Ahhh Sugar Sugar “All Is Fair in Love and War” January 2020 Review

This box comes with a sheet that gives you more details about the brand.

It also comes with an info sheet for the included products.

You might be thinking "wow, it's been a long time since I have seen this box reviewed." It has been! I didn't receive my December or January Box of Sugar until March due to obstacles thrown the small company's way (read more about that over on their Facebook page). They are now up to date with their shipping schedule, and I am looking forward to the future boxes after this hiccup.

Pour Some Sugar On Me Premium Shave Soap, 4 oz - Listed Value $12.50

I have been trying to make do with 3-blade razors lately instead of my preferred five, and I definitely have noticed that they dull quicker (and thus, are more prone to cutting me or irritating my skin). Along with having a gorgeous color palette, this shave soap is made with whipped soap, sweet almond oil, and cocoa butter to nourish your skin and make it much easier for your razor to shave without leaving any irritation. This definitely had a sweet scent, with the key notes being ice cream, sugar cookie, cotton candy, and waffle cones.

Pink Frosting Lip Scrub - Listed Value $6

I like this lip scrub- it is really dry and gritty, but that is exactly what I want from a lip scrub to make sure my lips are perfectly smooth. The buttercream frosting flavor is a sweet perk, too.

She’s a Flirt Sugar Scrub - Listed Value $12.50

Of all the body products from the brand, the sugar scrubs aren’t my favorite because they are very gritty. This works great when my skin really needs some exfoliating love, but it’s not suited for everyday use. The scent is a blend of pink coconut, sugared berries, vanilla, and spun sugar, so it really adds some sweetness to my shower routine.

Water My Melon Massage Bar - Listed Value $7

I think this is the first time I have received a massage bar from Ahhh Sugar Sugar! If you're a big fan of the brand, one of the perks of the monthly box is that you get to try brand new products along with exclusive scents. This is a sweet, fruity scent made with watermelon, bubble gum, and jasmine, and it is a very soft massage bar that glided across my skin with no tugging. This is made with super nourishing ingredients like cocoa butter, sunflower oil, and mango butter, and it was a lovely follow-up to the grit from the sugar scrub.

The Verdict: I missed my Ahhh Sugar Sugar boxes! Now more than ever I will take every self-care item I can get my hands on, and this is a box full of them. Since this was about a month late (the January box should have shipped by the last Friday in January, arriving in early February) I would have loved to see an extra product thrown in to bump the value up a bit. By the listed values, this box adds up to $38, which is a few dollars less than the cost of the box plus shipping. If you sign up hoping for an amazing deal, you probably won’t be happy, but if you’re looking for well-curated bath and body products in unique scents and creative packaging, I think this is worth checking out.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No, but sign up today for the April box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $34.99 + $8.32 shipping ($43.31), which means each of the 4 items has an average cost of $10.83

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I too received my December Box Of Sugar just this month. I truly sympathize will the plight of any small family owned business but I expected an extra product or two to make up for the extreme shipping delays. It would have gone a long way customer service wise instead of just the little “thank you for your patience” card in the box. I had already cancelled just due to not seeing the value. Their products are VERY good but just too expensive for what I’d provided in the monthly box. Shipping costs too high as well.

You can go on Etsy or FB and find people that make items just like you his for WAY CHEAPER! My sons GF has a friend that makes Homemade body/bath care items. My son had super sensitive skin. She custom made him shaving and bath items and even cane up with his own scent. His skin hasn’t broke out and has improved. Her prices are very reasonable. I don’t mean to be Nelly Negative here but $10 for each item-one being lip scrub which is basically sugar and a tiny hunk of soap!? Come on!!! 😏😬😲🤯🥺☹️😵

I love Etsy, most of the sellers there are so accommodating. After seeing the sticker shock on this box, I remembered there was another bath and body sub that I thought was more reasonable (Fortune Cookie Soap) and from the past reviews, I think that pricing was more on point.

I received this box and honestly it’s not their box which I’ve been enjoyed.
The owner family have been through tough time since last December, and all subscriber who received this box showed understanding for their huge delay on December, January, and February boxes. We all received those 3 boxes between late February to March. All of them were kind of Meh boxes as well…

I will give them one more shot to see if the box get back to their good old one.
If not I’m going to off this box.

I totally agree! While I do sympathize with her plight the boxes have been less than exciting. And some of the products are not full size like before. I canceled my subscription for now. Perhaps once things settle down I will be vack😊

Why? Why would you “go back” when the woman is in over her head and taking both money and advantage of people? There are SO MANY people that make and sell stuff like this (check Etsy and FB) that are way more professional (you don’t broadcast your personal problems to customers). Also, taking money from people to cover the business when you don’t have the items to sell is illegal. I know because my brother did this when his cabinet business was going under. It’s not a joke either; you can’t borrow from Paul to pay Peter (so-to-speak).

I had been a subscriber to this box from the very early on up until recently. Over the past couple of years I have seen the owner give out every excuse you can think of to justify terrible customer service. This hasn’t just been with the delayed boxes but also delayed sales in general. In such a short period of time some of the excuses that have been given include: Illnesses, family death, sick family members, a sick cat, stress, exhaustion, relocation issues, supplier issues, not enough staff, recruitment issues, training issues, USPS collection issues. The list goes on. She must be the unluckiest person on the planet. I fail to sympathize or believe a lot of the excuses given as the services she offers has increased dramatically and continues to do so. The quality, quantity and package design has deteriorated but she continues to expand despite all this apparent chaos in her life. One thing she never has a delay with is taking payment from customers. That is always done promptly.

Glad I’m not alone in feeling this way, especially since people get really testy in their Facebook group if anyone dares to post a comment that is even the slightest bit critical.

Kelly

The owner obviously is in over her head. Makes you wonder why people hang on. There are way too many people that make this stuff (just look on Etsy & FB) to wait on this woman to make her products and to settle for excuses and lousy CS. She does this because the customers allow it to continue. People seem to forget that their money is good ANYWHERE. Why allow crappy businesses in keep making money?

Angel

Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who thought some of her excuses were unprofessional and a little unbelievable. I would trade my real world problems for her “problems”.

Crystal

I’ve had the same issue – I subscribed, was promptly charged, was charged again the following month, and then the 3rd month was told that my monthly renewal was coming – I had to threaten legal action before I received my refund and my sub was cancelled. I never received one single thing. I still shudder to think that they have my credit card number on file.

katie

Good review! I do agree that this should be about a $20 sub.

This honestly seems like a rip off, about $45 for these 4 things? Yikes

Sandra

Wow, that’s really not a lot of stuff for the price. And aren’t their bath frostings their flagship product? Where’s the bath frosting?

A cute box but I’d pay $15 to $20 for it, maybe. I could easily rub brown sugar on my lips for the same effect (and have as it works great). The shave soap looked amazing.

Kathy

Agreed. I’m sure these are some quality products but after reading the review I’d expect the box to be $15-25
