Cocotique "Self-Care Essentials" Review
This month’s Cocotique box features a mix of self-care essentials – some new and some subscriber faves. These pampering self-care products focus specifically on addressing common facial, hair, and skincare concerns.
The back of the Cocotique info card describes all the products included in this month’s box. It also provides information on where to purchase the products online and exclusive discount codes where available.
Curology The Moisturizer, 0.8 oz – Estimated Value $4.99 (Buy as part of a monthly subscription containing a full size 50 ml moisturizer, cleanser, and customized skincare product here for $29.95)
Developed by a team of dermatologists, this moisturizer is a gel-cream hybrid that has active ingredients to hydrate skin and keeps moisture levels balanced. It's buildable and breathable, free of parabens, fragrance, and dye, and is noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought this was a curly hair product! I enjoyed using this product. It's super lightweight and fast-absorbing. It's like it's almost not there. I can see how this would be a great moisturizer for acne-prone skin.
Billion Dollar Brows Gold Infused Illuminator, 0.169 oz – Estimated Value $4.50 (Buy a full-size 0.676 oz here for $18.00)
This gold-infused illuminator, in a shade that looks good on all skin tones, promises to give you a beautiful glow that lasts all day long. The formula is said to be hydrating and easy to blend.
First, I had to Google “what is an illuminator”! I don’t wear makeup daily and barely do a full face. On a date night out, I finally got a chance to use this illuminator and I was impressed at the subtle shimmer. It looks very pretty on my skin tone.
(2) Essenza Aromatherapy Shower Burst Bath Bomb Tablet in Invigorating Grapefruit, 1 oz – Retail Value $2.44 (Buy one tablet here for $1.22)
This effervescent aromatherapy shower tablet promises to fill the air with the delightful aroma of grapefruit essential oil to help you jump start your day.
I received these shower tabs in another box a few months ago and loved them. The grapefruit scent smells so good and it is energizing. The tabs dissolve too quickly. Or, maybe I shower for too long?
Green Goo Aloe Vera Gel Glide Plant-Based Unscented Baking Soda Free Deodorant, 2.25 oz – Retail Value $7.95
This aluminum-free deodorant contains calendula to balance odor, aloe to soothe the skin, and hops to fight off unwanted bacteria. It’s vegan and does not contain petroleum, aluminum, baking soda, gluten, paraben, phthalates, or mineral oil.
I'm impressed by what's not in this deodorant! I tried it on a day when I was working from home to eliminate the risk of it wearing off mid-day. It did well and wasn't irritating to my skin. The next test will be a day out in the hot Atlanta sun and a trip to Zumba class.
Herbacin Hand & Skin Care Gift Set (Red), 20 ml each – Retail Value $15.00
This gift set lets you try the diversity of Herbacin hand cream products. It includes the Kamille intensive moisture and hand creams in original, unscented, wild rose, and lavender. All the creams provide moisture, soothe and nourish skin, are non-greasy and do not contain any mineral oils or parabens.
This hand cream left my hands so moisturized. The cream absorbed quickly and wasn't greasy. The Kamille intensive moisture is the most impressive – my hands were so soft. I also love the smell of the lavender-scented cream.
MasqueBAR Gold Foil Peel-off Mask (2), 0.5 oz each – Retail Value $5.98 (Buy one mask here for $2.99)
This peel-off mask is enriched with fruit extracts to help moisturize and revitalize your skin. To use, apply a thin layer of the mask, leave on for 10-15 minutes until dry, and gently peel off the mask.
I love these types of masks and this specific one has rave reviews. Unfortunately, because it's a peel-off mask, it's not suggested for irritated or sunburned skin which is exactly what I currently have. I can't wait to use it when my skin calms down.
Crack Hair Fix Styling Crème, 0.75 oz – Retail Value $9.00
This hair care product is both a leave-in and a styling cream. It’s perfect for all hair types, is anti-frizz, adds shine, and doubles as a heat protector for thermal styling.
The styling cream didn't add any shine to my hair, but it did reduce the frizz and it left my hair feeling soft. I liked it but not enough to justify the steep price.
Eden BodyWorks Almond Marshmallow Split End Repair Masque, 16 oz – Retail Value $9.25
This repair masque made with sweet almond oil and marshmallow root extract works to transform hair to prevent additional damage. Use weekly to strengthen hair and lessen breakage which leads to fewer split ends.
Cocotique introduced me to Eden BodyWorks products and now I'm a big fan. This masque smells so good. It's great as a quick conditioner but shines when I use it under the steamer. My hair feels so soft and hydrated.
Reshma Beauty Multani Mitti Fuller’s Earth Face Mask, 0.35 oz – Estimated Value $1.33 (Buy a full-size 2.12 oz mask here for $7.99)
Multani Mitti is an all-natural cleaning and clarifying agent made from a rock originating in India. This natural clay mask deep cleans the pores of excess oils and helps lighten pigmentation.
This mask was included in the November 2018 Reshma Beauty takeover box which was my least favorite box of all time. Here’s my take on this mask from that review:
The Fuller's Earth mask may work for those with very oily skin which I do not have. It claims to "lighten pigmentation" and is widely known for and used in skin whitening and bleaching product. And, the mask has a warning to do a patch test first. I will not be putting this product anywhere near my face.
The Verdict: This box was just ok. It has a good variety of self-care products but there's nothing that I'm overly excited about in this month's box. I'm a bit bothered by the Curology moisturizer. It's a deluxe sample but only one of the three products in the set. I like the moisturizer but it's not available to purchase independently without a subscription. Also, the Reshma face mask was described as a ‘subscriber favorite’ but it tops the list of my most disliked products. I do love the Eden BodyWorks masque. It smells so yummy and works wonders on my hair. And, I'll use every drop of the hand cream. These were my two favorite items in this month's box.
This Cocotique beauty box costs $25 with free shipping. I estimate the retail value to be $60.44. This is lower than the last few months and most of the items are not full-size. With an estimated value at 2x the cost of the box, this still makes the box a good value overall.
