Now, on to the items!
Too Faced Natural Face Palette - Retail Value $44.00
I absolutely LOVE this palette. It is tuned for a more natural look, which suits my general makeup vibes just fine. It has two highlighters, two blushes, and two bronzer "veils". Though the first bronzer (Sunny Honey) made me look more like I had a 5 o'clock shadow than a glow, I did find that the second (Tropic Like It's Hot) was totally doable on my fair skin as a bronzer, as long as I was light-handed with my application. My favorite shade on this would easily be Pink Sand. It is this gorgeous dirty pink that works well on my cheeks or my lids. The highlighters are really great too, one leans more champagne and the other more pink, and both are as subtle or as bold as you want them to be! Pink Wink is just an over-the-top, fun, true sweet pink that was so pretty on the apples of my cheeks. All of these shades smell like some sort of delicious dessert and the palette itself is really heavy and high quality.
Top to bottom: Starlight, Pink Wink, Sunny Honey, Satin Sheets, Pink Sand, and Tropic Like It's Hot
Dr. Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $52.00
I usually really like Dr. Brandt products and this is no exception. My skin is really angry right now because I have been using Tretinoin at night and my skin is in that rebellious dry phase. This sleep mask arrived at a perfect time! I used this calming mask as my very last skincare step before bed. I found that it really calmed my skin down and reduced the redness that always occurs when I use super strong anti-aging products. I woke up with calm and soft skin, and noticed it was significantly less red all day. It is worth noting that the normal full size of this comes in a tub, while ours arrived in a tube. The amount of product is the same and I actually prefer a tube any day over a tub!
Moda Brushes 5 Piece Brush Kit - Listed Value $27.95
I don't love these Moda brushes, but this is likely because I prefer my minimal black Morphe brushes. I actually just received a 6 piece eye set in my September MorpheMe subscription that I really like! These don't quite compare for me, but they are still a solid set of brushes. Included is every sort of brush you would need for a complete eye look: a shader, crease, detail, smudge, and a liner.
Hank & Henry Beauty Liquid Liner in Blickity Black, 0.55 ml - Retail Value $17.00
I think I must have received 3-4 black eyeliner pens in the last week. Though I am feeling a little liner fatigue, I have never tried anything from Hank & Henry, so I was very curious. The packaging is really nice and I like the brush style tip. My only complaint is that this isn't as black as I would expect. It was actually really demure. Aside from that, that staying power was good and I liked the satiny finish.
It could absolutely be darker!
Billion Dollar Brows The Microblade Effect Brow Pen, 0.7 ml - Retail Value $18.00
This is the second time I have gotten a brow pen with this sort of tip and while I think the idea is genius, the execution leaves much to be desired. Let me explain! This works amazing for the first few strokes. Then the brush tip stops marking because it becomes covered in your foundation or powder. No makeup? If you use a cream or moisturizer, this will also be an issue. I usually get one really great looking brow and then it stops working by the second. It is such a bummer because it really does look great! Those little tips make for very convincing hairs. But for now, I find myself sticking to my pencil or spoolie brow products.
If only it worked consistently!
Verdict: My BoxyCharm box has an overall value of around $158.95, which is awesome for a $21 box. My two favorite items (the palette and the sleep mask) were worth a whopping $96 alone, making this box more than worth that $21 subscription cost. The brushes were a nice addition, though they can't replace the ones already in my collection. I was less impressed with the liner and brow pen, but I am still very happy overall with this box. I loved the assortment of brands and I thought there was a ton of product variety in here! BoxyCharm continues to be one of the best values out there and I am always so excited to open it each month.
