Robb Vices August 2019 Review

Included is a handy booklet with all of our product info. These are always filled with tons of useful info and great images.

Johnny Fly 'Hughes' Sunglasses - Retail Value $185.00

I absolutely love getting sunglasses in boxes, especially expensive ones! These are really unique because they have a frame made of actual wood layered on top of a steel skeleton. They are also polarized, which is great, especially for those drives home with the sun directly in my face. I appreciate that the gold accents are brushed, which makes them less flashy and this finish looks superb with the dark wood grain. They are lightweight but still feel like great quality and they are large enough to look great on my big face! Because these are a classic sort of shape and a nice size, I can't imagine these not looking great on most people.

Here they are on my face. The woodgrain is really noticeable, in a great way.

Runamok Maple Smoked Chili Pepper Infused Maple Syrup, 250 ml - Retail Value $16.95

My first impression of this bottle was how beautiful it was. Made of super heavy glass in a modern shape, it would be a beautiful addition to a bar cart. Aside from adding this to your favorite cocktail for an extra kick, it would be delicious drizzled on fish or sweet potatoes. The scent is over-the-top smoky, while the taste has a nice balance of sweet and spice. Though this would be too spicy for me to personally enjoy on my dinner, I do tend to love a spicy cocktail!

West + Wilder Sparkling White Wine, three 250 ml cans - Estimated Value $17.50 (Buy a 6 pack for $35.00)

Canned wine? Heck yes! This little trio equals out to about a bottle of wine, and the cans and labels are really functional as well as beautiful. I chilled my first can and excitedly popped the tab. I really enjoy sparkling wine (I enjoy sparkling ANYTHING) and we have had a few super hot days here recently. This was a perfect porch sipper to watch the sunset with my husband and pups. It is a very bright tasting wine, and though I wouldn't say it was super dry, it definitely wasn't sweet. It had notes of citrus and flowers and just the right bit to acidity to be dangerously drinkable!

Verdict: This Robb Vices box felt a little light. I happened to adore the sunglasses but if you don't, this box might be a miss for you. The value totals somewhere around $219.45, which is okay for a $129.95 box but not over the top. It might have benefitted from an additional item (or a 6 pack of wine!). I do love the emphasis on small brands and craftsmanship, which was more than apparent in this assortment, but I hope to see more items next month to spread some of that box value around.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Sign up by the 1st of the month to receive that month's box.

ACTIVE DEAL: Save $50 off your first subscription (LUXURY50) or receive a FREE Altec Lansing ALT-500 Bluetooth Turntable valued at $149 (TURNTABLE.)

Value Breakdown: This box costs $144.90 ($129.95 + $14.95 shipping to PA) meaning each of the 3 items has an average cost of $48.30.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am not sure what is going on with this box. It’s so expensive and the products are dwindling every month. I finally cancelled. Three cans of wine and maple syrup? I didn’t even know they were old but that’s ridiculous.

Those glasses are $60 and then you got some maple syrup and sparkling water. You toss my $130 bucks a month, I’ll throw get you that bottle of wine. The finest of the Yellow Tails in a box. With a pretty bow on it :).

I opened the canned wine tonight and was put off by the odor and the flavor was borderline off so I moved on to better beverages for dinner. Upon emptying the cans and moving them to the recycling bin I noticed they had a production date of 072618. The industry standard for canned wine shelf life is a year, so these were 2 months past their end and well past their prime. What a disservice to the producer! Robb Vices, get your act together. Some of us know better than to be excited by these leftovers.

That’s nasty! Shame on you Robb Vices!

I don’t understand why anyone still pays money for this box. Do people really need booze and trinkets that badly?

This just is so not worth it.

I agree, this box felt a little light and is the August box. I thought I had missed a box and contacted Robb Vices and was told August shipping late and September would be at the end of the month of September. Also confirmed with them that going forward boxes will be shipped towards the end of the month. I am grandfathered in and going to try one more year to see if they can get back some of their Wow. In a previous box received Runamok (different flavor) and sunglasses so am missing the interesting, unique items.

In general I think most sub boxes are going downhill I remember the good old days of awesome boxes and major fomo. Sigh…

Isn’t this just a super late August box, I think September still hasn’t shipped yet.

Hey Jax! Let me get that changed. I was confused because they just posted the shipping notice on their Instagram 2 days ago for this one. Thanks for the heads up!

Joy

Yep. This is the August box, not the September box like the review states.

I think I may give up my grandfathered in pricing when it comes time to renew this year. I love the sunglasses, and they were definitely worth what I paid for my box…but I rarely get “wowed” by this box anymore. It would be a great gift for a guy, that is a fact, but I already have a house full of stuff and I am more and more selective of what I bring into my home. Bring back the boxes of items like the Stelle speaker, please? It’s stuff like that that kept me on for another year (two, actually).

I too have the grandfathered-in price and have wanted to cancel many times. Then a Wow box comes along and I back off. I too have a bunch of boxes and have thought of donating them to a charity that does silent auctions. I bet people would be impressed with the presentation at least. Renewal is coming soon. Hmmm

We’ve already cancelled one of our yearly subscriptions to them and will be cancelling the other as well. I’m tired of the random boxes (I can live with that), but mostly I’m tired of their crappy customer service with no updates to subscribers and the replies that they shipping this week when in fact they aren’t shipping for another 3 weeks. The poor customer experience is maddening.

I really love most Robb Vices boxes, this one included, however, I find it better to just buy the boxes once they are a few months old when they go on sale. Last year for Black Friday they had gift cards at a discount. I bought one $150 gift card for $100. I then bought a box when it went on sale along with some other things. I hope they offer the gift cards again.
