Macy's Beauty Box September 2019 Review
Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included:
No makeup bag this month, but I believe that it will be returning in October!
Now, on to the items!
StriVectin Anti-Wrinkle Wrinkle Recode Serum, 0.25 fl oz - Estimated Value $22.25 (Buy 1 oz for $89.00)
This gel serum feels kind of like a gel primer but also tingles like a lip plumper! It also has a minty scent which added to the plumper feelings. A little goes a long way, especially if you tone beforehand. I am calculating that this is about a week's worth of product, so you can try it out for the full 7 day recommended timeframe. I am on day 4 and though I don't have wrinkles yet, I do have fine lines on my forehead. I have been using this product specifically there, which should also make it last longer. I haven't seen dramatic results but I will say that my forehead looks smoother and softer, and I * think * the lines are less noticeable.
Perricone MD High Potency Classics Face Finishing & Firming Moisturizer, 0.25 fl oz - Estimated Value $6.75 (Buy a full-size 4 fl oz for $108.00)
I really love this brand and I love these little pots that make good skincare on the go easy-peasy! I like to keep these sizes in my purse, carry-on, or weekend kit to make sure I have high-quality creams and serums without having to lug along full-size bottles or tubs. This cream is lightweight and smells like roses. Don't let that light texture fool you though, it packs a lot of moisture for your skin! It can be used both day or night, but for me this is more of a day cream sort of weight and it worked beautifully under my makeup. If you have oilier skin, this will likely be heavy enough for a night cream.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $3.95 (Buy a full size 3.8 oz for $30.00 )
Yaaaaaas, I love a cleansing balm! For best results (IMO) use this on dry skin. You can even apply it way before you plan on washing it off because it will hydrate while it loosens up that dirt and makeup on your face from a long day. I tend to wash this sort of cleanser off in the shower but in a pinch you can also wipe it away with a cloth, making this perfect for those times when you need a reset but might not be able to hop in the shower or dunk your head in the sink. It is also the perfect first step for all my double cleansing friends out there. This generous sample size will last quite a while.
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in 'Fiesty', 1.5 g - Estimated Value $7.77 (Buy a full-size 5.6 g for $29.00)
And the hits just keep on coming! I fell in love with this blush when I received the "paaarty" shade in my 2017 Sephora birthday gift. This reminds me a little of that shade because it is a super natural shade, but this is much more peachy. I find that the color is gorgeous on my complexion, and warm without being orange. I also like that it is more of a matte finish so it doesn't compete with my highlighter. The texture is smooth and it is totally buildable, so go as natural or dramatic as you wish!
Perfect. I am very, very pleased.
NUDESTIX Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in 'Belle', 0.088 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $26.00 (Buy a kit for $26.00)
Ok, another winner. Dang Macy's! I thought this was a mini size pencil but I guess it is technically full size, though when you purchase it, it comes in a tin with a sharpener. This color is beautiful. This is exactly the sort of moody, dirty pink I love in the fall. The finish is also excellent, a true matte, but not dry. I have to admit that I had pretty low expectations because I have yet to find a lip + cheek combo sort of product that I like. I tried it on my cheeks and thought it kind of just fell into my pores, but this is way too pretty to ever use anywhere but my lips anyways!
Swoon.
Brush/Blender
My brush collection has grown by leaps and bounds this year due to my MorpheMe subscription. (I highly recommend!) While I don't generally reach for things like this anymore, I can totally see how this would be great for travel. Those full-length brushes don't always fit inside a makeup bag and I have found that if I force them, the bristles get all distorted. This handy alternative has double ends; one is a foam blender and the other is a fluffy brush perfect for all sorts of powder formulas.
Azzaro Wanted Girl Eau de Parfum Spray, 0.05 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.94 (Buy a full-size 2.7 fl oz for $105.00)
Although I am starting to really love white floral perfumes (what is happening to me?) there wasn't anything super special about this one, at least to my nose. I also found it to be too sugary. The main notes I noticed were caramel, white flowers, and a little spice. It just lacked anything really outstanding to me.
Azzaro Men’s Wanted Eau de Toilette Spray, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.05 (Buy a full-size 3.4 fl oz for $89.00)
Much like its feminine counterpart, this fragrance felt a little nondescript and generic. It actually smelled just like standing near the Macy's cologne counter, where all the scents kind of mix together and create a cloud. Main notes were a little citrus, a little evergreen, some vanilla... there are better ones out there.
Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box was awesome! With a value of around $69.71 (without the blender brush) this is more than worth the $15 subscription cost. I am absolutely LOVING all the skincare that came this month and the makeup shades were absolute perfection. So the perfumes were duds, it's fine. The rest of the box more than made up for it!
