Nosejoy October 2019 "Divine Darkness" Review

Nosejoy usually sends a welcome card with a note from the sub's curator, Emily McBride, and an info slip that gives Emily's description of each item in your box. I had a good feeling about October's theme when I saw the black cat on the label! True to form, Emily has curated this month's subscription in a very on-theme—but very tasteful—way...she has chosen "darkness." Spooky, sexy, festive, and so perfect for this time of year!

Natural Inspirations Coconut Ambre Vanille Body & Face Scrub, 6 oz — Retail Value $16.50

I feel like Nosejoy always knows when I'm running low on face wash and sends one just in the knick of time. I would typically prefer to choose my own skincare items, but I always know I'll be sent a clean product in this box, so I'm open to trying new brands from it. This exfoliating scrub is cruelty-free, which is a must for me, and it's also free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic dyes, propylene glycol, EDTAs, PEGs, GMOs. It may have a moody color from the activated charcoal that's mixed throughout, but its scent is light, vanilla-y, and almost fruity, but in a way that I find to be gender neutral.

I first washed my face with this product, and I found the exfoliating bits to be a bit big and intense for my face. So, I brought it into the shower and used it with a wash cloth as body wash, and it was perfect for that!

Wild Yonder Botanicals Bad Moon Rising Bath Soak, 2 oz — Retail Value $5

I love the packaging of this bath soak! This is a handmade product, and I love the description of it on its Etsy page:

"All bath salt soaks are mixture of crystal quartz charged sea salt, epsom salt, bio dynamic honey, organic jojoba and organic essential oils and resins. Hand blended and full of good vibrations."

Its suggested use is as a bath soak, but it can also be used as a scrub. In this current season of life, I am not taking many baths, but I do like the idea of it having a second option so it doesn't go to waste or have to be given away! I just need to find a small jar or container to store it in on my counter before using it as a scrub, since its plastic pouch doesn't re-seal.

Kalastyle Halo Kerti Volcanic Ash Candle, 3 oz — Retail Value $14

I love everything about this candle! I love the neutral color of its glass jar, the small size, the fact that it's handmade using sustainably sourced soybeans. Not to mention the scent! I'm having a hard time figuring out how to describe it—it's almost smoky but without smelling like actual smoke. It just has a smoky vibe, I guess. Very true to the season.

TokyoMilk Dead Sexy Petite Treat Handcreme, 0.5 oz — Retail Value $8

TokyoMilk can do no wrong when it comes to creating amazing scents, so it's no surprise that I love the smell of this lotion. The vanilla is balanced out with more musky tones. I am such a fan of small lotion bottles because lotion isn't something I use every day, so I can throw this guy in any bag and carry it around for just-in-case situations without weighing myself down.

Verdict: I really enjoyed the "darkness" theme of this month's Nosejoy box and thought every item selected for it was the perfect fit. I am really pleased with the scrub and think it's apt—in color, scent, and exfoliating nature—for this season. This month's four items added up to $43.50, which exceeds the box cost of $34.95. I'm happy with this value, and Nosejoy always gets bonus points for supporting small businesses with every single product included.

Intriguing box!

I’m sorry but saving roughly $8 on the retail value of the box just does not cut it for me. Especially with most of the competition having box values easily over $100 for the same or even cheaper monthly fee. Not interested!

The boxes you are comparing with are huge companies that get huge price cuts and donations, that most likely don’t include handmade items. That type of box and this type of box are two different markets, you can’t compare. If you’re looking for a high value, this isn’t the box for you, if you are looking for amazing themes and curation every month, this box is a winner. I’ve been getting it longer than any other box and love it every month.

I agree! Comparing this box to others is like apples to oranges. The point of this box isn’t the retail value vs. box price, I think of this as more of a “discovery” box. A way to sample new/indie vendors even if it’s at full price. For instance, I am going to buy some of that bath soak from the Etsy shop it came from because I am ALWAYS on the hunt for new bath products and boxes like these are a great way to find quality wares without having to search through a sea of vendors online. Love it!! The theme this month was spot on and well executed in my opinion.
