Bonjour Jolie October 2019 "Trick or Treat" Review

This month's Bonjour Jolie box theme is "Trick or Treat" and I love all of the cute candy corn pieces on the card and even on our tissue paper. Our information card lists some of our items and their retail values.

Let's start with the goods. All of your menstrual products will come in a discreet bag that usually fits within our theme and in this case, it's these cute ghosts and jack o' lanterns!

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

Seventh Generation Ultra-Thin Overnight Pads (20) - Buy 28 for $7.99

You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile, but keep in mind there might be a delay if you need to switch up your needs each month. The ability to switch it up is what I really like about this box and the fact that you can try new things without committing to an entire box of products. This may be TMI, but I've recently ventured into the ecofriendly world of menstrual cups and since I'm still a bit new, I figured I might need some backups. I'm happy they had a choice that was free from dyes, fragrances, and chlorine.

Summer's Eve Cleansing Cloths in Blissful Escape (2) - Buy a box of 16 for $1.79

They send cleansing cloths like these each month which is nice because I have a great little stash for when I might need them to freshen up.

Advil To-Go Packs (2) – Buy 50 2-packs for $10.99

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

Dirty Little Secret Lip Gloss in Vampy – Retail Value $14

This lip gloss is from a brand I am familiar with thanks to another subscription I review. I love the packaging of this gluten- and cruelty-free gloss and the color "Vampy" is such a perfect one for a Halloween box! It's a little more purple on than it looks in the tube, but it goes on so smoothly and feels fairly moisturizing.

Here it is swatched. It has just a bit of shine to it.

Here it is on. I can get a darker color with a few swipes or really blend it in for a more subtle pop of color. (I feel the need to apologize for the crazed-eyes look. I got distracted and sort of forgot to look at the camera!)

The Bomb Gals Bath Bomb in After Midnight, 4.5 oz - Listed Value $8.00

This bath bomb looks wicked enough for Halloween with its black color tinged with a hint of blue-green. This is actually made with activated charcoal which will help detox your skin and even turn your bath water black! This bomb is cruelty-free and vegan made from plant-based ingredients. The scent is a blend of jasmine, rose petals, lily, and soft musk, and it's a bit strong for me but I'm sure a bath will soften the scent though.

Candy Cauldron

This little cauldron full of candy isn't even listed on the card, but it's a cute little item! It is filled with traditional candy corn, pumpkins, a chocolate ball, and even a few cinnamon candy corns which were a bit surprising to bite into!

Sensible Portions Veggie Chips, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $0.50 (Buy a bag of 12 for $5.99)

These are already a favorite treat around here! These veggie ghosts and bats are crispy with just a hint of salt.

Our edibles all came packaged inside this orange bag.

Mars Chocolate Favorites Minis (8) - Estimated Value $0.48 (Buy a bag of 168 for $9.99)

To satisfy our chocolate cravings they included a handful of these mini chocolates. We received 5 Three Muskateers, 1 Milky Way, 1 Snickers, and 1 Twix. These bite-sized pieces are just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth with none of the guilt! Unless you eat them all at once which I'm likely to do.

Snickers Fun Size, (2) - Estimated Value $0.31 (Buy a 10.89 oz bag for $2.78)

These are always a good one to have stashed around the house. I'll probably pop these in the freezer and eat them frozen when I need a little chocolate fix!

Chex Mix Muddy Buddies Chocolate and Peanut Butter Halloween Snack -  Estimated Value $0.20 (Buy a bag of 25 for $4.98)

These are another favorite treat around here! They have just the right mix of peanut butter, chocolate, and crunchy Chex cereal.

Flipz Minis Milk Chocolate Covered Pretzels, 0. o5 - Estimated Value $0.20 (Buy a bag of 35 for $6.98)

I didn't know they made tiny bags like this! I love chocolate covered pretzels so I might have to pick up some more of these minis to have on hand for when I want just a few since I absolutely cannot control myself with a larger bag of these lying around!

AirHeads Candy (2) - Estimated Value $0.27 (Buy a pack of 60 for $7.98)

If you're like me, you might want something a little fruity to balance out all of that chocolate. I actually really love AirHeads so I was happy to see two of these regular sized strips!

Starburst Original Fun Size (2) - Estimated Value $0.14 (Buy a 10.58 oz for $2.28)

These are another classic treat that I'll gladly take any time. Since I know you're curious about what flavors were hidden inside, I went ahead and unwrapped them to reveal a decent haul. I don't like the orange ones, those always go to my husband or kids, but strawberry is my favorite, so I'd call this a win!

Red Rose Sweet Temptations Teabags (3) - Estimated Value $0.67 (Buy an 18 ct box for $3.99)

Our teas this month are some fun caffeine-free flavors from Red Rose Tea's Sweet Temptations collection. We received one blueberry muffin, a strawberry cheesecake, and a caramel apple pie. These are already sweetened with Stevia and I'm pretty sensitive to it and can only handle a very small amount.

I did try the caramel apple pie for review purposes and indeed it was much too sweet for me. It did have a nice sweet, warm caramel scent and flavor. It was just not for me!

Verdict: Every month I am delighted to see what Bonjour Jolie has in store. They do such fun themes and they curate the boxes so well to fit within that theme. I loved all of the delicious treats they included and I thought the Vampy lip gloss and black bath bomb were fun pampering touches. This is a very rough estimate, but I am estimating the total value to be about $32.14. While this isn't too much over the $24.48/month ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping) box, I still think this is a fun way to get a few things you need each month along with a variety of treats that you might crave at that time!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I am 55 and in menopause, as a person who struggled with extremely heavy and painful periods, I see many traditional items I turned to for comfort in this box. I clicked on your review out of curiosity and kept reading because it was well written.
The lip color looks amazing on you!
Our 10 yo son would LOVE all the candy. Haha.

I can’t take Advil as I have kidney disease and Advil is not advised by my nephrologist. With that being said, however, I’ve not really found OTC painkillers to help my cramps in the first place. It’s a nice thought, but even if I could take the Advil, a couple of packs is not enough. I use tampons. I’ve thought of venturing into the reusable cup, but I’m not there yet. I want to see the value raised a bit, only for the mere fact that much of this box is edibles that I could find on the cheap. There is the convenience factor of it, of course, but even so, just wish there was a bit more there, especially as I wonder if there would be enough products to get through a period.

Such a great review and the lip color looked gorgeous on you.

I’ve tried menstrual cups and could not get a single one to go in. I’m 39, familiar with myself enough for me to try for months and then I allowed myself to give up. I don’t know if I’m unusually shaped (Lol) but I could not get that sucker to go up there no matter what kind of fold or lube I tried. 😂

I’m back to tampons and I’m giving myself a pass on the reusable cup.

(Also, 4 Advil would get me almost nowhere. I need to set a 3 hour alarm for the first 3 days to take Advil or my cramps will put me in bed. I thought the tampons might be making it worse and tried to free bleed for a few months and nope, my cramps were really that bad.)

I’ve learned to take ibuprofen 2-3 days before my period, it blocks the hormone that causes the cramping!

I totally get it! There is definitely a learning curve! Lol. I had success with the Saalt cups from Target. Sorry you get such rough cramps! I used to get bad ones when I was younger and it’s no fun! 😞

I switched to washable pads cause the disposable ones our terrible for the environment.

This is something I’ve considered for sure! I’m slowly phasing our disposable products, but it’s definitely a process!

I do too although more for cost-savings and comfort. I still keep disposables on hand for travel, but I much prefer cloth at home.
