actually the blowout lotion that combination would have left my hair super greasy. I was planning to use a clarifying/buildup-reducing shampoo I got in another box if I was wrong, but I think it actually IS mislabeled shampoo. I say try it on a day you can stay home and wash again just in case!

Pink5

I got my box today and, yay, got the powder!

Now if the Amazon box has the pencil, I’m golden.

Maria

Got mine today (on my birthday, no less) and got the powder too. This is the first time I’ve gotten the LM powder.

Your Friends @MSA

Happy Birthday, Maria!

Amanda

Has anyone received theirs from Amazon yet? I ordered it on the 2nd and haven’t received anything which is odd because it usually comes quickly from Amazon. Then I got an email today saying my subscription was cancelled. But I didn’t cancel it? I really wanted the Nars lip pencil, but I think this is the universe saying I don’t need it.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I got mine today, after a mix-up on payment cards.

It came with the Nars pencil, which is great since I got the powder in the regular Allure sub.

Glad to see they’re back to a box. Much more useful and eco-friendly. I’m looking forward to trying the Dewy Stick. I do minimal makeup on the weekends and think it will be a nice addition. I hope I get the Nars pencil since I’m getting a full-size finishing powder in my Glam Bag plus. But if I do get the Laura Mercier, can’t really complain about having that as a backup.

I have about 6, is your swap name the same?

Megan have you tried the LXMI balm in your legs? I hate the smell but fir some Reason that stuff worked miracles on my eczema yet any other Shea butter makes my legs very vengeful and angry as you put it…And thanks to multiple Epsie subscriptions I have enough tubes of that stuff to last a lifetime

Emily

I have really bad eczema-like dry patches on my hands one winter (never got it diagnosed, but no regular lotion would help) until someone suggest Eucerin fro eczema and it worked within days.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Oh! I haven’t! I think I have ever only tried their lip balm, and I did love that. Adding the actual balm to my shopping cart now. Thanks for the rec! I will try anything at this point!

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy

Megan,
I have eczema on my back. My dermatologist suggested CeraVe and it has worked better than any prescription I’ve tried. It’s packed with ceramide’s. You can get it at any drug store.

O

Still never got my July “free mystery gift” which was the F.A.B product. I called in twice and they promised to send but I never got it. Probably pointless to call back in September, though.

Reply ButtonReply

Ckay

I never got mine!! Almost a year ago. I called every 3 months and finally gave up lol

Reply ButtonReply

Joanne

I paid for 2 subscriptions and never got one

DB

Really skimpy box, in my opinion, both in products and size of them (.17 oz for two of them? really??). Very disappointing with no great “wow” that I am used to feeling when I get my Allure box. Are they tired of curating boxes and want to get out of the business or what?

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

The shampoo and conditioner are 1.0 oz apiece, as is the scrub.

The LaRoche Posay is .17, so that’s a little disappointing.

Reply ButtonReply

Emilia

Skipped and happy. October looks much better.

Reply ButtonReply

DeeCee

I so want that NARS Lippie.
Does anyone know if the amazon boxes come with them or the powder?

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

If you get the powder, and I get a lippie – I’ll trade you. I have way too many lippies (this color looks beautiful though!)

My swap profile should link through if you click my name.

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

If you look at it on Amazon it says you will receive the Nars lippie.

Reply ButtonReply

Samantha

I believe someone posted on reddit that the amazon box comes with the NARS lippie.

The ciate london dewy stick I’m extremely excited about! This stick is Allie Glines new obsession shes been using it like for the past few months and it looks stunning the way she uses with a full glam face! I can’t wait to try this out, and the nars!

Reply ButtonReply

Tanya M

Jamie, curious about how this Allie applies but admit I like to boomerang beam as light hits my cheekbones and sends signals across the universe. I am not seeing how this works based on the Allure email video for this month’s unboxing. Thanks

Cancelled a couple months ago and don’t regret it one bit. The boxes just aren’t what they used to be anymore.

Reply ButtonReply

Tina Ames

I am not impress with this months box neither, and the value of this months box is so low….So far this year all of the boxes have had a value of 75.00 and up,this months box does not even hit the 60.00 mark…And the products are not that great neither, the two full size products are not for me,as I can not wear any shades of red in lippies, and the Ciaté London Dewy Stix is not foe me neither….I do like all the little sample products but they are little and not worth much….Oh well I guess you have to have 1 or 2 boxes a year that is not that great, hopefully next months and the the rest of the year will be amazing boxes to make up for this one.

Reply ButtonReply

Kari

This an okay box! Nothing grand and nothing bland. I hope I get the translucent powder. Because of subscription boxes I have over 100 lipsticks. I’m always excited for shampoo and conditioner because I travel a lot for work.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I’m actually in quite the opposite situation i have way too much setting powder so another one would just go to waste i could never have enough lipstick.

Reply ButtonReply

Meg

I am pretty new to Allure (this will be my 4th box) but so far I’m happy. At the price point I feel like if I receive two items I like then it’s worth it – especially love the full size items. The Huda box was a miss for me (if only I were glam enough for red lips and falsies) but otherwise I’ve found most of the products to be useful or at least fun to try so not a waste. I use to get Birchbox and found that I was using very few of the samples and also felt like a sucker paying for a box of (exclusively) samples every month – the cute boxes were my favorite part of each month’s package and they alone are not worth the $10/15.

Reply ButtonReply

Diane

I’m glad that Allure sends basically the same box to everyone. That way I know to pause after I see the spoilers. I skipped September. I wish I could tell what I was getting in the Sephora box, in time to skip.

I tried the shampoo and conditioner last night. My hair had been feeling dry and coarse lately and after it dried, my hair has not felt this silky or been this shiny in a long time.

I think I’m in love.

Reply ButtonReply

Debby

I love the shampoo and conditioner combo too. I for sure thought I was going to hate them, my hair being so dry in the roots and oily in the scalp by my hair loves them. I have bought the full size of both now. I’m shocked.

Anna

I have the shampoo and conditioner from a previous Ipsy offer and now I am super excited to try it thanks to this review! I have frizzy hair so hopefully this makes a difference.
I do wish allure wouldn’t do variations, that was why I selected this box in the past; good brands and no variation to be disappointed over.

Reply ButtonReply

Kay

Another girl with frizzy (and color treated) hair here! I will save this for my trips since it is a good travel size!

Reply ButtonReply

Teresa

I tried it last night and it’s nice. It doesn’t clean the scalp really well but the hair feels clean and it was less frizzy. It’s cheaper than the Living Proof I’ve been using and I think it maybe better, time will tell. I really really like it and it isn’t real scented which is nice. I will be buying it for sure.

I went to swap for more on the site and found people are jacking up the value asking as much as $10 for the set.

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

I am glad I skipped only thing I like is Nars pencil. Bring on more October spoilers!!!

Reply ButtonReply

tammy g

this looks ok to me…can’t wait to get it..

Reply ButtonReply

Jody

Love the look of the pencil. Always up to trying new shampoos.

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

The pencil was the highlight for me. It is so easy to wear and I already knew I loved the formula.

Reply ButtonReply

sara

IMO this is a ‘meh’ box. Not terrible, not wonderful. Still more useful for me than false eyelashes and bright red lipstick.

I do wish that Allure would quit the variations though. I remember back when they didn’t do them! Ah, those were the days. I’m not a fan of being bummed because I was unlucky and got something I didn’t want. I’ve got Ipsy for that lol.
