Macy's Beauty Box November 2019 Review

Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included:

A makeup bag was not included again this month.

Now, on to the items!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in 'Crush', 2.3 g - Estimated Value $14.38 (Buy 3.2 g for $20.00)

Ahh, I have such a mixed relationship with this lipstick. I know it has a huge cult following, but the reasons so many people love it are the same as why I don't, namely the longevity. This stuff dries down and is nearly impossible to remove without an oil-based cleanser. It is nearly transfer-proof and very, very matte. And if you like that, great! You are going to love this product! I don't enjoy a true matte because of that dryness. I prefer a little moisture, even on my matte formulas. I also dislike removing these types of lipsticks because it is a lot of work. I did love this beautiful petal pink shade enough to try layering it with a gloss, just to make it more of a satin, but even that wasn't enough to convince me. Luckily, Marne absolutely LOVES matte formulas like this and this pink is nude enough for her to like. I am happy to pass it along.

I really loved this shade, alas, not the formula.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, 0.13 oz - Estimated Value $12.04 (Buy a full-size 0.27 oz for $25.00)

Well, this is quite a lofty claim for any beauty product, much less a mascara. I also find this a funny way to rate beauty products in general but I am amused by it nonetheless. This mascara has an hourglass-shaped wand, which isn't my personal favorite, but it gets the job done. I rather liked this formula with one coat, as it added significant length to my lashes and enough volume. I decided to stop at one coat though because I could see this stuff becoming clumpy with multiple applications, which I try to avoid. Luckily, one coat was enough drama for me and gave me that wispy look I love!

Kiehl's Since 1851 Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream, 7 ml - Estimated Value $6.16 (Buy a full-size 100 ml for $88.00 )

I am surprised to report that Will sampled this before I did because he "thought it looked cool." I mean, ok? He liked the lightweight texture and how it absorbed without a lot of work and left his skin feeling hydrated. He also mentioned that is has a "lemon cake" scent, something I would actually agree with. For me, I didn't think I would like this as much because it just felt SO light going on. I am pleased to relay that it actually delivered a lot more hydration than the light texture would suggest, and I found the calendula helped a little with the chronic winter redness that appears on my skin as soon as the temp drops below 45 degrees.

My Clarins Re-Charge Relaxing Sleep Mask, 0.1 oz - Estimated Value $1.59 (Buy a full-size 1.7 oz for $27.00)

This sleep mask was a little thinner than I personally like for sleep masks, but as a day cream worked really well! It is cooling, super hydrating, and absorbs like a dream. I also love that it is no-rinse, because I don't have the time! It is worth mentioning that it seems highly fragranced to me, with a clean, herbal scent. I personally like fragrances in my products but even I will admit that this one is super strong.

Peter Thomas Roth Instant FIRMx Eye, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $19.00 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $38.00)

This product was an experience! I actually had Savannah try it too, to make sure I was getting the whole picture. It is true that neither of us suffers from undereye wrinkles or drooping skin (praise be!) so we might not have been the best to experiment. We both have extremely similar thoughts on this. First, you take a small amount and smooth it under your eyes. You then let it dry and wipe off any access (if needed) after about 7 minutes. We both felt a distinct under-eye tightening and at least for me, the skin did look smoother as if put under a filter. You can apply your regular makeup over top of this stuff. I can imagine if you have fine lines and smaller wrinkles this stuff will be a godsend, and the price is more than reasonable. The downside is that it does feel a little like glue, or that you have a wafer stuck to your skin. That texture does make a perfect primed base for concealer though!

Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris Eau de Parfum Spray, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.65 (Buy a full-size for 3 fl oz $124.00)

I didn't love this perfume, but I don't generally gravitate towards YSL fragrances (with Black Opium being the exception) and this was far too filled with overly sweet berries for my nose. It does have an undercurrent of musk and patchouli, but the overly sweet fruit kind of ruin this one for me.

Yves Saint Laurent Men's Y Eau de Parfum, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.45 (Buy a full-size for 3.3 fl oz $120.00)

This scent is ALMOST there for me. I would actually see myself wearing this men's scent before the fruity sample above. It is very clean and almost peppery, with a ginger zing that I actually quite liked. It also has some juniper and herbs, and a base of strong woods. I think I needed a little more note definition in this one because they all blended together into one big pile, and I really like a little pacing in a scent. But if my husband brought this home to wear I wouldn't be mad at all. And I would likely wear it too.

