This month’s box is the Travel Diva Edition and is all about expanding our horizons and learning about different cultures as we travel in convenience and style.

Light & Love Tee - Listed Value $25
This radiant tee features a soulful black woman in all her Afro glory. Branded Izzy & Liv, this bright shirt gave me serious spring vibes. Accepting natural hairstyles and textures is still a struggle within and outside of black communities even today. I love how this shirt creates a sense of pride regarding textured and curly hair as this beautiful woman rocks her natural crown. My one recommendation — order a size up as this brilliant tee runs small and is 100% cotton.

Reign or Shine Umbrella - Listed Value $30
This 21” patterned umbrella is a Brown Sugar Box exclusive, with a non-slip rubber handle, convenient push button open and close, full UV ray protection, and a matching pouch. Subscribers could’ve received one of four prints: Nubian Queens, Cultured Queens, Pretty Patterns, or Brown Sugar Sunshine. I received Cultured Queens, and I have to say, I am excited about it! With the promise of April showers and bright spring/summer sun, this product puts the box right on trend with spring. This compact (11” closed) travel-friendly umbrella also fits perfectly with this month’s “Travel Diva Edition” theme.

Black Girl Illustrated Versatile Scarf - Listed Value $25
This versatile scarf made of 80% silk and 20% polyester. You can wrap your luscious locks to keep your curls intact at night or make it a trendy statement piece around your neck as a scarf. Subscribers could’ve received one of three patterns: Motherland Magic, Cultured Queens, or Brown Sugar Sunshine. I received Brown Sugar Sunshine! I myself always wrap my hair at night, so this product will be incredibly useful to me! Practicality is something I value when it comes to subscription boxes. A lot of things you’ll receive may be luxury items or less practical, which is great. But a product like this is grounded in reality and will become a nighttime staple for me and the 7-11 cashier who will see it on my late-night snack runs.

Zipped & Ready Travel Toiletry Bag - Listed Value $25
This compact, colorful, and waterproof Izzy & Liv toiletry bag has multiple compartments for makeup, toiletries, and other travel necessities. This product becomes compact for convenient storage but expands to hold everything you’ll need for summer adventures. The bag zips shut to ensure you don’t lose anything important in transit and it’s also waterproof to prevent any damage in case of a snorkeling incident. There’s also a handy little hook at the top to hang the bag while you rummage through. Subscribers could’ve received one of two colors: a bold blue or a bright pink. I received blue. I think this product will come in handy, especially as I travel for work quite frequently. What I personally could do without is the branding on the front, but I’m one of those people who prefers a plain color or pattern instead of a company logo.

“Wheels Up” 2-Pack Luggage Cover Set - Listed Value $25
These stretchable luggage covers came in a set of two that included a size small (24") and medium (27"). You can easily brighten up or protect your luggage with these stretchy fabric covers. Subscribers could’ve received one of three prints: Divine Diva, Cultured Queens, or World Renowned. I received Divine Diva. I’ll admit this product was a bit confusing; it looks similar to a toddler’s onesie that you have to wrangle onto your suitcase. I’m sure some people have very nice luggage they’re looking to protect but mine already has dents and dings, so I probably will forgo this process in my future travels.
The Verdict: This is my first ever Brown Sugar Box and I think it was great! The theme was on point with the season and everything inside was trendy and related to travel. The mission behind this box is also incredibly powerful. Supporting black-owned businesses, designers, and creators who are also women is AMAZING! As far as the quality of the enclosed products, some things, especially the suitcase cover and toiletry bag, felt cheaply made. I personally wouldn't purchase either item at the listed retail price. The listed values of everything seemed slightly inflated to me but for a $45.90 box, with each item costing approximately $9.18, I would say this box was a good value overall.
My absolute favorite product in this box has to be the Reign or Shine Umbrella. Lots of umbrellas out there are really large, bulky, and inconvenient to carry around. This not only beautiful but compact and transportable umbrella is perfect! The Black Girl Illustrated Versatile Scarf is very practical and useful; I will definitely enjoy it. I wasn’t a fan of the “Wheels Up” 2-Pack Luggage Cover Set simply because my luggage isn’t of a caliber that needs this extensive protection, as well as it is an added step within an already complicated packing process. The Zipped & Ready Travel Toiletry Bag is definitely something I will use but I would’ve loved it without the heavy branding. I’m a huge fan of the Light & Love tee; I love the design and the color. The umbrella, scarf, and T-shirt definitely make this box worth it for me!
