Jeffree Star Valentine's Day Premium Mystery Box Review

The Gloss in Succulent, 0.13 oz - Estimated Value $18 (different shades available here)

Wow- this packaging. It is absolutely breathtaking and I am in love with it. The shade Succulent was created just for this box, and it’s a sparkly pink gloss with flashes of blue and purple glitter. “But Jessica,” you may be saying, “is this even a wearable lip gloss shade?” To that, dear reader, I say absolutely. I’m not reaching for this for my day job as an attorney, but I really like it for a casual weekend gloss. I am 100% that person who will wear glittery lip gloss with my athleisure clothes to go grocery shopping, especially when it is as comfortable as this one- there is no stickiness. Plus, I found that while it looks incredibly sparkly when I first apply it, after I rubbed my lips together a few times the sparkles faded a tad. I definitely loved the formula on this (and the packaging) enough to want to try other glosses from this line.

Alien Palette - Estimated Value $52 (from what I could find, this was the original retail value when the palette was released)

I was STOKED to see a full-size palette when I opened up this box- especially because it was packaged up like a present for me to unwrap. This 18-color palette features cool-toned shades of blues and greens with a good mix of matte and shimmer shadows. I will say that when I was actually trying to do my makeup, I found these shadows a little hard to work with. I had to do a lot more blending, and some of the pigment wasn’t what I was expecting. At one point with the shimmers, I had to use a wet eyeshadow brush to get the desired effect. In the end, I was happy with how it looked on my eyes (and it wore well throughout the night), but it took more work than normal to get a look I was happy with.

Here is the palette swatched, with the lip gloss swatched at the bottom.

Here I am wearing the shades Alien, Flying Saucer, Probe, Tall Grey, and Pluto. If my lipstick looks familiar, that’s because it’s from the Halloween mystery box! I will also say that even though this look took some time, I got multiple compliments on it.

Valentines Day Beanie

A lot of people really love the clothing and fashion accessories produced by Jeffree Star, especially when they're limited edition and exclusive to the mystery box. I am not one of them, and I definitely don’t wear beanies, but I like that the Valentine’s Day appliqué on the cuff of the beanie is small while still being cute. The red knit was really warm, too!

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Popsocket

This isn’t my first popsocket from a Jeffree Star mystery box, but this still counts as an exclusive item since it is in a Valentine’s Day pink. I’ll probably end up giving this away like I did the last one, but if you’ve never tried a popsocket they truly are a game-changer for holding and carrying your phone.

The Verdict: I didn’t hate this mystery box, but I don’t think I loved it. The promise of three exclusive items being included in this box sounded promising, but I wish instead of a popsocket we got another makeup product. I am absolutely in love with that lip gloss though- the packaging is to die for and I want to take all the photos of it. I really loved the unique colors in the Alien palette, but some of the shadows were a bit hard to work with. Value-wise, after taking in the promised value of $105 and the estimated values of the palette and lip gloss at $70 total, that means the value of the beanie and popsocket add up to $35. I wouldn’t pay that personally, but I think that is in line with the normal retail price of Jeffree Star accessories. Since the Alien palette isn’t available for sale from a non-third party and the other items in this box were exclusive, I think huge Jeffree Star fans will be really pleased with this box. As a regular old makeup fan, I’m more ambivalent.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you order today? No, this is now sold out. Mystery boxes are offered a few times a year, so stay tuned for the next round!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $69.95 (60 + $9.5 shipping) which means you are paying about $17.48 per item.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Glad I did not buy this box. I already have the palette and socket (which he puts in every box). The gloss is OK, but at my age I prefer real lipsticks. I really like the hat.

Can we please add the mystery box to the swap site????

Also, I’m surprised at the amount of disappointment in this box. That palette was more than worth the box alone for me! It was discontinued with no warning and prices skyrocketed. I‘m thrilled to have gotten it and I am living for the ease of use in the formulas!!
I won’t use the popsocket or the beanie but they will be easy to sell or swap and I will use the gloss or sell it and be able to make almost half the price of the box back.

