Smoot: A Rebellious Shadow by Michelle Cuevas - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $10.26)
Smoot is a shadow belonging to a well-behaved boy who never seems to do anything particularly adventurous. One day, when their connection breaks, Smoot decides to experience the world in color and do all of the fun things he's dreamed of doing. When the other shadows see how much fun Smoot is having, they decide to live out their wildest fantasies as well. The frog becomes a prince, the dragonfly, a fire-breathing dragon, and soon Smoot worries that things may go awry so he helps coax each shadow back to their owners.
My daughter and I had a lot of fun with this book and talking about what her shadow might do if it decided to be a bit rebellious one day! This was a unique story full of imagination and some great illustrations!

Waiting for Snow by Marsha Diane Arnold - Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $13.29)
As much as the first story was meant for my daughter, so was this second book for my 3-year-old son! He loves animals and is always asking about snow, so this was a perfect read for him. Badger just can't wait for the snow to come and even though Hedgehog assures him it will come just as the sun always rises each day and the flowers always bloom in spring, Badger still can't wait. His friends try to help him bring on the snow, throwing pebbles to poke holes in the clouds, doing a snow dance and even wearing their pajamas to bed backward. Eventually, Badger gets his wish! This story was cute and full of adorable critters doing silly things. We loved it!
Verdict: I love that the selections from Bookroo this month were perfect for my kiddos! While both of my children enjoyed both books, it was neat to see how well each one suited them and their personalities. The books were cute with imaginative characters and the illustrations were all wonderful. The total retail value of our books comes to $32.29 which is pretty good for a $24.94 ($19.95 + $4.99 shipping)/month box. While it is a little less with sale prices ($23.55), I am not sure I would have discovered these books on my own, so there is some added value in that!
