MAISON DU SOIR Floral Robe – Retail Value $150.00

This is a robe (with tie belt) that can be worn as sleepwear or as clothing. It's a very lightweight fabric (Crepe De Chine), so it's easy to layer without adding bulk to a look. Personally, I love it as my new winter robe. It feels like such a luxe upgrade!  (But who knows, I may still try wearing it out of the house! If you have any styling tips, please let me know!)

Here's the size guide from Box of Style:

  • S/M (fits sizes 0-8)
  • L/XL (fits sizes 10-24)

I'm generally a size 6, and I'm wearing a S/M here.

(I think this is a great piece for holiday travel, too. It's lightweight and will take up very little space in your luggage.)

AF BY ANDREA FOHRMAN Diamond Pendant – Retail Value Listed $200.00

This is the most delicate of necklaces - and I love it! I've come to expect a sparkly piece of jewelry from Rachel Zoe in the Winter Box, and I'll always be happy with a sparkle in the form of diamonds!

This necklace measures 16" with a 2" extender. The metal is gold plated sterling silver and the tiny pendant circle is made with genuine diamonds!

ETHICS SUPPLY CO. Starry Night Candle – Retail Value $38.00

This candle is fantastic! I love the matte black glass vessel and I appreciate that it is ingredient-conscious. (The wax is a natural coconut-apricot wax blend, and the fragrance is phthalate-free.) It is 10 ounces with a burn time of 55+ hours.

The scent is described as:

This lush scent is reminiscent of cold night air pierced with hushed sacred notes of ancient bristlecone pine resting softly under a Milky Way bannered star-filled night as the scented shadow of Great Basin's majestic Wheeler Peak's cold quartzite gives way to the warmth of rich musk & amber while a duet of patchouli & sandalwood enhance the evening's precious blackness.

I was expecting a wintry scent from that description, but I found it to be similar to the Bobbi Brown Beach fragrance - which I absolutely love! But just a heads up, this scent smells like summer - to me at least!

RACHEL ZOE X LORAC Hollywood Glamour Mini Palette in Gold or Silver – Retail Value $15.00

(Subscribers get to pick the palette color.)

More holiday sparkle! These baby palettes are stunning! The silver palette is all shimmers and glitters, and the gold palette includes two mattes in addition to the shimmers/glitters. The pigment is fantastic, too. I would recommend using a glitter primer for the sparkly shades though - otherwise there will be some fall out. (Oh, and these palettes contain 100% certified authentic diamonds for brilliant shine!)

ESTÉE LAUDER Revitalizing Supreme+ Global Anti Aging Crème – Retail Value $55.00

This skin cream is formulated with Moringa Extract, and designed to amplify collagen and elastin. It should make skin feel firmer and more hydrated, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. I've been using it for a few days so far, and it is a decadent cream. It's so hydrating, but still absorbs quickly enough that I can use it as a day cream, before makeup, too. I need a rich cream in the winter (and a humidifier almost always running), because my skin gets so dry. So far, this has kept my skin hydrated - I'm a fan!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of $458. I think that's great for $99.99! This is exactly what I expect from Rachel Zoe and her team in a holiday box - sparkle and luxe vibes. I think this box also achieves the subscription box gold star for me: items feel both practical AND special. (And since I don't often wear sparkly eye makeup, the mini palette size is perfect.)

I really like the Maison Du Soir robe- very pretty! The s/m fit perfectly ( size 8, 5’7″). For me it’s an indoor robe. The warm tone Lorac palette is beautiful-very flattering and wearable. I loved the musky sandlewood smell of the candle. The necklace is comically tiny-I was afraid I would break it and my boyfriend ( who should get reading glasses ) could barely see it! I think it will look nice as a low key daily wear piece though. Have not tried the cream yet. Good box!

Gigifabulous

This box was just okay. I was shocked at the size of the necklace. Dinky doesn’t even describe it. You can honestly barely see this little speck at all. The cool eye shadows are almost identical to a Huda palette I received in my Ipsy plus subscription this summer. I like Estee Lauder products, but some of the skin care has caused allergic reactions with me, so I will see. The candle smells clean, like soap. I don’t know what it will smell like when lit. The robe I may sell. I loved the Fall box. This one, not so much.

Not gonna lie, so far I’ve had 2 duds from the box. The necklace broke when I put it on, and I was being careful! The eyeshadow palette was not good. I played around with it and it just didnt work on me. Hardly any color payoff for some of them. And you definitely need glitter glue with the gold sparkle shadow. I made a hot mess to the point that I had to just wipe all of my eye makeup off and start over using different shades.
Love the candle and robe though!

My necklace broke and I contacted customer support and they are sending a replacement (I just had to send a photo of the broken necklace). I was actually surprised since I knew BoS doesn’t have a reputation for great CS. I’m glad because I love the necklace (it being dainty is a plus for me).

