Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review
The first things I grabbed from the package were two cards with a note from Katie (the curator and aromatherapist behind this box!), a sneak peek for the December box, and all the info on the included oils this month. It also let me know that 13% of my purchase cost was donated to The Daughter Project, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing children and women from sex trafficking. It makes me feel extra excited to support companies that give back and deliver awesome boxes.
Also included were 6 recipe cards and coordinating stickers to use on all my handmade items!
Now, for the oils I received this month:
Lime Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $8.99
From Simply Earth:
It is said that the mere inhalation of the beautiful citrus scent of lime can stimulate the sympathetic nervous system and evoke alertness. Massaging the oil can have a relaxing and stress-relieving effect.
Lime is one of those oils that feels perfect for any season: mix with florals in the spring or summer, or herbs and spices for the cold months. Either way, it works and adds such a fresh vibe to your diffuser or DIY beauty product.
Eucalyptus Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $9.99
From Simply Earth:
When first discovered in Australia, Eucalyptus treated everything from a cough to skin diseases. Eucalyptus leaves were minced to use for respiratory ailments, wounds, ulcers, aching joints, fevers, and dysentery. Today you could find Eucalyptus in cough syrups, toothpaste, and cosmetics.
We go through a lot of eucalyptus oil in my house because Will always is congested and we both hate the scents of medicinal rubs like Bengay. Eucalyptus has always felt like a natural alternative that smells so much better and is still very effective at clearing up sinuses.
Cinnamon Essential Oil Blend, 15 ml – Retail Value $11.99
From Simply Earth:
Ancient middle eastern cultures used Cinnamon Leaf for colds, flu, digestive issues, menstrual complaints, and as a general stimulant. Believed to be one of the oldest plants on Earth, it is still very popular for its various health benefits.
Since I am not a big fan of "food scents" in candles or cosmetics, cinnamon is one of my go-to scents for the holidays, along with anything pine or evergreen. I also find it is nice to diffuse if I have a stomach ache or nausea.
Tranquility Blend Essential Oil, 15 ml – Retail Value $11.99
From Simply Earth:
Tranquility Essential Oil Blend is a calming blend that promotes feelings of contentment, composure, and reassurance, helping you feel more at ease and bringing about a sense of well being when anxious feelings try to overwhelm your emotions.
I absolutely love this blend of lemon, patchouli, orange, and ylang-ylang! It is delightfully floral, but still earthy, with a bright citrus zinginess.
As always, they have high-quality plastic dropper inserts inside.
Whole Milk Powder, 4 tbsp - Retail Value $3.99
I don't drink milk but I love what it does for my skin! It has so many vitamins and nutrients that help with hydration and softening. This pouch may look small, but a little bit of this goes a long way.
Dried Lavender Flowers, 0.1 oz - Retail Value $1.00
Is there anything like the scent of lavender? Gah, I love it! These little buds add both fragrance and visual beauty to any project. Just opening the bag was magical.
Pair of Drawstring Tea Bags
These little bags were included, and I plan on using them to contain my milk bath (see below) so the lavender buds don't explode all over my tub.
I decided to try out the Tranquility Milk Bath recipe since I already had Epsom salts on hand and it looked simple enough. I am also trying to handcraft a few additional small gifts for Christmas, and this seems perfect!
I started by adding all the ingredients together. I decided to double this recipe for extra to give, and there was enough powdered milk and lavender buds included this month to do this easily.
Here is a shot of everything mixed together with a spoon. You could easily just mix the items together and gift them just like this, but the recipe recommends blending the dry ingredients together in a blender.
Here is the powder after I blended everything together. It certainly gives the powder mix a more polished and professional finish and even shreds the lavender buds which is nice because they will easily go down the drain after your bath is done.
I dropped in a little extra of the delightful Tranquility blend. Though I had some worries about mixing the wet oil in with all the dry ingredients, with a quick stir everything became totally blended with no clumps.
I had a few extra buds left in the bottom of the bag, so I tossed them inside, mainly because I think they look so pretty and add so much to the finished powder. I plan on packaging this bath powder into some vintage glass containers I have on hand, garnishing with a ribbon and sprig of evergreen, and then gifting.
Verdict: Simply Earth was delightful this month and gave me an excuse to make some handmade gifts for my Christmas list. Although I will be giving this amazing milk bath powder away, I did sneak a few spoonfuls into my own bath and I am obsessed. I already have plans for making more once the holiday rush dies down and I can focus on some self-pampering. I am also excited to give the other blends and recipes a shot too!
