Allure Beauty Box November 2019 Review
A handy booklet has all the product info inside.
Tarte Color Splash Lipstick in 'High Dive', 0.12 oz - Full Size! Retail Value $21.00 (shades will vary)
Will there ever be a day when I don't get really excited about a full-size tube of lipstick? Probably not. This color is insane! I am over the moon with it. The deep red-berry shade is fall perfection, and, frankly, makes me feel like a total badass. This lippy has a nice sheen and is very buildable, so you can do a sheer look with one swipe, or go full-on drama with more.
I am obsessed.
belif Hungarian Water Essence, 10 ml - Estimated Value $5.60 (Buy 75 ml for $42.00)
Essences are often liquid and feel like water, so I was curious when this felt more like a serum. This makes it so much easier to apply! I like to use a step like this after a toner but before a serum. It adds extra moisture to my skin and helps cut down on expensive serum usage since it helps it spread and absorb better. My skin felt really cooled down after applying this. It was a nice sensation! I also tried this on my dry sleepy face in the morning and liked the instant life that it added.
Raeka Illuminating Turmeric Polish, 15 ml - Estimated Value $4.80 (Buy 100 ml for $32.00)
Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory ingredient, so if you have issues with redness (I do!) it is a great addition to your routine. It also contains crushed walnut shells and reminded me more than a little of St. Ives. I find abrasives like this to be a little hard to my skin, and prefer smaller particulates. Will loves super scrubby scrubs though, so this will go to him.
Curology Cleanser, 15 ml and Curology Trial Offer (up to $19.95 value)
I am a Curology enthusiast, though I prefer their custom formula more than the cleanser or moisturizers. This box arrived with a sample of the cleanser and a link to get a free Curology trial, something I HIGHLY recommend. Basically, you sign up, fill out a questionnaire regarding your skin and skin concerns, submit photos of your face, and an actual dermatologist looks them over and builds a custom formula for you. It arrives monthly or bi-monthly, according to your schedule. This has been much cheaper than seeing a local dermatologist to get my hands on the RX strength anti-aging superhero that is tretinoin. I also love that there are monthly check-ins so my doctor can adjust my formula as needed.
e.l.f. Gentle Peeling Exfoliant, 90 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $10.00
Hmm. At the risk of coming off snobby (I promise this is not my intention!) I don't love seeing the e.l.f. brand in this box. This is half because I associate this sub with higher-end brands, and the rest is that if I wanted to try out this product, I could easily go buy myself the full size for $10. It isn't a high-risk expense that a skincare item with a $60-90 price tag would be. That is the kind of stuff I (personally) enjoy most in subscription boxes. Ok, all those feelings aside, this exfoliant was fine. It is one of those peeling types that pills up. I am skeptical of these because you can test them on any surface and if you rub the cream will pill. I am sure when used on skin it does grab up some dead skin and dirt and grime, I am just not convinced it is better than a traditional exfoliant. It had a nice scent and contained fruit extracts as well.
Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $63.40, which is a nice value for a $15 box. I decided to leave the Curology trial value out of this calculation since you might not use it if you aren't interested or already subscribe, but if you partake (and you should!), it does add about $20 to your value total. I thought this was a good box, even if I didn't love everything. The cloud cream and lipstick were certainly the standouts for me. Together, they account for $43 of the boxes value and alone I would have paid $15 for them both, so I already felt the box was a win, 2 items in. I also really liked the belif essence. The e.l.f. exfoliator was not something I enjoyed, but I always appreciate full-size items, and this month had 2, which is awesome for such an inexpensive box.
