February 2020 Super Chewer "Birds and Bees" Review
Each box arrives with an information card with details about the items included, as well as ideas on how to engage with your pup.
This month is "Birds and Bees" themed, which totally cracked me up, since February is the month of loooooove! In case anyone wondered, Archer is 100% my Valentine, in February and always. Please don't tell my husband.
Readers, I can't. I found this in the box and cracked up so hard.
Chicken Thinker Stick, 0.63 oz - Retail Value $3
Archie has become very spoiled on these! He really likes the taste of these, and I've really come to enjoy breaking these up into pieces when we work on his manners. I think he's started to recognize the Super Chewer boxes when they arrive; as soon as I opened this one, Archie trotted right over right to my desk and sat like the goodest boy there ever was, just hoping that he gets into my good graces enough to earn a treat (or more!).
Butcher's Block Bone, 1 oz
If I'm being perfectly honest, this treat didn't have the greatest appeal to me at first! It actually photographs a lot meatier than it actually is, if that makes sense? It's just a bone, but it looks a lot like something you'd find in a butcher shop! When I offer things like this to Archie, I call 'em "chewies," and I just love to see his tail wag when I offer him one. I would imagine that this, since it's hollow, would keep him busy about for about fifteen or twenty minutes, since he's such an intense chewer. I work from home during the day, but I have a good deal of conference calls, so I love giving him a nice treat during those times, to keep him occupied and happy when my attention is directed elsewhere.
Simple Pork Bites Treats, 1.5 oz - Retail Value $5
Aren't these cute? I loved the unique shape and size of these tiny little treats. As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I'm always looking for little treats I can use for training that won't be a ton of calories for my guy. I really liked that these didn't have a strong smell and they still made Archie-kins super-happy!
BarkBox Oven Baked Banana Treats, 4.5 oz
Would you believe that Archie's never had banana before? He's been in my life for long enough that I had a feeling he'd like these, and boy, I was right! I tried for the longest time to crate him at night, but as winter's worn on, it's been so nice to snuggle with him in bed. It's been a little selfish, but I've also tried to keep it structured, and behavior-based! When Arch goes to the foot of the bed and curls up at bedtime like a good boy, I usually give him a treat-o for warming his mom's feets, and these are so perfect for reinforcing his good nighttime behavior.
Lovey Dove Toy
The first toy in the box is really a keeper! Heavy and really tough, this vanilla(!)-scented toy is a really nice addition to Archie's arsenal of entertainment. He loved curling up with it and having a nice chomp on it, and I like the ridges on it. The tag suggested those lines be smeared with peanut butter for added fun, but I like mixing up powdered peanut butter with water for a slightly-lower calorie treat!
Busy Bee Toy
The other toy we received this month was an even bigger hit than the dove! This one has a nice instability to it, and Archie used his nose to knock it around the room. It was so cute I almost died. This one is also ridged, for the possibility of peanut butter filling, and the tag also suggested yogurt, which seemed like a good idea, too! I'm a big fan of filling toys and then freezing them so Archie enjoys them for longer, so hopefully this will still be around in the warm months. I'm sure I'm biased, but I do think my pup is so smart! I told him to go get his "bumble," and he immediately grabbed this!
Verdict: Archie and I had a blast going through this month's Super Chewer box! The toys were a nice change from others that he's previously received in the past, and I absolutely love getting the treats and chews each month. I think that going through the box together is such a nice bonding experience for us, and I just laugh constantly as Archie figures out each new thing for the first time. The scents on the dove and bee were so nice this time around, too; it may seem silly, but there are a lot of dog products that Archie loves that are so smelly (here's lookin' at you, bully sticks!). It's refreshing to find an item he loves that actually smells super-nice! I really look forward to each month's offerings from this box.
