Bonjour Jolie December 2019 "Happy Holidays" Review

This month's Bonjour Jolie box theme is "Happy Holidays" and they included this card which details all of the items we received in our box. My box was a little late this month, but it's understandable considering how crazy things get around the holidays!

Let's start with the goods. All of your menstrual products will come in a discreet bag that usually fits within our theme and in this case, we have these cute snowflakes!

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

Seventh Generation Ultra-Thin Overnight Pads (20) - Buy 28 for $7.99

You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile, but keep in mind there might be a delay if you need to switch up your needs each month. The ability to switch it up is what I really like about this box and the fact that you can try new things without committing to an entire box of products. I now use a menstrual cup during this time, but I like to have a little extra protection overnight, so I'm happy they had a choice that was free from dyes, fragrances, and chlorine for me.

Summer's Eve Cleansing Cloths in Simply Sensitive (2) - Buy a box of 16 for $2.27

They send cleansing cloths like these each month which is nice because I have a great little stash for when I might need them to freshen up.

Advil To-Go Packs (2) – Buy 50 2-packs for $7.45

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

Bang Beauty Eyeshadow Palette in Warm Neutral – Retail Value $35.00

Our gift this month is this Bang Beauty warm palette with a mix of neutral matte shades and a few shimmers. I was worried these shades would be a bit too orangey for me, but I was pleased to find that I was able to make several of these colors work. The pigment was decent, falling somewhere in the middle, I didn't experience any fallout and they felt silky and blended well on my lid. They wore well and lasted most of the day for me. It's nothing spectacular, but it's a solid little palette to have around and a great size with a range of shades to keep in your purse or travel bag.

Here they are swatched starting from the top left and moving across then down.

Here is a look I put together using the darkest shade (swatch 9) on the outer corners, the lighter shimmer (swatch 2) over the rest of my lid, and the lightest shade (swatch 1) at my browline. I did use another color in my crease, but I really cannot remember which one at the moment, although I definitely stayed away from the more orange shades so it was most likely swatch 4 or 6! They did all blend well together for a decent neutral look.

Christmas Re-usable Heating Pad - Listed Value $15.00

Our next gift is this cute little re-usable heating pad that comes in a handpainted burlap pouch. You can heat the little pouch of gel beads up or pop it in the freezer to use it cold. This is a pretty simple item and definitely not high end, but I appreciate the cute snowman design!

Keebler Fudge Stripes Minis, 2 oz - Listed Value $0.75 (Buy a box of 36 for $12.49)

I love me some Fudge Stripes and these minis were a great treat! They actually had quite a few in the pack too, which was nice!

Russel Stover Holiday Favorites in Caramel, Truffle, and Marshmallow (3 x 1 oz. bars) - Listed Value $1.00 each

On our card we had four different Russel Stover treats listed, but sadly I only received three, and they weren't actually the ones listed on the card which was so disappointing because I really wanted a coconut wreath and a peppermint bark snowman! I also think the listed hot cocoa marshmallow bar would have been a step up from the marshmallow Santa I received.

Caramel Santa - Buy a 6 pack for $3.49

I'm not a huge Russel Stover fan usually, but the caramel Santa was pretty good.

Truffle Santa, 1 oz - Retail Value $0.59

The second runner up would be the Truffle, although I don't think it's quite fair to call it a truffle since the name implies deliciousness and decadence. This was just okay.

Marshmallow Santa - Buy a 6 pack for $3.49

The marshmallow Santa was a sticky crumbly mess and I'm okay with that because it takes a really delicious marshmallow for me to enjoy it as a treat so this was an easy one to pass on.

Mini Candy Canes (5)

Our tea came in a little pouch with five mini candy canes. These aren't listed on our card and since you can buy a box of over a 100 for $0.99 here, I am not going to count these towards the total value, but instead, think of them as a bonus!

Stash Teabags (3) - Listed Value $1.00 (Buy an 18 ct box for $3.95)

Our teas this month are such delicious flavors! I have already tried two of them and loved them. The Breakfast in Paris is a mix of lavender and bergamot with vanilla extract and it was lovely!

I just had to try the Holiday Chai since it has cinnamon, allspice, clove, ginger, gingerbread, nutmeg oil, and Jamaican rum flavor. This tasted like a warm, cozy cup of Christmas! It was so unique and delicious, I just drank it straight, and I already ordered myself a box of this because it was that good!

Verdict: In terms of the snacks, this month's Bonjour Jolie box was a bit of a letdown. I have gotten so used to the mix of treats and delicious edibles, but this month it was really just the cookies, three Santas and the candy canes. That's not super exciting, especially since I didn't even receive the more adventurous chocolate flavors on my information sheet. While the snacks were lacking a bit, I did really love the tea flavors and I thought the Bang Beauty palette was a nice gift and its high value might explain why the rest of our box was so light. The snowman heating pad was cute and makes perfect sense in a winter edition of a period box, so overall, I think it was a good mix, but just a little light on the snack end! Using a mix of retail and listed values, my rough estimate comes to $61.04 which is awesome for a $24.48/month ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping) box!

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Super cute! Great review!
One little thing though, not sure if it’s their wording or yours, but especially with period products, when I see the word “edible” my mind goes to weed gummies not Russel Stover lol. I don’t think that’s a subscription box (yet) but maybe “snacks” or “treats” would keep people from getting their hopes up 😂

Haha I totally agree! They call them edibles on their info cards and site so I just go with it, but I definitely think that each time, too! I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before there is such a subscription! Lol. I’ll be sure to change it to snacks next month so there won’t be any confusion! 😊 Thanks, Amy!
