SnackSack Classic December 2019 Review

Included in our box was this handy brochure highlighting all of the snacks in the Classic, Vegan and Gluten-Free SnackSack boxes.

First-time subscribers will receive a reusable SnackSack bag that you can keep all of your snacks in!

Pop Zero Simply Cinema Popcorn, 0.7 oz – Buy a 5 oz bag for $3.99

This popcorn was light and airy with a good texture. It had a very subtle lightly-salted flavor and the bag was a pretty generous portion. This is made with algae oil and algae flour, which is not something I could taste, but also something I couldn't get out of my head as I ate this! The only other two ingredients were air-popped popcorn and sea salt making this a pretty decent option, although definitely not a substitute to buttery, movie theatre popcorn! This popcorn is vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO.

Prince of Peace Lemon Ginger Chews, 4.4 oz – Retail Value $4.29

When I first tried them I was taken back by the ridiculously firm and chewy texture of these ginger chews, but then my husband and I could NOT STOP EATING THEM! They softened as you chewed them and while they were mild in flavor at first, the ginger gets released and provides just the right amount of spice with a little bit of lemon flavor at the finish. These are so addictive! I wish that I'd known about these when I was pregnant with morning sickness because I'm sure these would have been delicious and helpful! These are gluten-free.

Marich Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels 2.1 oz – Buy 12 packs for $30.00

Last month we got to try the chocolate covered cashews from this brand and these sea salt caramels were just as delicious! There was more caramel than chocolate and it was like a burnt sea salt caramel that was nice and chewy and had just the right amount of sweetness. The overall texture and flavor were great!

JoyBol Chocolate Hazelnut Smoothie Bowl, 1 bowl - Estimated Value $3.29 (While this flavor is currently unavailable, the bowl we tried last month retailed for this price)

Well, I said last month that I'd be willing to try a different flavor of these since it is such a cool concept and has a decent amount of protein, but alas, this one was still not for me! The chocolate hazelnut flavor was certainly more appealing and at first, it tasted like brownie batter with a hint of hazelnut at the end, but the cold, soupy consistency was where it went wrong for me. I guess I won't be buying these non-GMO bowls for breakfast.

Betty Lou's Angel Snow Bar 1.23 oz– Buy 12 bars for $21.99

We all love coconut around here so this was a nice surprise. This white chocolate bar was filled with a sweet, creamy coconut filling which made for a super-rich treat. I personally would prefer dark or milk chocolate since I find those to be less sweet, but it made it easier to share since it was so rich and sweet. These are certified USDA organic, vegetarian, gluten-free, and non-GMO.

FlapJacked Soft Baked Cookie Bar, 1.90 oz – Buy 12 bars for $24.99

I actually really like the protein muffins from this brand so these bars intrigued me. Chocolate chip sounded good, they looked okay and they provide both pre and probiotics, but I think I'd rather get mine elsewhere because none of us were fans of the flavor. We didn't enjoy the texture and the sweet flavor was a bit odd. This is gluten-free.

Lorissa's Kitchen Tender Beef Bites in Original, 0.5 oz – Buy a 5-count box for $6.09

These tender beef bites were pretty good. They were small strips of grass-fed beef steak and the flavor was good, although pretty mild. There is a decent amount of protein in these bites and they don't use any nitrates or preservatives, so they do also taste really fresh and clean. As with all bags of beef, there was a pretty small amount in the bag which was disappointing because we would have gladly eaten more! These are gluten-free.

Free for All Kitchen Roasted Garlic Rosemary Crackers, 0.75 oz – Buy a 5 oz box for $7.10

These crackers were pretty plain with a strong rosemary flavor. I think they could have used a bit of salt or something to amp them up a bit. They were kind of dry and grainy in texture and while I didn't enjoy them plain, they were pretty good when I dipped them in some hummus! These are gluten-free and non-GMO.

Crazy Go Nuts Garlic Parmesan Walnuts, 1.25 oz - Buy an 8 oz bag for $9.98

These walnuts came in very small pieces and were pretty garlicky. The parmesan flavor was not very strong or apparent so overall, they were a bit bland. I do think they would make a great salad topping though mixed with some other flavors! These are gluten-free.

Bear Nibbles Real Fruit Yo-Yos in Mango, 0.7 oz – Buy a 12-count box for $9.17

These fruit yo-yos were slightly tart, a little bit sweet, and had a nice chewy texture. There were two of those yo-yos inside and while they were pretty long when unrolled, it still felt like a pretty small snack. Everyone liked these except for my 3-year-old, but he's hard to please these days. He did really love the little animal card that came in the pack, which I also thought was fun! These are vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO.

Legendary Foods Buffalo Blue Wing Seasoned Almonds, 1.5 oz – Buy a 4 oz pouch for $5.99

I am not a huge buffalo sauce fan and I detest blue cheese, but my husband loves both so these went directly to him. I did try one, and I admit the flavors were subtle and the almond itself was delicious and fresh tasting, but otherwise, they weren't for me. My husband was a big fan though! These are gluten-free.

Life's Grape Dark Chocolate Dipped Vine-Dried Grapes, 0.8 oz. – Buy a pack of 12 for $14.49

This last treat was a favorite of everyone in our house! These were like grown-up chocolate covered raisins with delicious dark chocolate and soft, sweet raisins inside. They had a light dusting of cocoa powder on the outside that added to the decadence! I plan on ordering more of these soon! These are gluten-free and non-GMO.

The Verdict: We were introduced to a few really great snacks this month by SnackSack! The Life's Grapes and Prince of Peace ginger chews are both on my shopping list since they were such big hits. There were really only two snacks that were let downs, the Joybol and the Probiotic bar, but both were worth a try! I liked that there was a good mix of fruits, nuts, sweets, and salty snacks making it a great variety overall. This was a pretty decent box with 12 new snacks to test out for $22.95 plus free shipping!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but order by the 15th of the month to receive the January box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $22.95 with free shipping which means that each of the 12 types of items in the box has an average cost of $1.91.

I’m with you; even if I don’t like a snack I received, I’m still happy to have tried something I’ve never seen before. Plus, now I know not to buy a big box of them.

Exactly! For the most part, all of the things we’ve received are something I’d consider purchasing if I’d seen it at the store, so it works out! 🙂
