Gaiam is a yoga, fitness, and lifestyle company that produces a wide range of products. They recently offered a fall mystery box, and since I have been looking for a new yoga mat I jumped all over this.

This is a review of Gaiam Fall Mystery Box, which has sold out.

Gaiam Fall Mystery Box October 2019 Review

Block & Strap Combo 2-Pack - Retail Value $16.98

I have had my own yoga mat for a while, but blocks and straps are items I always would borrow once I got to the studio. Not anymore! The blocks measure in at 4”D x 6”H x 9”W and are slightly thicker than the blocks I would borrow (not enough to make a noticeable difference to me), and the strap comes in at 8 feet long. Both blocks and straps can be used to safely deepen your stretch, especially in positions where your hands can't reach the floor but you need to support yourself in your pose.

Restore Mini On-The-Go Massager - Retail Value $9.98

Massagers like these are one of those products I never think I need until I have particularly sore legs or a cramp I can't stretch out. Into the gym bag this goes, so I always know where to find it when the need arises. The peanut shape makes it perfect for massaging both along the spine or sore feet, and the end cap acts as a deep tissue release tool.

Restore Mini Band Kit - Retail Value $9.98

While I have seen resistance bands like this before, I don't actually know how to utilize these three bands of various resistance. Luckily, these bands (along with all of the other products in this kit) actually come with a downloadable exercise guide to help you with both stretching and strength training.

Performance Cork 5mm Yoga Mat - Retail Value $39.98

My current yoga mat is a Gaiam, but it is thick and squishy and my toes and hands like to slip when I am sweating holding poses (but it is great for support!). While I wasn't familiar with cork as a material for a yoga mat, this performance cork is antimicrobial and lightweight while still providing a moderate cushion. I probably would be a bit uncomfortable if I took a class that focused on being on my knees for large part of the class, but other than that this had the right amount cushion for a variety of poses and had great grip- my fingers and toes did not slip a single time during class while trying this bad boy out. My instructor is also a friend, and she seemed impressed by both the quality of my mat and how lightweight it is to carry.

Metro Gym Bag - Retail Value $24.98

I try to go to yoga at least twice per week, and I usually just leave my yoga mat in my truck and carry it with me into the UREC. This gym bag excited me, because the bottom of it has straps to hold my yoga mat, as well as room inside for various exercise essentials *or* all of my new yoga goodies. This bag is on the smaller end, so I really could only fit one yoga block comfortably in it with a few other things like a change of clothes. It features magnetic closure pockets on the outside, as well as a water bottle holder and an inner zip pouch on the inside.

Here it is full of all of my new yoga supplies with my mat securely attached!

The Verdict: I love going to yoga, and receiving this box kicked me back to the gym after taking a two-week break due to life getting in the way. This box really covers all of the basics you could need or want to practice yoga, making this great for beginners or those who just like having a variety of tools at their disposal. I saw comments on this post asking if the value is worth the cost, and while the actual value of this box is $101.87, your personal value will come from if you already own these yoga tools. If you don't, or are in need of a new mat, I say absolutely. If you're happy with your yoga mat, you probably will want to sit this one out.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box has sold out, but stay tuned for the winter mystery box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 with free shipping after using the code OCTOBERBOX, which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Block and strap combo: $8.33
  • Mini massager: $4.89
  • Mini resistance bands: $4.89
  • Cork mat: $19.60
  • Gym bag: $12.23

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I thought it was a good deal. The mat is great quality and I love the bag. I found the straps for holding the mat didn’t work when I walked any distance. I’m thinking of cutting them off and using the bag to carry things to work. It’s an excellent quality bag. The blocks and strap are good quality as well. To future me i wouldn’t buy this again I don’t need that many props.