Sara

My diamond pendant was missing from my box. I emailed CS over a week ago and have not gotten a response. Very disappointing.

Mine broke as I was putting it on and I haven’t heard back from them.

I love the new picture scroll thru but miss the value breakdown. Also love seeing the item swatched or on the glass is great. A picture of ingredients would be greatly appricated.
Alot of times when I am reading a review and someone states they loved a make up product I always wonder why they didnt post a picture wearing it. Eyeshadow and lipstick are the two that I am always googling for to see on different skin tones. Most of the bloggers do post pictures.
I check MSA everyday & yes the addiction is real 🙂

I wear a 10-12 and chose the L/XL robe. I had enough room to wrap it a bit like a robe so the size was perfect. I don’t think it would fit someone who’s a 16+ as a robe. I’d definitely want it to fit as a robe as it’s not something I could wear as outerwear. Hopefully this helps someone with sizing.

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

I was about to post how nice that BoS finally got the memo that sizing doesn’t stop at 14. The fact that the clothing didn’t accommodate my shoulders plus the teeny tiny jewelry were the reasons I cancelled. I felt this sub was more for far more delicately built people than me. Looks like the only thing that’s changed here is the label for the sizing, not the actual sizing inclusivity. It’s a lovely box, but it’s meant for people actually built more like Rachel Zoe, at least the wearables.

I got my box and I really like it all except for the robe.

I love the rest of the box though!

I didn’t love box of style the first time around. Customer Service issues drove me away. Poor communication and not getting the choice items I picked. I came back a year ago and subscribed starting with the Spring Box 2019. I have been very happy. No customer service issues and boxes arriving on time. I love the goodies inside and find that I use many of them over and over. I might be able to purchase similar items for less than the box, but I love experimenting with new beauty products and the jewelry, though not precious, is fun and usable. I find that I love a few items from each box and typically like the rest. I plan to renew my annual subscription.

HUGE shout to Liz, who helps put these deals together for us EVERY year! thank you + happy thanksgiving!

Regarding the robe, I got my box yesterday and was concerned because based on the size guidelines I had ordered a L/XL (I wear a size 10/12), but I received a S/M instead. I’m actually glad for the mixup because the S/M robe fits great. Unless you like a really roomy fit, I’m pretty sure the L/XL would have been too big for my size range.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

I’m also a 10/12 and got the L/XL and it’s pretty big on me. My only complaint about the entire box is that they didn’t offer the robe in three sizes. The robe would be absolutely perfect if there had been a M/L option. But for $55 with the BTBF deal, the box was a huge win for me.

I received my box today and the Robe feels like such cheap polyester! The necklace looks really cheap too. I was really looking forward to this box, but I am so disappointed with it. This is the last box of my annual subscription and I am definitely going to cancel. This is the worst BOS that I have received. So sad as it had so much potential.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

I KNEW that ‘robe’ was going to be a cheap feeling fabric! I’m very tactile and I can smell poor quality miles away.

As soon as I saw it I thought it was a very pretty version of a duster/swimsuit coverup that I could get at Ross. I would have paid $45 for it. If I pay $150 for a cover up I’d want better material. For what I actually paid, box price, I like it.

Cynm

Can I cancel after I get this box or does it start a subscription?

Reply ButtonReply

pb

you can cancel online

Kristy

Received my box today and I’m missing the diamond pendant necklace. 🙁

Elena

I wear an 8/10. Any suggestions for which robe size I should get…?

Reply ButtonReply

Hallie Gottlieb

If you want a flowy 70s vibe I’d get the larger one. If you want a more straight fit I’d get the small. I wear a 16 and cannot wear the robe as a robe but it looks great as a duster. A size 22 put it on and the shoulders fit great. A size 4 put it on and said she felt like stevie nicks. She may steal it from me lol

Elizabeth Inman

I wear a size 16, 5’7” and the robe wraps around generously on me 🧐

Tracy

I have so many eyeshadow palettes, I wouldn’t buy this box because this one would surely go to waste. However, if I were in the market for one, this RZ x Lorac mini palette does look absolutely stunning. The pigmentation is maybe the best I’ve seen reviewed on this website. Very impressive.

Estee Lauder tests their products on innocent animals.

Reply ButtonReply

Jenn

Yes–I have heard they do test–but remember they own Glamglow, Smashbox, Too faced, La mer, Rodin, Clinique, Origins, MAC, Tom Ford makeup, Dr. Jart etc, etc. My other comment didn’t show up…but my point is-it is fine to not want to support EL–but anytime you buy from any of these brands–know you are supporting them. It is hard in the beauty industry–there are about 7 major companies–but if you don’t cut out the above companies AND Becca, Bobbi Brown, Kors beauty, Aveda and Bumble and Bumble–well then you still support Estee Lauder.