Crystal Compact

Macy's has been sending non-bag items for a few months now and I kind of love it. I have plenty of bags!! This compact is so much nicer in person than I expected. It is downright heavy, and the locking mechanism is one of those super secure push buttons.

Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box was a good one in my book! With an estimated value of $56.27, it was a good value for a $15 box. Additionally, the compact adds even more value, though I could not price it. My favorite items this month would be the mascara and the Kiehl's cream. I really love both of those products! The lippy will go to Marne, but I do think if you love mattes, most people out there will find this a highlight of the box this month. The eye cream will go to my mom, who is obsessed with undereye smoothers. I am curious to know her thoughts! The perfumes were hit or miss, but you know I love sniffing new scents regardless of if I love them or not. The sleep mask was another nice addition that works beautifully during the day for me. All in all, this month delivered a bunch of new products for me to try, and a new favorite or two!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone else besides me NOT receive the product info pamphlet that has the coupon inside? I love the Macy’s box and have been subscribing since day 1 and I can honestly say that this is the first time anything odd like that happened.

I wish they would include a bag once in a while. They always had cute ones..like the lip shaped one, and the bright glow in the dark blue and yellow one…..

I dont like the lip , it’s too light, and the formula is so bad that it cracks and dries down in every line in my lips. I just dont like it.

Love, love love the 2 perfume samples. I’m a perfume junkie and since sephora play stopped that every month I cancelled after 6 years with them.

The eye cream, I used once and threw away. It had an odd texture and felt funny. Wasnt a fan of it.

The water cream I dont feel like gives me enough moisture, but it doesn’t pill up with layering it, so that’s a plus.

The mirror is heavy and nice to throw in a purse to check to make sure things are in place. Lol. Like that its something unexpected and very nice.

I dont have a Macy store near me, so I haven’t been using my 5 dollar cards now, and especially since they moved shipping up to 10.50, I just unfortunately look elsewhere.

All in all, this is always a solid box since I’ve been getting it for a few years since it started back up.

Off topic but I hope they include TonyMoly on one of the months. Bought a few from Ulta and used my $5 off at Macys just now.

They included TonyMoly a couple of months back, I think it was August or September. It was a cherry lip gloss in a cherry shaped container that both smelled and looked amazing!

This was my first Macy’s box and I enjoyed everything in it, including the perfume and lipstick. I usually don’t like perfume and the lipstick color is a little light for me, but I am enjoying the formula and staying power. I used my coupon on some face masks. Nice well rounded box!

Maybe she loves this one. Well made and so on. Stating my thoughts obviously! 🙂

This is my second box and I don’t know why I get so excited for anything from Macys.I love that they ship out before most boxes. They also charge me at the end of the month. I don’t know if I am happy about the no more bags but if they are gonna stop then just keep people in the loop. I have to many bags anyways but still on fence. Well rounded box.

I loved this box! They really do a wonderful job curating the boxes each month. I have enough bags so no disappointments. The Anastasia lip stick was too light for me but no big deal. Can’t wait to see what’s in December’s box.

I love that they give a product instead of a bag some months as I also have plenty of bags. That compact is gorgeous! I use the travel satchel from a couple of months back everyday. I put my daily go to’s in it and it makes it much easier to get going in the morning.
I did not like the PTR eye cream. At first I thought it was awesome, it did correct my under eye issues. But when I put my makeup on it was a flaky mess. I’ll follow your directions and wipe it down before applying makeup and see if that works. Otherwise, I’ll stick with my HG, Dr. Brandt.

I like this box and the compact makes it for me. I wish I had 3 more compacts for my most used purses and bags. But I just use a make up bag filled with essentials and switch it out based on which purse or bag I use daily.

Not to state the obvious or anything, but you can just buy compacts. That’s an easy wish to grant! There are really pretty ones available at Harmon Discount Beauty (often a department in Bed, Bath and Beyond). Pretty sure Walmart and CVS have them too. Or maybe someone will give you a couple for the holidays.

But if it’s not from a sub it doesn’t exist, though?
