Creepy Crate Spooky Summer Goodies Review
This month’s Creepy Crate selections have a bevy of ghastly goodies great for the summer and beyond!
Creature from the Black Lagoon Tumbler — Retail Value $20
Gill-man aka the Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of my favorite classic Universal Monsters, so I was excited to unbox this beauty! This tumbler is fantastic to keep drinks ice cold-- due to the double-layered plastic cup and screw top lid! It is still warm and humid out in my neck of the woods, so this tumbler has come in handy at night on my deck as well at the office. This will carry me into Halloween fall months and beyond as well, because what is more classic than The Creature?
Bookhouse Boys from Twin Peaks Baseball Cap — Retail Value $20
Oh man, the hits keep coming with this month’s box! Here we have a baseball cap inspired by the Bookhouse Boys (aka Citizens Brigade… just doesn’t have the same ring to it, right?), a secret society formed to combat the darkness surrounding the town of Twin Peaks (on the cult David Lynch show of the same name). I am not much of a hat person due to my gargantuan head and even bigger hair, but I attempted to model this hat for you guys anyhow. The hat does have an adjuster in the back, but my dome is so big that mattered little. Even though hats are a fail for me, I was able to gift this to another fan of the show that happens to look awesome in hats! I would love to see more David Lynch themed items in upcoming boxes since he is one of my favorite directors!
Tanz Dance Academy from Suspiria Pennant — Retail Value $15
Guys, I was so relieved to see this was the original Suzy Bannion of Dario Argento’s original, Suspiria, and not from the 2018 version. I actually have a small, growing collection of pennants and I think this will be a great addition! The pennant is made of screen printed, stiff felt material and can easily be taped to one’s wall to display. Truly, this may be one of my favorite items in this month’s box!
Firestarter Match Box — Listed Value $8
Another cult classic is the movie Firestarter, which is based on a Stephen King novel and stars a young Drew Barrymore. I appreciate whoever came up with creating this pack of literal fire starters— it is incredibly clever. These are such a neat collectible that I would strongly suggest displaying these matches and not using them, but that’s me!
Ghost Hunt Weekends Tour $50 Gift Voucher — Listed Value $50
This item is pretty self-explanatory: a gift card for a ghost hunt event. I went to the site and was blown away by the different events ranging in a variety of cities in Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia. The Savannah Ghost Hunt in December on Friday the 13th especially has my interest piqued! These Ghost Hunt Weekends are events created by independent paranormal author and researcher, Chad Morin. The events are all hosted at purportedly haunted venues—pretty wild! This gift voucher is for $50 to apply towards a Ghost Event of your choosing!
The Killer Across the Table by John Douglas & Mark Olshaker — Retail Value $15.99
This book may be my favorite—and that says a lot since this month’s Creepy Crate selections were on point! I was most eager to read this since it is written by legendary FBI criminal profiler and inspiration for the Netflix show, Mindhunter, John Douglas! This book is utterly fascinating and details John Douglas’ time spent investigating and researching four murderers/serial killers: Joseph McGowan, Joseph Robert Kondro, Donald Harvey, and Todd Kohlnepp. This book came out in May, so it is a fairly new release! It is a page turner whether at the pool or sitting on your sofa. I assure you that you won’t be able to put it down!
Verdict: This may be my favorite Creepy Crate yet that I have reviewed! There wasn’t a single item this month I didn't enjoy, but my favorite of the bunch would have to be the John Douglas book and the Gill-man tumbler. These boxes are so thoughtfully curated and truly appeal to a wide range of spooky folks. Whether you are a horror movie nut, true crime fiend, or occult fanatic—you will find something you like in Creepy Crate! I also am blown away constantly by how much you get in this $29.99 box. I tallied up the values of this month’s box and it came up to $128.99! That is nearly $100 more than the box itself! What a killer value!