Marissa

Its lorac not estee lauder. Lorac is 100% cruelty free.

Lily

Liz Cadman- Your review pushed me over the line from ” Don’t need” to ” Ooh, that’s so pretty and I’d wear/ use it”. 😉

I ordered the silver eye shadows because I look better in cool tones, I think.. It’s subjective..

IMO, I definitely think this robe looks like an at home, sleepwear robe. Dior, Natori and others used this type of print years ago on 100% Polyester and the robes were $200 and way up from there, so I have NO issues with the robe as an at- home piece.

I definitely will use the night cream, eye shadow and will likely wear the necklace once I see the diamonds. If cloudy, probably not.. I would gift the necklace but agree that they make the presentation boxes really tacky. ( Someone said it below, not in the review).

I have become extremely wary of using any candles because of recent reports about the heavy metals and other ” debris” they put into the air and we inhale. I have healthy lungs, and want to keep them. 🙂

Thanks for a great review. You did a great job and I miss your reviews. 🙂

That shadow looks so chunky weird to me. I’m still shocked that they put an RV of $200 on that necklace, it’s literally on a cardboard thing with Made In China on the back. It’s still cute, but it’s like $20 cute, not $200 cute.

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy

Agreed. For $200, I’d expect my jewelry to not tarnish.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy

I came here to say the exact same thing about the necklace packaging. It honestly looks like something I’d buy at Claire’s for my 12-year-old daughter. Wow.

Reply ButtonReply

Crystal

If I ever saw a believable RV on a piece of subscription box jewelry I’d think I’d fallen into an alternate universe.

Reply ButtonReply

Stephanie

Exactly! All these sub boxes have jewelry manufactured straight from China. The ‘silver’ or ‘gold’ rubs off shortly after you wear it. It’s all junk jewelry and belongs at Claire’s. And this brand, has a website that was recently created which tells you it’s just used for show/marketing.

Ingermaria

Great box, so excited to get mine! This will be my second box from them. The only thing I’m gifting will be the cream, it will go to my lovely mother, and she will love it.

Reply ButtonReply

Tracy

I have so many things I’m gifting this season from sub boxes that I almost don’t have to go shopping. The kids are the reason I still have work to do, but that’s it!

Reply ButtonReply

LisaFalana

This looks like a great box and I can’t wait to get it this week. I got the cool palette for my icy undertones. I’m still not totally cool with the EL product for a few reasons, but a very decent box overall.

Reply ButtonReply

Aimee

I did an annual last year after the fall box….and then Winter 2018 happened. Was happy that I was able to cancel easily before this year’s renewal hit. This was always my favorite box but not even getting my winter box last year and only 3 other boxes made it really easy to not renew. Pretty sad when most people get these boxes for $60 each and I paid $350 for 3 of them. They should really be ashamed of themselves.

Reply ButtonReply

Potato

Yep, I love Box of Style boxes, but the constant 50% discount makes it impossible for me to sign up for an annual. Waiting to see if this one will reach the 50% off point LMAO

Reply ButtonReply

Alice R

It will. Not many people are falling head over heels on that robe…and a candle.

Sofia Lopes

Me too! Then I’ll get it.

Stephanie

Liz, do you know if says the fabric used? Crepe de Cine is usually silk but can also be made with cotton, rayon or the dreaded polyester….

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

This is 100% polyester. Sorry I forgot to include that!

Reply ButtonReply

Shel

So it’s another “vegan leather” term. The actual retail value of this entire box might be worth the $150 they claim that polyester robe to be.

Natlovesmelody

LOL, could not resist. Had to HAVE IT!

Reply ButtonReply

julia

Do you still have to call them or email them to cancel your subscription? I love this box, but I really hate it when I can’t cancel on their website under my account.

Reply ButtonReply

Cynthia

No you can do it straight from your account. It’s really easy and I’ve had no issues cancelling.

Reply ButtonReply

O

I am really excited about this box. Mine shipped today and should be here in a week. I am a size 8 and ordered the smaller size robe…wondering if I should have gotten the larger size.
I am also supposed to receive an annual subscriber gift of a crystal Bracelet. Has anyone received it and if so, what is it like? I’m thrilled to be getting it because I already received the Echo Look with my 1st box and wasn’t expecting another extra.
Great review Liz! I would also like to see others modeling the robe.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Thanks so much! We’ll see what we can do for additional modeling pics!

Reply ButtonReply

Robyn

Does the robe have pockets? If so I’m all over this box, my mom loves robes like this but the last one she got herself didn’t have pockets and she hates it. She is also the most frugal person ever and will wear the pocketless one out before buying herself a new one.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Sorry, no pockets!
