Our first product is from the popular skincare line, Dr. Brandt. If you are not familiar with Dr. Brandt skincare, it is a high-end skincare brand that delivers great skincare products. This particular item is called the Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask. It's an overnight leave-on mask that is enriched with unique properties that combine both peptides and antioxidants. These help to soothe the skin and fight off any redness you may have. It uses special ingredients like tea, Boswellia, and honey. This mask is supposed to aid in hydrating and restoring your skin as you sleep. It claims to restore dry skin in 24 hours while maintaining the skin barrier to prevent moisture loss. There are so many claims it's hard to keep up.
I tried this product last night for the first time, and I must say that I was very surprised! I applied a thin coat onto clean, dry skin and I woke up to skin that felt amazingly fresh, smooth and moisturized. It has a fresh scent that's not too overbearing and a little bit goes a long way. It feels more like a lightweight moisturizer than a mask to me. I love the texture and how it reminds me of a water-gel based cream that absorbs quickly and evenly into the skin. Of course this is just my first night using this product so I can't say what it will be like after continued use, however, it made my skin feel great, so I would definitely continue to use it.
Our next product is from MŌDA, it's the black and white 5 Piece MŌDA Pro Bold Brush Set. Some people may get tired of always receiving brushes, but I see it as a plus in my book. We have received brushes from this brand before in previous boxes, so I already know how awesome they are. These brushes are made with great quality and are super easy to use and clean. My favorite part is the waterproof textured silk touch handles. They make it a lot easier to get a nice firm grip while you are creating your eye look. I will definitely be using these as we move on to our next product.
I’m super excited to be receiving a Violet Voss Eyeshadow Palette. I didn't own anything from this brand until now. The Essentials Eyeshadow Palette has ten shades in all. There are five mattes and five metallics, which is awesome in creating both warm neutral looks as well as nighttime looks. I love the pops of color in this palette and can't wait to try these out.
The 1st brush I used was the BMX 466 shade brush and I used the color Cinnamon to place on my lids and upper crease as a transition shade.
Here is how that matte shade looks alone, it's a very warm brown tone.
Next, I used my finger to place the color Emerald, a deep metallic green shade, to the lids of my eyes.
Here is how it looks.
Next, I took the BMX 420 brush to the lower lash line and added the green metallic shade to the lower lash line.
Here is how it looks so far.
Next, I took the BMX 430 crease brush and color Plum Berry to the outer corners of my eyes and slightly towards the center of my lids.
Here is how the Plum Berry metallic shade looks, it's a very pretty lilac purple shade.
Then using the BMX 420 brush I applied the color black on the very outer corners of my eyes, on the outside of the purple color. This way all the outer colors mesh together as one. I used small circular motions to blend out the black shade.
The very last step was to use the BMX 402 brush and add the color pink under each brow bone.
Here is the final eye look, I hope you guys were able to follow along and achieve this eye look. I love how pigmented and easy to blend these shadows were, and how the metallic shades didn't end up all over my face.
After filling in my brows, adding some black eyeliner, a few coats of black mascara, primer, foundation and tons of setting powder it's time to move on to our next product and complete this makeup look.
Our next product is from Laura Geller and it's the Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in the shade Gilded Honey. It's a gorgeous golden shade that is in the shape of an Italian dessert. It's supposed to give you a lit from within glow, and those just happen to be my favorite types of highlighters to use. I can't wait to grab a brush and put this on.
Here is how the highlighter looks.
It goes on like a powder but definitely feels like a cream. I placed this on the tip of my nose, and the highs of my cheekbones. I really love the way it looks and how it has a subtle glow. I don't like to get too crazy when it comes to highlighting, so this will definitely be something I will reach for daily.
Our final product is a lipstick, and I can't believe we received a M.A.C. product this month! I think almost everyone is familiar with the all-time favorite M.A.C. cosmetics. It’s their Frost Lipstick CB 96 and it looks like a metallic deep orange color that I’m hoping will look well on my skin tone. The formula is very smooth and you can use it as a light sheer color or as a bold pearl finish.
Here is how the lip product looks alone.
Here is how it looks with a plum lipliner added to it, and I can't believe how well they blend together. I will let you guys decide which one you like better.
Verdict: I’m really amazed at the top brands we received in this month's BoxyCharm, however, if I had to pick one item that stood out to me, it would have to be the Violet Voss palette. I love the colors and how easily they blend. I’m sure I can come up with tons of great looks. I would love to know what you guys think about this month's BoxyCharm.
