Tribe Beauty Box October 2019 Review
Wander Beauty Lipsetter in 'Midnight Malbec', 0.18 g - Retail Value $28.00
This color reminds me of crushed blackberries and wow is it is decadent! A dual-ended pencil featuring both lip color and lip liner, this is perfect for day wear and touch-ups. The lip color was smooth and delightfully creamy, with one swipe color, though you could certainly blot it into more of a stain look if you wanted. The liner portion was a little more reserved with a matte finish. They work perfectly together but I very much liked the liner on my whole lip and topped with a balm for a just-bitten look.
She vampy!
No Mo-Stache Portable Lip Wax Kit - Retail Value $12.00
I appreciate this box for keeping it real and sending a cute lip wax kit. Hey, random lip hairs happen, and if you choose to remove them, this is significantly more effective than tweezing each one. Simply rub one of the strips between your palms to heat up the wax, peel apart, apply to unwanted hair, and pull! It does hurt a little like all waxes tend to do, but nothing major, at least for me. This little kit is easily tossed into your purse too, so if you are anything like me and tend to notice random hairs in your car's vanity mirror, this is a savior to keep with you. There is something about that car mirror! It also included a little foil of oil, but that is likely going to serve you more at home since it is not resealable.
Mirabella Beauty "Prime for Face" Makeup Primer, 23 ml - Retail Value $28.00
I didn't love this primer, but I think I generally prefer creamy primer formulas. It left my face feeling a little too slick after application and didn't seem to do a whole lot under my makeup. I will say that it did make my face feel more moisturized, though I wouldn't see myself swapping out any of my normal day creams for this bonus.
Venusgale Halloween Edition Faux Mink Lashes - Retail Value $15.99 (currently on sale for $3.99)
I don't use lashes often but I do like to keep a few pairs on hand for special occasions. With the holidays approaching and a few charity galas (I swear I am not fancy, this is the only season I am truly social all year!) these will get some use for sure. Even though they are technically a Halloween release lash, I find the wispy shape of these to be natural enough to wear sans costume.
Cailyn Cosmetics Cleansing Pad
I use this sort of cleaning pad all the time in the shower with my cleansers and I love them! Simply apply your cleanser of choice all over your face then scrub away with this gentle silicone pad. It helps your cleansers get deep down in your pores and feels awesome. If you are looking for some of your own, I always find mine at T J Maxx or Marshalls for less than $5. They also work really well on smaller makeup brushes.
And the October box will include one of the following palettes:
SUVA Saffron Palette - Retail Value $35
Isn't this warm palette a dream?! Eat your heart out, KKW Sooo Fire Palette. Though those reds look mighty red in the pans, they are so much more subtle and wearable on skin. These all have loads of pigment (though the mattes have less than their glistening counterparts) and the shimmers are so metallic! The mattes did have a little bit of fallout but I find that is pretty par for the course with many mattes out there. I prefer to apply the metallic shades with a fingertip then blend out with a fluffy brush and wow these were smooth.
Top to bottom: Coriander, Saffron, Cinnamon, Paprika, and Tumeric.
Top to bottom: Ginger (AKA my skin tone), Star Anise, Sarso, and Clove.
SUVA Artisan Palette - Retail Value $44.00
Daaang there is a lot to unpack in this palette. Let's start with the shadows first. There are some gorgeous shades here, though I found them a little less pigmented than the Saffron palette above. They were still totally nice shadows and blended out beautifully. There was also a little more range here than the Saffron, because along with those warm shades you also have a lilac, silver glitter, and a sugar plum shimmer. My faves? Easily Skill and Artistry, even without the over-the-top pigment. They are so soft and delicate, but buildable and buttery too!
Eyeshadows top to bottom: Analysis, Innovation, Perspective, and Artistry.
Eyeshadows (cont.) top to bottom: Influential, Technique, Inspired, Expressive, and Skill.
Also in this palette are two highlighters, a blush, and a bronzer. All were very soft and demure, but very pretty on my fair skin. When combined they created a very cherry blossom sort of skin look that I really liked. No over-the-top pigment here, but they were all soft and blendable.
Blushes and highlighters: Experience, Imaginative, Aptitude, and Composition
Verdict: This was my first Tribe Beauty box and I thought it was pretty great! There were some hits and one miss, but I don't usually expect to adore every single item in a box each month. I really loved the Saffron palette, though if you picked the other SUVA palette I don't think you will be disappointed either. The shades are very pretty and the formulas were good! The lip pencil was a gorgeous shade that I will certainly wear, and the lashes, wax kit, and cleansing pad are great staples to always have close on hand. The only miss for me was the primer, but I am notoriously picky about primers. Value-wise, we are looking at at least $118.99 without the little pad which I couldn't verify online. That is quite a value for $39.99.
