Bulu Box September 2019 Review
There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:
Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.
There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box, although sometimes they do.

Bare Bones Bone Broth, Beef (1 serving) – Buy 16 Sticks for $29.99
This is a beverage mix. Obviously this one is not vegetarian so I was unable to try it. I am pretty sure this is aimed at more meat-heavy diets, like keto and paleo. Collagen protein, when consumed orally, does have some proven benefits with respect to skin, hair, and nail condition. I, personally, have a hard time drinking savory things (I have some drinkable veggie broth) except when I am sick but your mileage may vary. This is not really something that can be mixed into a smoothie although you probably could cook with it.

Blister Balm Protective Lip Treatment (0.15 oz) – Retail Value $14.99
I was not expecting this to be a rollerball. This is something you are supposed to apply every day to prevent cold sores. It has menthol in it as well as peppermint so it feels a little like one of those plumping lip products, which unfortunately, I find to be an unpleasant experience. But then again, I can’t even remember the last time I had a cold sore, it’s been decades. I do think this is probably a good idea for the upcoming fall and winter seasons when people tend to get more run down, which may otherwise lead to flare-ups.
Medline Remedy Moisturizing Body Lotion (1 fl oz) – Buy 3 oz for $4.99
This has antioxidants but is also hypoallergenic (no aloe, no phthalates, no sulfates, and free of numerous other possible irritants as well). I usually use scented body lotions but every now and then I will have a reaction to one and need to tone it down for a few days while my skin calms down a bit, and this will be perfect for those times. I tried a bit on my hands and it did absorb pretty well.
OMG Nutrition Berry Blast (1 serving) – Buy 30 Packets for $24.99
This is a magnesium supplement that’s vegan and that is supposed to be non-laxative (some magnesium supplements do have a laxative effect). This is sweetened with stevia so it’s not my absolute favorite flavor, but if you mix it up at half strength, the stevia isn’t as noticeable. This does also have citric acid; the tartness helps the fruity flavor but this is super overpowering in a smoothie. It should basically be considered an alternative product to Natural Calm. If magnesium is something you’re interested in taking, do be sure to also get calcium as taking a lot of magnesium over time has been shown to lead to calcium depletion, but it’s nice to receive this sample because sometimes you just need to try a lot of products to see which one fits best into your lifestyle.

PerkUp Energy Booster, Strawberry Shock (4 tablets) - Buy 60 for $19.99
This was a pleasant surprise. It only has 50 mg of caffeine, so like a small cup of coffee or a strong cup of tea, maybe, which is a safe amount to consume at once. The initial flavor was quite good (you’re supposed to let this melt in your mouth rather than chew it, which I only learned after I chewed it…) although it was a little bitter at the end. This morning I woke up with a pounding headache (seriously, no idea why) and I’m not supposed to take Advil or Aleve because of some medication I’m on, but no one warned me off caffeine, so I took one of these and I really think it helped wake me up and get rid of my headache. If you like ViterEnergy Mints, this is a similar product with a different flavor selection.

Jet-Asleep Double Strength Nighttime Sleep Aid (1 caplet) – Buy 100 for $8.89
You’ll get a lot of sleep aids in Bulu Box. This one is unique in that it does not contain melatonin. It is basically double-strength Benadryl, it has the same active ingredient. I haven’t needed this yet but I know how diphenhydramine acts on me so I am saving this until a night when I am trying to sleep and I also have a stuffy nose, or else when I get a rash or welts from a contact allergy.

Vahdam Teas Sampler (5 bags) – Buy a 15-bag assortment for $9.99
This stuff is everywhere lately but I guess it is kind of working on me because I’ve purchased lots of it in the past few months. I am boring so my favorite is plain black (Darjeeling) but I also like the turmeric spiced tea for when my gums are feeling irritated; turmeric is anti-inflammatory and that one also contains ginger so it is soothing on the digestive tract as well.

Verdict: This month’s box had 7 samples, so they’d average about $1.43 each. The variety this month was pretty good and I am especially happy to have discovered the PerkUp, which I may very well buy more of. I’m always a fan of Vahdam teas, as well.
I’d strongly recommend using a coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both, since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, October would be your first shipment. Also keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
