Allure Beauty Box September 2019 Review
Let's see what products are inside!
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Eczema Soothing Relief Cream, 5 ml - Estimated Value $0.37 (Buy 200 ml for $14.99)
I doubt everyone will be thrilled with this product, but as someone who suffers from eczema, I was overjoyed to see it. I have these spots on my legs that literally stick around for years! I have to be very careful using lotions on them because they get easily annoyed and vengeful. This gentle cream was non-irritating, hydrating, and actually super affordable if I choose to buy more. I didn't notice any redness reduction and it certainly didn't make my spots start to fade or disappear, but it hydrated them without bothering them, so I consider this a win. Any other eczema sufferers out there? Have you discovered a holy grail for your patches?
Acure Brightening Facial Scrub, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.50 (Buy a full-size 4 fl oz for $9.99)
Acure is one of those brands I like because the products are effective, affordable, and accessible. My local Target has a nice selection! This scrub looks a little unappealing when you first squeeze it from the tube, but turns a more pleasant green as you rub it onto your face. I like weirdly colored masks for some reason, so this just added to its allure for me personally. Unlike so many clay products out there I didn't find it excessively drying, and my skin was really soft after I washed this formula away. This is a great choice for someone with sensitive or super dry skin who wants to exfoliate without being too abrasive.
NatureLab Smooth Shampoo, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.22 (Buy a full-size 11.5 oz for $14.00)
Mmmmm! This shampoo smells like my favorite Japanese treat: yuzu! Think delightfully bitter citrus with an edgy bite. This shampoo works well too, and make my scalp feel super calm, but also very clean. This smooth collection is targeted towards dry hair, and as someone with exceptionally dry strands, I can verify that my hair was absolutely less frizzy and markedly shinier.
NatureLab Smooth Conditioner, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.22 (Buy a full-size 11.5 oz for $14.00)
This conditioner was stellar, just like the shampoo. The amazing scent was a little more demure in the creamy base of the conditioner, but it still smelled delightful. I used this exclusively on my ends because I do not condition my scalp and I loved the smoothness it added to my hair after I let it air dry. I tend to be a Davines enthusiast, but this pair might make me branch out to a new brand for my daily shampoo and conditioner, especially at this great pricepoint!
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita, 0.08 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $27.00
(Subscribers will either receive this or Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder)
I own a few of these pencils and I already know I love them. My fave by far is 'Dragon Girl', a vibrant and glamorous red that sometimes leans neon depending on what I am wearing. This color is a little more subdued, but still magical on my face. It is kind of like my natural lip color but oh, so much better! The beauty of these pencils is that they are more of a sheer formula, and very buildable. They also have this powdery matte finish that is somehow not drying at all. If you are a fan of the Korean cloud velvet lipstick trend, these are probably worth a try for you too!
I love you.
Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $58.31, which is great for a $15 box. I was so tickled with the NARS lip pencil that would have been enough to justify the whole thing, but I am glad the shampoo, conditioner, scrub, and cream were also big hits for me. I am less enthused about the glow stick, but perhaps I am using it wrong or maybe it is just not built for my makeup style. All in all, I really enjoyed this month's box and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a well rounded and very fun beauty box subscription.
