The Sill October 2019 Box Review
I decided to choose the "pet-friendly" subscription option since our dog, Tucker, seems to enjoy nibbling on our houseplants. I also decided to change my planter color to "blush" this month. You can swap planter colors every month if you so desire!
The plant was very carefully packaged, just like last month, though more dirt did escape this time. This might be from a rougher journey in transit, as it was wrapped very carefully!
My new plant arrived looking a little tired, but I did have to leave it in the box an extra day as I was unable to open it immediately, which probably didn't help. How would you like to spend a few days in a dark box being jostled around?
There was a long teal envelope with some additional info on my new friend. It included a card with information specific to the type of plant inside as well as an additional sheet with care instructions related to what the plant might need right away as it has just spent a few days in a dark box.
Spider Plant
Approximately 5 inches tall and about 10 inches at its widest point.
Small Blush Prospect Planter - Retail Value $25.00
Around 4.25 inches tall and 5 inches across.
I already own a spider plant that lives in my office but I really like this variety so I certainly don't mind another. The office one used to live at my house but my cat kept eating the tips off of all the leaves. She never got sick and refused to stop snacking, so I can personally vouch for the pet-friendly aspect, at least when it comes to cats! This one is pretty young, as when these plants age they shoot off arcing stems where new little puffs of spider plant clusters start to grow. They kind of look like fireworks unless your rude cat eats them. These plants are very easy to care for and flourish in medium to bright light. I tend to water mine once a week and strive to saturate the soil without making it too soggy.
The planter itself is not at all what I would call "blush", as it is more of a peach or light terra cotta. The color is still beautiful and I am beyond happy with it. Again, no drainage hole in this planter (which I really miss!) but it has thick and sturdy walls as well as a delightfully modern shape.
Though my plant arrived looking a little worn out, its overall health and vitality are undeniable. Just look at that green! Who wouldn't love those ombre-like stripes?
The Verdict: Though this subscription is absolutely a splurge and totally not for everyone, The Sill once again delivered on its promise of a healthy and thriving plant to my door in a very cute planter. Could I have bought a spider plant for less somewhere locally? Yeah, I actually have before! But this is certainly not a "practical" sort of subscription and if you expect that from it you will likely be disappointed. But if you have the $$$ to spend and you are looking for a plant surprise each month with an exclusive and beautifully made planter? This fun sub is an easy yes. At the end of the day, I have easily spent more money on things that made me much less happy than a cute plant. And subscription boxes are all about delivering joy, right?
To Wrap Up:
