Astral Box November 2019 Review
This is my first Astral Box review in a few months and it's so good to be back. I can't emphasize enough how nice of an experience it is to receive and open this subscription—not to mention using the high-quality products within! Along with the usual list of items that's always included, this month I was greeted with a beautiful handwritten letter (well, a copy of one, which makes sense) that made the delivery feel so much more personal. Another regular detail of this sub is that there are typically dried flower petals sprinkled within, and this month it was lavender. It smelled amazing, but makes a bit of a mess—you may see tiny lavender bits in some of my photos.
Modern Seer Tarot Deck by Kristin McGraw – Retail Value approx. $54.90 USD ($84 NZD)
Believe it or not this is my first tarot deck. So many of my friends draw cards every morning and I've had a lot of curiosity, but never taken the leap. I'm so glad I waited because this delicately illustrated, beautifully minimalist deck feels like it was made for me. I thumbed through nearly every card in the deck when it first arrived and was in total awe over the thoughtful, artful depictions of each card. True to form, Astral Box has sent this deck to subscribers before it's available to the public! The Modern Seer deck is available for pre-order, which you can sign up for if you follow this link. I spent some good time with the included booklet and plan to do more exploring on the Modern Seer website. What a glorious thing to receive!
Reverse Karma Meditation Incense – Retail Value $7.77 USD, found on sale for $4.44
This colorful set of incense sticks was created with the intention of allotting a short amount of time to sit and meditate on a word that's associated with each hue. I light incense all the time in my house and always welcome more, and there were some interesting scents in the mix here that I wouldn't have necessarily chosen for myself (such as watermelon and lavender). The sticks are pretty short so this set isn't asking too much time of you. I like the concept!
Websters Tea 'Blood Orange' Loose-Leaf Tea — Listed Value approx. $2.61 USD ($4 NZD)
I love the simple packaging of this loose-leaf tea, and the detailed info it gives on the back, which explains the type of tea, the ingredients included, and their origin. I typically open, photograph, and taste loose-leaf tea in reviews but this will make a great stocking-stuffer so I left it intact!
The Moon Tapestry — Estimated Value $32.00 USD ($49 NZD) (based on "Night" version found here)
Astral Box art is the best kind of art! They have seriously hooked me up with so many unique items to hang on my walls and slide into the corners of my mirrors and send to friends, and what they send is always something that has supported an independent maker. This lightweight white tapestry has the Moon design from the Modern Seer deck printed on it. The delicate line work is truly beautiful. You can see the dried lavender from the box stuck to the outside of it in the folded image, and in the photo of me holding it open, I had steamed it lightly. If I were to hang it on my wall I would steam it a few more times to get the creases out, but I'm going to gift this to my cousin for Christmas, and I know she's going to go nuts over it!
Tumbled Amethyst Gemstone — Listed Value approx. $2.61 USD ($4 NZD)
Nothin' like some amethyst to bring some spiritual protection into your space. This tumbled rock would be perfect to keep in your pocket as you go about your day.
Verdict: Sigh, I'm just in love with the November Astral Box. I feel so treated by its contents! I'm thrilled about the Modern Seer tarot deck both because now I can explore tarot, and because it's just absolutely beautiful. The other items in the box support it wonderfully, and there wasn't a single thing I didn't appreciate receiving. Based on a mix of retail & listed values, the items in this box have a total value of around $97 USD (that's using the sale price for the incense—it's closer to $100 with the full incense price), which is at the high end of the $67-$101 USD value range that was promised by Astral Box.
