Macy's Beauty Box October 2019 Review
Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included:
No makeup bag this month, again, but that seems kind of on theme for a green beauty curation. Instead we received a muslin face cloth I will talk more about below.
Now, on to the items!
Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Serum, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $25.00 (Buy 1.6 oz for $80.00)
As a general rule, I like the Origins brand and I am always happy to see a sample in a subscription. This serum was no exception! Right off the bat I noticed it was highly moisturizing, while still being more of a lightweight gel. It doesn't have those stronger ingredients that give me sun sensitivity, so this is a totally great choice to use as a day serum in my routine.
bareMinerals Mineral Veil Setting Powder, size unknown - Buy a full-size 0.3 oz for $24.00
I use a lot of setting powder so I am always happy to try something new. This was a translucent and very fine powder that did a great job of setting my makeup and giving me just enough of a matte finish on my face. This was a pretty generous sample too, and it is perfect for your on the go makeup bag or purse.
It is truly translucent on my fair skin.
ELEMIS Superfood Facial Wash, 1 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.00 (Buy a full-size 5 fl oz for $25.00 )
I am a double cleanser, which means I go through a ton of facial wash. I am never going to complain about a larger sample from a good brand! This formula has a blend of broccoli seed, avocado and pumpkin oils, as well as a pre-biotic. These are meant to provide skin with a genuine and thorough cleanse without damaging the natural balance of your skin. I found this did leave my face feeling quite clean, but not stripped of moisture. It also has a potent herbal scent that I found invigorating.
PÜR No Filter Blurring Photography Primer, 7 ml - Estimated Value $15.40 (Buy a full-size 15 ml for $33.00)
I had never tried this primer before but I tend to enjoy ones that have a subtle shimmer built in. They are perfect for layering under your foundation for that lit from within look. Though there wasn't enough to see in a photo, this primer has a warm golden pearl finish that would be flattering to all skin tones and gave my face a healthy and natural radiance. I also liked the moisturizing finish which helped my makeup stay put all day and still look pretty fresh when I got home.
Koh Gen Do Pure Cotton Pads, 10 pads - Estimated Value $3.17 (Buy 60 for $19.00)
These chemical-free thick cotton pads put my normal cotton rounds to shame! They feel truly luxurious on my skin and I will admit that I cut them all in half to make them last longer. I have no shame! These worked beautifully with my micellar liquid lotion which I use after washing my face and before any serums or creams at night. These feel like they belong more in a spa than in my bathroom, but I enjoy pretending I am extra fancy as often as I can.
fur Wash Cloth, 1 cloth - Estimated Value $1.22 (Buy 18 for $22.00)
I keep a similar (though admittedly less fancy) sort of wipe packet in my purse as a general rule, because they are great for on the go freshness from head to toe. These are cooler than my usual fare on so many levels. The cloth itself is black and oh-so cool. It is also a lot larger than the ones I generally buy and is 100% biodegradable. It is soaked in essential waters and the signature oil that this company is known for. Not a ton of scent here, but it smells natural, a little herbal, and very clean.
Muslin Face Cloth
This was the item they included this month instead of a bag, and I am 100% fine with that. Muslin is such a skin cleaning powerhouse! It has enough texture to do some exfoliating, but it is very gentle, even on the most finicky skin.
Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box was wonderfully curated around a green theme. The team did a great job! There wasn't much in here for hardcore makeup lovers, but for the skincare obsessed among us, this was a fun adventure. I actually can't decide on a favorite item because they were all quite nice and seemed to really work together well. Value is a little hard to calculate this month since I didn't know the size of the powder and the muslin cloth was not for sale on the Macy's site, but even without these two items you still have an estimated value of almost $50, which is more than respectable for a $15 beauty box.
