Pura Vida Jewelry Club "The Swell Set" January 2020 Review

One thing I enjoy about Pura Vida is that they always send some nice stickers with their jewelry. The designs are really fun and they always come packaged inside this foldout card that shares their story and details how they give back. They create over 200 full-time jobs for artisans worldwide!

Your jewelry will arrive in this nice sturdy box with a magnetic closure that would be perfect for gifting. Inside is some fun tropical tissue paper that makes for such a nice presentation! The card on top of our tissue paper welcomes us to the club and reminds us how our exclusive jewelry is only available to club members. This month we also received this pretty bonus sticker!

Just a note: This card states that the value will be up to $50, while their website lists it as being up to $65. This is a little confusing, and also could be misleading since the higher value is listed on their website, but after a quick (and easy) chat with customer service they confirmed that the $65 value is correct.

Your jewelry comes in little dustbags each month which are perfect for storing your jewelry in. These are a bit different than the ones that come in their bracelet club pack. These are a little smoother and sleeker in my opinion.

Opal Stone Ring

Our first item this month is this silver-plated ring adorned with pretty large opals which are roughly cut giving them a multi-faceted look that makes them sparkle. I have been wearing this ring non-stop for several days now and while the stones stick out pretty far, none of them have come loose yet and they still feel pretty secure.

Here it is on. So pretty! I will say that the ring does feel a bit bulky on my finger though. I think it's because the stones go so far around the ring. I think one less stone would feel perfect on my finger. It's still pretty comfortable to wear, but at times I do notice it on, unlike other rings I own.

Open Wave Ring

This next ring has a fairly large open wave at the top. I love the open look of the wave, but this definitely feels like more of a summer design to me. It is much more of a casual design in comparison to our first ring, but somehow they still work well together.

Here it is on. This one is very lightweight and comfortable.

Here is how the rings are meant to be stacked together.

I think they look nice together and work pretty well, but overall, it probably isn't my favorite design.

Bonus Bracelet: Surfrider Bracelet - MSRP $6.00

This month we received a bonus bracelet which is from their charity collection. This one is the Surfrider bracelet and 5% of every sale of this bracelet goes towards the Surfrider Foundation which is dedicated to protecting our oceans, waves, and beaches. This is a simple bracelet with strings in multiple shades of blue in their Original design which we frequently see in the Bracelet Club subscription we review.

Here it is on. Cute and blue!

Here you can see both the ring and bracelet in this photo. Of course, they work nicely together since they are all pretty simple in design and all have that hint of a water theme to them.

The Verdict: I am so surprised that Pura Vida Jewelry Club chose to go with silver for the third month in a row and even more surprised that they chose to include a set of rings again so soon since they just sent some in November and also included a ring in December's set. This was definitely not my favorite set, although I do really like the opal ring and I'm sure I will appreciate the wave ring a bit more in the summer months. It was nice that they included a bonus bracelet for us, too, but since the rings felt more like a set (one item), it didn't feel like a usual Jewelry Club shipment to me for the $19.95 cost of this subscription which is supposed to be providing jewelry with a retail value up to $65. What do you think?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? As of now, it looks like this pack is still available! From Pura Vida:

Orders ship within 4-5 days of purchase. Your card will be charged $19.95 + tax on the 7th of each month, and your pack will arrive around the 15th.

Value Breakdown: At $19.95 for this box, you're paying about $9.98 for each piece.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I really like the opal ring

It just looks like stuff you’d pick up in the check out at American Eagle. But I do love the charity causes and that alone could hook em. I’ve been debating about subing to them for a while and I think this little summer set hooked me. Though that said, it is a bit odd to have such a summer item in January. Unless it is a global sub where it is summer in other places that get this.. Things to think about LOL

How well does the jewelry hold up before tarnishing?

Mine are still good. I shower with the necklace from september and never take it off its still nice and shiny. One of November’s rings turned bronze in the back maybe from lotion

I haven’t actually had a piece tarnish on me yet, and I am a terrible jewelry-wearer – I always forget to remove them before showering or sleeping. I do usually switch them out when the next month’s selections come, so they may tarnish after long-term use! I’ll be sure to note if I ever experience any of my older pieces beginning to tarnish!

Thanks for the review, Brandi! I don’t see $65 of value here, and I agree with you that the opal ring has a bad design (too many stones, so the ones at the ends “bother” the adjacent fingers).

That said, I can definitely see $20 of value here.

My thoughts exactly! I would’ve probably been a bit let down if I received this based a little on the $65 claim but more so because of what I did get while lovely looking, wasn’t comfortable to wear. The bracelet seems a bit like something they threw in out of guilt for such a lackluster month.

Honestly tired of all the rings. I want necklaces and bracelets or anklets

Thanks for weighing in, Dea! I love to hear what you all think! 🙂
