Scent Box March 2020 Review

This month, I received Scent Box’s “Scent of the Month.”

The information card usually has a little information about the men’s scent of the month on one side and the women’s on the other side. Based on the information card and past experiences with the brand, this one seemed promising.

In case I have not mentioned it in the past, you get a new holder every month and the fragrance is printed on a sticker on the bottom, and the holders tend to be different colors each month, so you can still keep them sorted out.

On to the fragrance:

I Am Juicy Couture by Juicy Couture - Estimated Value $7.68 (Buy 100 mL for $96)

Base notes include cashmere wood, amber, and musk, which is usually a good combination for me, and all three are fairly strong and distinguishable after a few minutes of wear.

Mid notes include gardenia, heliotrope, sweet pea, and rose, but I don't find this overly floral, even after a short time. Yes, there are floral notes there, and this is even described as a "fruity floral" fragrance, but the individual flowers kind of blend together and sink into the base notes and I think it works. There's something about the combination that's very sweet, which is actually a feature I like a lot.

Top notes include raspberry, pomelo, and passionfruit. I'm not sure that I'd recognize passionfruit on its own, but what I *think* is passionfruit is reasonably prominent. This is not a citrus scent on me. At all.

Anyway, one other thing I wanted to mention is that even though this is not an expensive fragrance, it is a current one -- you can buy it at Ulta and Sephora. It also happens to be one that I like. Longevity is about average (you'd want to reapply halfway through the day) and sillage is a little strong but not overwhelming.

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $7.68. That is only about half the cost of the subscription, but you can maximize your value (if that's the goal) by doing a little math and looking up retail values. I'm honestly just happy that I think it smells good, but of course everyone's body chemistry and taste in fragrances are different so your mileage may vary. I don't recognize the picture of the bottle on the information card so I don't think this is one I've tried before (I do have a full-sized bottle of another Juicy Couture fragrance that I also like so maybe it is just a good brand for me). At any rate, you do also get the holder and free exchanges if a scent doesn't work for you, and I think those things can add value as well. The different fragrance subscriptions have some differences (pricing tiers, number of fragrances available, opportunity to substitute other items, exchanges, holders, and so forth) and you kind of have to just do some investigating to see which one is right for you.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $7.68 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

I’ve been very happy with this sub so far. They bill when they say they’re going to bill and ship when they say they’re going to ship. (Well, I realize that might change temporarily with the epidemic…) They have a nice selection, too.

I’m 3 months into this subscription and after the first month my husband wanted in. We have both been enjoying a new scent each month. I pick ours and love to see what my husband thinks. I love their smart filter as you choose scents based on seasons (spring, summer, fall, winter) as we are both seasonal people. fyi- you can reuse the diffuser. I’ve been adding together some sample perfumes I’ve received from other boxes.

Hi Ragan, thank you for another interesting and thorough review. I feel like I’m a bit of a perfume snob. When I read ‘Juicy Couture’ I can’t help but think of Paris Hilton, tracksuits and Von Dutch trucker hats and it kind of makes me veer away from that section of the fragrance aisle. I’m so glad you’re always ready for your next perfume adventure without prejudice, cos I might just test those JC fragrances next time I’m near a tester. You made this one sound like it’s worth a try. Hope you are staying well during these tough times.

I actually found that I liked an Ariana Grande fragrance last month…but I actually have liked a lot of JC fragrances.

The only time anyone ever asks what I am wearing it is usually Tom Ford Black Orchid which of course is not embarrassing to admit. Though these days I am not wearing perfume, or makeup, or getting out of my PJs, or brushing my hair…(don’t worry about me, working from home, still get full salary).

I’m wearing more makeup and perfume these recent days. I can experiment with color and no one complains that I’m wearing too much perfume.

I was a snob about celebrity/teen-appealing perfumes, but I let that go. What matters is the juice inside the bottle.

I loved scent box when I had it, and their exchanges are super easy and quick. If I were to get fragrances again I would choose sent box over scent bird.
