GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually a deluxe size or full-size, and the value is usually good too.

GlossyBox November 2019 Review

No info fold-out this month, but a couple of promos:

One was for Naked Wines. Curious about this wine club? I have all the deets for you!

The other was for Hello Fresh. Marne tackled everything you need to know about this popular meal kit in her all-encompassing Hello Fresh review.

Lord & Berry Maximatte Lip Crayon in 'Intimacy', 1.8 g - Retail Value $18.00

I am not generally a huge Lord & Berry fan but these lip crayons are the exception. They are always in such pretty colors and I love the matte formula that isn't too dry. They remind me of giant lipliners in terms of staying power. This beautiful rose pink is right in line with lip shades I love to wear and it is beautiful alone or with gloss on top.

This is my type of color.

STYLondon Hypnotic Eyes Palette - Retail Value $12.88 (£9.99)

This palette had SO much more pigment than I was expecting! The shades are buttery smooth and so pretty. It actually reminds me of some sort of Huda palette, but with a lower price tag and arguably dull packaging. It is worth mentioning that the mattes work so beautifully with a brush, while I would stick to your fingertips for the metallics. They seemed to be a little more work to pick up with bristles.

All the shades are super cohesive together.

Ardell Wispies Mascara, 15 g - Full Size! Retail Value $8.99 (currently on sale for $6.29)

I made a little bit of a face when I first opened this mascara because the wand was kind of a clumpy mess. This is a fiber mascara though, so I think a little bit if that is to be expected. I didn't notice too much of a difference in my lashes though, aside from them looking darker. The fibers seemed really inconsistent when it came to latching on to my lashes.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peel, 30 ml - Retail Value $30.00 (Buy a full-size 50 ml for $48.00)

The value calculation for this item was a little confusing as I couldn't find this size for sale online but the tube itself states MSRP: $30. The calculated value I got was $28.80, which was close enough to $30 that I feel comfortable giving it that MSRP. This is one of those peel types of treatments and I just don't think they do much for my skin. The idea here is that it is a protein peel, meaning it latches on to dead skin cells and buffs them off of your skin, as a much gentler exfoliation type than other acid or texture-based scrubs and peels. People either love or hate these and I legitimately don't think they do much, at least not on my face, though I use a wide range of decently harsh products so maybe this is too gentle?

Novex Mystic Black Deep Hair Mask, 100 g - Estimated Value $2.00 (Buy a full-size 400 g for $7.99)

I am not crazy about the scent of this mask. It is a clean and sharp scent that really goes right up my nose. The tub arrived about 2/3rds full which isn't super uncommon for products measured by weight. It is a heavy white cream that coats loads of hair easily. My hair is really thick and I didn't need a lot of this stuff to get coverage. It gave my hair a little too much of that slick feeling, but I did sleep on it wet instead of blowdrying.

Verdict: GlossyBox has a value of around $71.87 which is good for a $21 box. There wasn't really anything outstanding this month, though I do adore that lip crayon! I was less enthusiastic about the hair mask, peel, and mascara. The eyeshadow palette was really impressive in terms of pigment and I loved the brown shades. All in all, this was a mixed bag for me but I have higher hopes for next month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! If you sign up in the month of November, this should be your first box!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I was not excited about the contents of this box. I forgot how much I’ve enjoyed samples of real chemistry and this is a great size! The rest is just really usable, if not exciting. So, it’s not a horrible box.

I totally agree with you. I loved the crayon this month.

At first I was disappointed by the contents, but I looked in to the peel and found it interesting. I am using it under my eyes at night to see if it really does eliminate dark circles, it is a 2-3 week experiment. I don’t expect it to be effective as my under eye circles are mainly due to sinus problems, but I can wish! I found it on Real Chemistry’s website for $30 so this is the price and does not need to be calculated. I am also going to try the hair mask. The other products go up for swap.
As I do not pay full price, it’s about $13 per box, I think it is fine for me. I get to try a new peel and hair mask.
I hope the posting of the flier online is not a new practice as I prefer the paper version. Added to the value is the box!

I just want the box. Not interested in any of the items.

I have received the exact same box, and the only thing I’m going to be using is that hair mask for my daughter. Everything else will be given away. I bought the three month subscription because I like the boxes themselves. They’re so beautiful in November and December.

My subscription expired this month and I don’t miss it at all. The boxes had been going downhill but this box is really terrible. Not a single item that I have even the slightest interest in owning or even trying. If they are going to include a mascara, why include one that isn’t even as good as Maybelline?

I did like how the reviewer struggled not to say another that could be construed as negative. After approximately four consecutive months of lousy boxes, I doubt that anything will be changing.

I was disappointed in this box at first, but it’s growing on me. The only thing I truly don’t want is the lip pencil. I’m probably the only person on earth who liked the mascara – but that’s because I have really long eyelashes to begin with and it’s nice to just have them stand out a little more.

Hi Danielle,
I have a similar sentiment. I was originally pretty disappointed in the box, but when I really dug into the products, I actually like them and will probably keep them instead of trying to swap. I had absolutely zero interest in the lip pencil until I saw Megan’s review. That actually is a pretty color, but I am a lippie addict, so I pretty much have every color imaginable already, so I’m not sure if that will be a “Keep,” a “swap”, or a “gift.”

The items this month weren’t large, so it did make the box seem kind of empty when I opened it, but what matters is the value of the items, not the size.

Danielle

Sorry, meant to reply to the post instead of your comment.

The palette is pretty but almost everyone I have seen online (as well as my own box) had one or two of the pans broken, leaving quite a mess in the box, which was hastily thrown together. Glossybox has some great stuff but needs to be a little more careful with their assembly and packaging

danielle

mine wasn’t broken, for what it’s worth!

Mine wasnt broken either thank goodness BUT the whole pan was kinda out of its container but the lid obviously being closed held it in place. They neglected to glue the pan into the holder case. Grateful mine didnt break and sorry to those who recueved their broke.

Do not miss my subscript to Glossy at all, except, for their beautiful boxes!

I guess I’m in the minority, because this looks like a good box to me! Especially the Real Chemistry peel. (Though, okay, it’s hard to get excited about mascara, I must have 20 from past subs!)

Same! I did an annual sub last year that worked out to like $12 a box. I might do that again this year if the better than Black Friday deal is good.

At $21, this is a hard pass. At $12, maybe, including being able to reuse the boxes as gift boxes for presents which honestly is an added value to me.

That’s exactly what I do. My husband usually buys me a one year subscription, either on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. The 25% or 30% discount really adds up and makes the value of the boxes, much higher.

I know!!! I just want the box!!!
