Food is the Solution: What to Eat to Save the World by Matthew Prescott - Retail Value $29.99 (found here for $13.50)
The first 1/4 of this book discusses environment issues that are directly affected by the foods we choose to eat. The rest of the book contains 80+ recipes that aim to reduce this harmful imprint by focusing on a more plant-based diet. The whole book is easy to read and has so many beautiful images!
“The way we eat reflects how we are taking care of the planet. This book can guide us towards real change.” ― Alice Waters
In Food Is the Solution, Matthew Prescott, Senior Food Policy Director for the Humane Society and a leader in the environmental food movement, shows how our plates have the power to heal the world. This lavishly designed resource and recipe collection shows how anyone can help solve the world’s major issues―environmental problems chief among them―simply by incorporating more plants into their diets. Featuring investigative reporting, compelling infographics, and essays from notable contributors like Dr. Michael Greger, John Mackey, James Cameron, Paul McCartney, and Wolfgang Puck, Food Is the Solution will inspire us all to put more plants on our plates.
What we eat will determine what kind of world we live in and what kind of world we live on―and Matthew Prescott proves that meat-heavy diets are destroying the planet. Imagine a world in which we are all healthier. Imagine a world where the air is clean, forests dense, water pure, and animal life healthy. That world is a happier world, a better world―and the delectable plant-based foods Prescott shows us how to prepare in Food Is the Solution will help us create it.
Bisou Naturals Air Purifying Bag- Retail Value $24.00 (currently on sale for $19.90)
I live in a REALLY old house with a very creepy basement and full attic. Random odd scents are just a fact of life every once in a while! I plan on hanging this in our basement stairway to purify the corridor which we use multiple times a day to take the dogs outside. I appreciate that the striped fabric adds a little style to such a functional product. The inside is filled with bamboo charcoal that wicks up odors or impurities.
Moon Infusions Calm Moon Drops, 3.1 fl oz – Retail Value $50.00
This is my 4th bottle of Moon Drops in the last year or so, but I use them pretty frequently, so I don't mind! I like adding them to my morning green tea to add to its overall calming properties. I am not sure of how much these drops actually influence my mood, but I have grown to love the green earthy flavor they add to my morning beverage of choice.
Acacia Creations Tea and Coffee Spoons - Estimated Value $8.00 (Buy a set of 4 for $16.00)
I have a serious thing for hand-carved spoons. We have some in my mom's kitchen that belonged to her great grandmother, and we still use them! I love the earthy character they add to my kitchen and the heirloom quality that anything hand-carved embodies. These little ones are perfect for spooning your favorite tea or coffee. I plan on using them with my salt bowls on my holiday tables this year. They arrived in a charming wax print bag for safekeeping and storage.
Sonage Hydrating Mist, 3.4 fl oz - Retail Value $24.00
I love a good face mist and this one has loads of skin-loving ingredients such as ginseng, allantoin, and rose water. It has a delicate rose scent that I really like! My only critique is that the nozzle head could be more of a mister type, as it sprays a lot of this at once in a really strong stream, rather than in a delicate mist. Because of this, I plan on using it before bed, as a step before my serums, instead of as a makeup setting mist.
Earthly Elderberry Elixer, 1 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $11.99
Flu season approaches! Elderberry has been used for a long time to help combat colds and the flu, and adding this supplement to your routine couldn't be easier thanks to these drops. Alone, it is hard to swallow, but a few drops in your favorite tea or coffee add a spicy kick, with notes of cloves and ginger!
The Hippie Homesteader 'Enlighten' Serum, 10 ml - Retail Value $12.00
This blend smells heavenly. I enjoyed this blend of palo santo, bergamot, and frankincense at first sniff and love that is is easy to apply since it is diluted in sweet almond oil. This trio of oils creates a heady, woody scent that is invigorating and really complex and totally smells like something I would wear as a perfume.
The Date Lady Pure Date Syrup, 12 oz - Retail Value $7.99
I am not a huge date fan, but it has a lot more to do with texture than taste! I was excited to give this syrup a try so I added a spoonful to a cup of green tea. It added in a yummy sweetness with an earthy feel, and complemented my tea really well! The booklet also suggests drizzling it on pancakes or adding to smoothies. Sounds like an excuse for pancakes this weekend to me!
Botanical Produce Bag Set - Listed Value $28.00
I have wanted one of these open net style bags for my farmer's market trips for a while now, but never got around to buying one. Though market season is nearly over, it will still be perfect for my Trader Joe's trips! My husband and I live alone, and I never have a truly massive grocery haul, so the petite size suits me just fine, though it stretches WAY more than it looks. For those smaller items, a cream-colored cotton mesh bag was also included and is perfect for items that might otherwise escape through the netting of the larger bag.
The Verdict: This was my first Earthlove box and it was really filled with some cool stuff. It always feels good to get items you love that are also good for the planet! I thought the curation was really well done and I enjoyed how many of the products centered on food and mindful eating, something I know I could improve upon! The rest of the items felt like they lived comfortably in a "self-care" realm, another one of my favorite pastimes. This would be an excellent box for anyone looking to add a little more mindfulness into the items they consume and purchase, and those who really care about products from companies that only want to make the world better.