This was by far my favorite out of the 3 boxes that I got!!!

I would be super annoyed to get this. I like lipgloss and love eyeshadow palettes but the beanie and the popsocket are lame inclusions. For the price, this is lame.

Not worth the price tag.

Wow so glad I didn’t get this! Was at checkout and saw it was an extra $10 for shipping so I closed the tab lol.

I don’t know why lip gloss is still a thing, but I haven’t been able to wear it without making a mess of my hair/face./life since the third grade lol

I would have been really sad to have gotten a palette and nothing else useful for $70.

Lip gloss is also a thing because of dry skin. I have dry skin so that liquid lips trend was never a thing for me (though I know it’s still going strong for a lot of people). I can maybe get my lips to look perfectly flake free and hydrated enough (Despite using lip scrubs every time I shower, lip balm constantly, like I go through 1-2 balms a month, and lip sleeping mask every single night) that a liquid lip or even normal cream lipstick looks decent (ie not catching on dry flaky bits or chunking up) like 6 times a year. Seriously. Besides that, it’s glosses, tinted balms, occasional stains (the KB/AB trend of popsicle lip stains has been great for me to add color that is non-drying and not a thick coating on my lips!), and rarely a lip pencil with clear balm over it.

Oooo Chelsea, have you tried Benetint from Benefit? I’ve been using it for over 10 years! It’s a watery stain just for color, then I’ll apply balm or gloss on top. My lips have little color, as I have used SPF balm on them since high school, so this adds a nice pale pink wash of color (or darker if I apply more with the included nail polish type of applicator.). It adds no thickness whatsoever, just like Kool Aid that stains your lips, lol. So no caking, and I can use my favorite moisture-adding glosses/balms. Can be used for cheeks too, but I haven’t. 😊👍

I’m in the same boat! I exfoliate properly and pile on the balm, but my lips are still so dry/wrinkly that I don’t even dare to glance at a matte and/or liquid lipstick or pencil. I also can’t do stains though cuz it settles into and therefore accentuates the creases since there isn’t enough pigment and thickness. I wear lipsticks when I’m going out at night or when I know I’ll be mostly in the dark, like at a bar lol. Opaque glosses for the win!

Redhed36

It’s a thing for those who don’t have plump or nice shaped lips. Lip gloss doesn’t define the shape just adds a little something extra. I can only wear lip gloss.

Lip gloss is still a thing because, well, Jennifer Aniston, lol! I love it, and a gloss topper is the only thing that makes dry, cakey, matte lipsticks tolerable for me. Plus, a dab in the middle of the lower lip makes lips look plumper. I’m not fan of glitter on the lips, though, so I’ll probably gift/sell that.

I’m thrilled w the palette, but I haven’t used it yet, so I’m hoping it blends well on me. I love the pop socket and hat too! Theses items will sell EASILY for those who don’t want them, and for a very good price!

I got my Premium box on Monday and I love the Alien Palette and I am obsessed with the lip gloss! The Succulent shade is absolutely stunning and I love the blue/purple shift it has. I’m not a Jeffree Star fan i just really love his Cosmetics so although the pop socket and beanie are adorable they really have no use to me. I’m trading them for a mini jawbreaker palette. I’m happy with my premium box and it has enough value to me personally that I dont regret the purchase

Very glad I didn’t. Too pricey for what was sent out.

I didn’t buy this box but I would have loved the beanie! I do have the Alien palette but have only used a few of the colors. I have used Blue Blood much more.

And honestly, the JS cosmetics mystery boxes are a bit wild at times, so probably more for the JSC fans. Not everyone can pull off a purple or turquoise lippie😳🤗 Definitely worth the price tag for sure 🙌👍

The eyeshadow looks great on you Jessica. But this doesn’t seem worth $70 IMHO.
