JoahBox December 2019 "Merry & Bright" Review
When you first subscribe to JoahBox, there are four drop-down menus to customize your experience:
You will choose your birth month, skin tone (ranging from "very fair" to "dark brown"), your skin type (oily, dry, combination, acne-prone, dull/aging, or sensitive/redness) and if you'd prefer to receive more skincare, makeup, or both.
JoahBox includes a small booklet that goes over each item, the retail value, and how to use it. Best to keep this on hand just in case the packaging doesn't have instructions in English!
Med-Line Gao Ben-F Eye Capsule Serum, 10 ml - Listed Value $22.00
Now, THIS is what I am talking about! One of my favorite things about K-Beauty is the fun packaging and delivery of the products. Why have a boring ol' eye cream when you can have it in the form of yellow jelly balls in clear serum, packed in an applicator that looks like a syringe?! Having this fun pump makes me want to use the eye cream more, which is contains angelica tenuissima root extract and acetyl hexapeptide-8 to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. When you gently depress the end of the syringe, you'll see the thick serum come out of the soft rubber tip which you can use to spread some of the product under the eye. I then use my ring finger to gently pat it under my eye and at the corners. No immediate results, but at least this is more motivation for me to use!
So Natural Woo Lip Oil Plumper in Clear, 0.16 oz - Retail Value $16.00
This cute little chubby bottle of lip oil glides on using the doe-foot applicator and I can feel a slight minty tingle for the first few seconds. After it calms down, I am left with glossy lips. I'm not sure they look all that plumper, but it's still quite hydrating and isn't sticky at all. There was a pink variation as well but I'm pleased that I got clear since it can be layered over my favorite matte lipstick.
Bellflower Hibiscus Anti-Aging Gel Cream, 60 ml - Retail Value $15.00
This anti-aging cream goes onto the skin clear and is super soft. It's supposed to block pigmentation to prevent dark spots with vitamin C and citric acid and also produces collagen to plump the skin. It has a really pleasant light hibiscus scent. I do end up following this up with a moisturizer just because my skin wants a little more but it is moisturizing on its own as well.
GH1933 Leave-In Hair Treatment, 1.05 oz - Listed Value $14.00
Whoa- I did not expect much from this leave-in treatment from the hairstylist to K-Pop stars Super Junior but it's fantastic. It made my hair so incredibly silky and smooth! It's made with "17 types on amino and 3 types of vegetal protein complexes" from things like aloe vera, red bean, glycerin, and rose of Jericho. I feel like I used a lot of what was in the tube in one go, but it's only supposed to be used on the ends of the hair, so I think I overdid it. At any rate, this stuff is top-notch in my book.
Hong Shot Power Lasting Velvet Tint in Deep Pink, 5 g - Listed Value $18.00
Good gosh, I love this lip color on! Out of the three variations, I got Deep Pink which would have been my last choice to Real Red or Vivid Coral but the pink is so dark that it looks red to me. I am a little obsessed. The formula is very unique in that it's a stain but also kind of creamy. Very strange! It wears quite well but after a few hours, I did need to apply to keep it vibrant. Once I removed it at the end of the day, it left a light pink stain behind but some oil got it off quickly.
Gangbly Jeju Camellia Firming Mask - Listed Value $2.00
This was really soaked in jelly serum and after the mask came off, my face still had an incredible amount slathered all over it. I'm realizing that my skin is pretty well hydrated so while I may find it to be too much, some with dehydrated skin may want all of it to soak in. For me, I blotted quite a bit off to a more manageable amount to massage into my skin. It was slightly sticky but after a few minutes, my skin felt unbelievably soft.
Verdict: I really enjoyed JoahBox this month! Both lip products are great, the mask was nice, the hair treatment was magical, the eye serum was fun and the cream smells delightful. What a stellar box full of great K-Beauty goodies! I loved this mix of makeup and skincare with a little hair care tossed in there.
