Adults & Crafts "Weathered Wood Caddy" Review January 2020

In this awesome Adults & Crafts project, they have provided all of the necessary items to create a beautiful weathered wood caddy! I love how well organized and easy to follow the included directions are!

Let's get into the items included in this box:

Pre-Cut Wood Pieces

The main inclusion of this box is this awesome set of pre-cut wood pieces. All of the pieces are measured to the exact size and fit together perfectly. I couldn't be happier with them!

Sandpaper

No wood building kit would be complete without sandpaper! This nice sized sheet is to be used to sand all the wood pieces. Honestly, I felt my wood pieces were pretty smooth, so I didn't do too much sanding.

Hammer

You can't build a weathered wood caddy without a hammer! They truly pull out all of the stops when they curate this box! They seriously include everything! Now I have my very own hammer for the house!

Nails

To complete this project we also needed nails. We needed 24 nails, and they included a few extra which are always welcome!

Bottle Opener Nails

We also received 2 bottle opener nails. These are to be used if you decide to attach the bottle opener to the side of the wood caddy.

Bottle Opener

Because this wood caddy can be used as a drink caddy they have included a bottle opener that can be attached to the side. Because I am using my caddy to hold remotes, I didn't add this hardware to mine, but have it in our "extra hardware" box for future use!

Paint Brush

They also included a paintbrush to apply the paint and the weathering.

Craft Smart Acrylic Paint - Retail Value $0.99

I am new to this brand of acrylic paint, and I have to say I am a fan. I love the coverage and the color options! I also found it interesting that the website says it is weather-resistant, can be used on a variety of surfaces, and is top-rack dishwasher safe!

Darice Satin Acrylic Paint - Retail Value $1.00

We also received a bottle of Darice acrylic paint. I found this to cover well, and do just I what I needed it to.

The first step was to do some sanding. Because my dowel fit perfectly and my wood pieces were smooth, I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this step. I laid out all of my pieces and coordinated them with the instructions to make sure I had everything I needed.

The next step was to mix the brown paint with the antiquing medium and paint away. The instructions recommended painting and after 2 minutes wiping off the excess with a paper towel. Once the paint dries for about 10 minutes, you are told to flip over and paint the other side.

.

Here is a close-up of our pieces. When painting- be careful not to apply it too thick in the dowel hole and the divider slots.

Because I wanted my paint to dry fairly quickly, I didn't go overboard and have a lot of excess paint. I did use a paper towel to run along a few edges where I got a little sloppy!

Because this project is a bit messy, I recommend covering all of your workspaces! I found the weathering portion of this project to splatter a bit.

And here are our painted wood pieces!

After both pieces of the wood were completely dry, I followed the directions and lightly brushed the white paint on the wood pieces to give it the weathered look. I was a little scared at first, but think it turned out great!

We were told to "weather" all pieces except the dowel. That will be painted after it is put together.

In the assembly process, the dowel is put into one of the "church" pieces.

Then we place the other "church" piece into place.

The bottom piece comes next, I started hammering the nails into the bottom wood piece before putting it into place.

I lined the nails up with the bottom and hammered away!

It really is starting to take shape!

Next up are the sides and bottom. I lined them up and added the necessary nails.

How cute is this caddy!? All that is left is to paint the dowel and add the dividers!

The dividers are made by sliding the slotted pieces into each other. They were both a really tight fit and I gently tapped them with a hammer to put them together.

Here it is assembled. Now it's time to fit it in the caddy!

It slid right into place! I also am pleased that it pops right out in case you want to use the caddy for something else.

After painting the dowel, and letting it dry, it was ready for use! As I said above, all along I was planning on using it for a remote holder (because otherwise the remotes get lost in the pillows,) so I did not apply the bottle opener to the side.

I love that the weathered look goes perfect with my decor, and it can hold not only my remotes but magazines too! This was the perfect addition to our living room! And extremely fun to make!

Verdict: This is my third month of Adults & Crafts, and I love it! This month was super fun and unique! I loved that they sent us a kit to assemble and customize to our liking. This project is so versatile, and I think anyone could find a use for it. If I wouldn't have used it for a remote holder, it would have been an adorable gift to give with a 6 pack of cider! The curation of this box is wonderful. They truly send all of the items you need to create a beautiful project. I can't wait to see what they send next month!

To Wrap Up:

Can I get this box if I sign up today? This was the January box, so your subscription will likely begin with the February box.

Value Breakdown: The cost of this box is $39.95 ($33 + $6.95 shipping) and it gives you enough supplies to create a customizable wood caddy. Just FYI, I found a similar caddy on Etsy for $50!

Great idea to use it for the remotes! I used mine to store my markers and pens for bullet journaling.
