Creepy Crate "Journey to the Dark Side" February/March 2020 Review
This box’s selections are taking us on a journey to the dark side with absolutely ghoulish goodies only Creepy Crate could provide!
Voices in the Snow by Darcy Coates — Retail Value $14.99 (found here for $13.19)
I was not familar with Darcy Coates 'til receiving this month's Creepy Crate. Ms. Coates is a best selling horror author, and her latest book is another chilling and suspense read. It is a story about Clare who recalls "quiet spots" as well as abandoned cars and children's toys. She vaguely remembers spending a casual Sunday at her home. That is until she finds herself at a stranger's Gothic home, after her "accident." I strongly suggest this book if you like a good, creepy read!
I <3 Derry T-Shirt, size large — Estimated Value $20 (similar shirts found at Creepy Crate's store for $20)
If you love Stephen King's classic novel, IT, or the mini-series or movies of the same title-- you will love this shirt! This T-shirt is made of a very stiff cotton material with some stretch. Wear this top to let others know you are a fan of all that is Pennywise and The Losers Club!
Zodiac Memo Book — Estimated Value $10 (similar stationery found at Creepy Crate's store for $10)
If you are a big true crime buff like myself, then you will recognize the cipher by the Zodiac Killer on the front cover. I go to the Bay Area every summer, so this particular item has additional meaning to me. The notebook is small enough to fit in one's purse or bag for you to jot down ideas in on the go.
Sleep My Child by John Coston eBook — Retail Value $19.99 (found here for $11.33)
Unlike most Creepy Crate boxes, the paper including info for eBook access was not included. Instead, Creepy Crate emailed it to their subscribers. Speaking of true crimes from earlier, I was incredibly excited to get this book in the February/March box! The book is about Ellen Boehm, a single mom from St. Louis, that seemingly is a doting mother. Greed and desperation lead this loving mom to killing two of her sons and nearly murdering her daughter for almost $100,000 dollars for life insurance claims from multiple insurance companies. This book will break your heart knowing real children suffered at the hands of their own mother, but it is a fascinating read none the less.
Flying Book of Death Enamel Pin
This spooky pin will be a great addition to any creepy collection. It comes with a push back clasp to secure the pin in place. Wear this on your favorite jean jacket, tote bag, or backpack to let people know you have spooky good taste!
The Undead Horde Keychain
Well, this is one creepy keychain. Before I read the description, I thought this was a keychain of hanging men slightly more macabre than that of the zombies it is actually meant to portray. The charms on this keyring are rather lightweight. Use it as a key ring, or attach it to a zipper pull on a purse for a decorative statement.
Dice of Death
Holy smokes, how cool is this dice! I love the skeletons on this die and how they look like they're carved out. This is a fairly light, solid plastic die. Each dot is that of a skull. The only negative? It appears I received one of two dice. I didn't realize this 'til reading the card and haven't reached out to Creepy Crate yet on the matter, but they have always provided great customer service and I sense this situation would be no different.
Verdict: Creepy Crate continues to deliver scares all year long! My favorite items this month were Zodiac Memo book, Sleep, My Child, Forever eBook, and the skull die. The boxes are curated so thoughtfully, this is the perfect gift for any of your spooky friends! I truly feel that for the price of $39.99, you get a killer deal! The items in this box that I had prices on retail up to $64.98 and you can’t beat that with a stick (or an ax in the case of Jack Torrance)!
