Marabu Art Crayon Lovely Red Set - Listed Value $14.99, Retail Value $11.80

Marabu Art Crayon Green Jungle Set - Listed Value $14.99, Retail Value $9.10

Marabu Art Black Crayon - Listed Value $3.99, Retail Value $3.99

Marabu Art White Crayon - Listed Value $3.99, Retail Value $3.99

Look at the rainbow of colors!!!! I was so extremely excited to open this box and find this vast array of supplies in the box! I have never even heard of Art Crayon before, but I am truly in love! Art Crayon is a buttery-smooth, wax-based soft pastel that is packaged in a fully-loaded retractable holder, with a clear cap. They can be used for a variety of fine art and mixed media work, on a variety of textures and surfaces. The directions even say they can be used on wood and fabric! They create rich solids and blend beautifully, especially with water. They seriously glided across the paper and blended out in a fun, beautiful fashion. While doing a bit of research I found many techniques these crayons can be used for, and had a blast trying them out! Hank really enjoyed using these as did I!

Strathmore Ready-Cut Watercolor Paper, 8"X10" - Listed Value $12.29, Retail Value $7.65

I have to admit, Paletteful Packs has turned me into a paper snob, and this watercolor paper has me impressed! We received a 10 pack of this 140 lb. ready cut, cold press watercolor paper that is 100% cotton and acid-free. Hank asked how many pieces of paper he could have, and when I told him one, he seemed very offended, that is until he picked one up and realized this is thick and expensive stuff! I loved the feel of the Art Crayons on this paper. I had no issues with bleeding or warping, even when using a large amount of water, and the texture is very professional looking! I need more!

Princeton Artiste Select Brush 6 Round - Listed Value $5.95, Retail Value $5.99

Another item that this subscription has me drooling over, is the collection of high-quality paintbrushes I receive! This month we were sent a size 6 round Princeton brush that features a robin egg blue handle and synthetic golden Taklon. This particular brush can be used with oil, acrylic, or watercolor paints. I found it to blend the Art Crayons beautifully, and to be the perfect size for what I was looking to create.

Art Alternatives Watercolor Cup - Listed Value $0.85, Retail Value $0.27

While we have received watercolor materials in the past, we haven't received a cup, so this was a welcome addition to the box. It's just a basic plastic cup but made our entire experience feel a little more professional. We have designated it as WATERCOLOR ONLY, so we don't need to dirty any other dishes.

Lunch Box Notes

I think I have mentioned this before, but my 1st grader and pre-schooler MUST have notes in their lunch boxes each day- and every day they want something different. I have tried to send the same one once or twice and was totally busted, so now each of them saves my notes in a special box to ensure they get new ones every day of the week. After doing this for 3 years I am starting to run out of ideas! Thank goodness for Paletteful Packs because these Art Crayons were the perfect media to create lunch box notes! Check out what I came up with below.

Cactus Note

I was completely drawn to the beautiful, bold and bright colors that we received in this box, so I had to come up with something to showcase them. Because I need smaller than 8X10 notes, I cut one sheet into 6 notes. Next, I sketched a simple outline of a cactus in a pot with a pencil. Using the crayon, I added some orange and red to the pot and added a bit of water with the included brush. The colors blended beautifully, and I continued on to the green. Using the 2 different shades of green, I added a bit of color and blended it with the brush. Adding a pop of pink, I colored in the flowers. Once the cactus and pot was dry, I added a bit of aqua green to try and create a blue background. I found this to work better when I added the white crayon to lighten it up a bit. I love how bright it turned out, and I think Charlie will enjoy looking at it while eating his PB&J!

Flower Note

On my second note, I skipped the step of sketching to avoid any pencil lines, and just went for it with the crayon. The crayons seriously glide like butter! I love how these crayons can be layered and built up for extra depth! Using the variety of green crayons I added some leaves and decided to leave the background white. Simple and pretty and a lot of fun to draw!

Here are the rest of my notes. I had a lot of fun playing around with the colors and techniques these crayons can create! Both of my kids are recovering from influenza, so I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked creating these notes, but I also appreciated the fact that I could create fun notes in a small amount of time too!

Kid's Corner

If you look above at the Strathmore Watercolor Paper packaging, you will see the sample picture of the sunflower. That packaging inspired Hank to create his very own sunflowers on his sheet of paper. While he was recovering from being ill, he wanted a low-key activity to do and this box couldn't have come at a better time! He worked so hard on his masterpiece. He was absolutely shocked at how easily these crayons went across the paper and said, "Crayola has nothing on these!" (What am I creating?! Haha!) He was so proud of his art that we are planning on getting it framed.

The Verdict: I am in love with Paletteful Packs. I get so happy when I see this box sitting outside my door, and this box couldn't have come at a better time, with both of my kids feeling under the weather and looking for quiet activities to do. I absolutely love creating art with my family and sharing a variety of hobbies with them. While I am new to the world of Art Crayons, I will be using them a lot! If it weren't for Paletteful Packs, I wouldn't have a clue about a lot of art supplies, so this is a great box for me. I am all about discovering new items, and anything that helps speed up the lunch box note time is wonderful! I can't wait to try a few of the other techniques I read about and see how they turn out!

This subscription costs $35.95 a month. The listed value on the content card had a value of $57.05. I was able to find all of these items online, and the total retail value came to $42.79. While this is more than $10 less than the listed value, I know you would have to pay some shipping costs if you purchased them separately. And like I said above, I would have never discovered these products if it hadn't been for this subscription, so I feel it is a great value, especially since it is over $6 the purchase cost. If you love art and want to discover new supplies, I highly suggest this box! I can't wait to see what we receive in March!

To Wrap Up

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you'll receive the March box. The 26th of every month is the cutoff date to order the box for the coming month. If your order is placed after the 26th, you'll receive the following month's box.

I love Hanks drawing! I was thinking that it would look great framed even before I read that’s your plan. It’s very creative, just like mom!
I think it is such a sweet thing that you send them daily lunch notes, and especially that they like them. Art has a way of making some of the best memories
