JoahBox August 2019 Review
When you first subscribe to JoahBox, there are four drop-down menus to customize your experience:
You will choose your birth month, skin tone (ranging from "very fair" to "dark brown"), your skin type (oily, dry, combination, acne-prone, dull/aging, or sensitive/redness) and if you'd prefer to receive more skincare, makeup, or both.
This month, JoahBox is celebrating their 2 year anniversary! Hurray! They've also unveiled a new box design that is super cute! In a world of many beauty subscriptions, I think presentation can really set one apart and JoahBox strives to do just that. Their small booklet goes over each item, the retail value, and how to use it.
Kicho Ultra Moisturizing Cream & Correct Control Cream Samples
Not included as items, but JoahBox has sent a couple of moisturizer samples from Kicho. Previously, I've only known Kicho for their brushes, so I was eager to try out these two samples. I love that the ultra-moisturizing cream has an SPF of 50 and it is really soft and absorbs quickly. I was really impressed with the CC cream. I had only tried BB creams before this one but it gave me the light coverage I prefer and has an SPF of 30. It makes my skin look and feel dewy which I am super into.
Aminow Body Scrub - Listed Value $2.50
This single-serving body scrub is so much more gentle than I'd expect from a scrub. It sort of has the consistency of the contents of those jelly ice packs you get with meal kits. I don't really get a rough feeling from it at all as I do with other salt or sugar scrubs. It smells really nice- sort of like clean laundry and made my skin feel really soft after my shower.
Get It Beauty CeLABrity Aqua Mask - Listed Value $4.00
I really enjoyed this sheet mask! The mask itself was nice and super thick with serum but not in a gross way. The scent was unique and I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was pleasant to say the least. The thing I noticed about this treatment once I took it off was that my chin which is normally a little red looked completely calm and balanced. I'll call this one a winner!
W. Lab Selfie Velvet Lip Tint in Mood Look - Retail Value $15.26 (found here for $10.58)
Wow- this lipstick is truly velvety- just like the name! It's soooo creamy and light- almost like spreading whipped frosting onto your lips. I'm also really into the color and it smells fruity and nice. This luscious lippie is made with shea, mango seed, and avocado butter which may be the secret to the moisturizing softness of it. This one makes my lips really happy.
Commleaf Green Tea Oil Blotting Papers, 50 ct - Retail Value $4.00
This is the second pack of green tea blotting papers I've gotten this month! The brand is different, but the sheets look extremely similar. They're light green with dark speckles and do a great job sopping up the excess oil I put on my face. These will also take care of excess shine throughout the day without destroying your makeup, but I like a dewy look, so these will mainly be used for dialing back my skincare.
Kicho Pack Brush - Listed Value $18.00
I couldn't seem to find this brush on its own online, just accompanying some masks. This "pack brush" is what I've always wanted in a masking brush! I previously had found silicone brushes or just used foundation brushes, but this one is smaller and does a great job getting into the corners of my nose or around my eyes. It's perfect for all the clay masks I love to use. I also used it to apply the CC cream sample and it worked really well. Super useful!
Commleaf Surely Green 100 Face Oil, 1 oz. - Retail Value $35.00
JoahBox had sent a sample of this oil back in March and I was a fan of it then, so I'm happy to see they've included a full-size bottle this month. The box is super cute and I am obsessed with the bottle design! It looks so pretty on my bathroom shelf! The ingredients are all-natural and vegan, and this oil is made without any added colors or fragrances. That makes me feel good about putting it on my skin and I just love the scent which smells like leafy veggies to me! Only a tiny bit is needed to properly hydrate the entire face and it softens my skin without feeling overly oily. I love it!
Verdict: I just love this month's JoahBox! Their curation was stellar and included super useful items that I really enjoyed trying and will continue to use. The oil, brush, and lipstick were probably my faves this month and made the whole box worth it!
