Sweet Sparkle February 2020 Review

Sweet Sparkle didn't include an info sheet for me this month, but they usually have one with the products and their prices listed.

be a bombshell baked blush in First Class – Retail Value $12

Unfortunately, be a bombshell has never wowed me with any of their products. On a lighter note, I don't have anything too negative to say about this blush. It applied evenly and created a youthful flush on my cheeks. This blusher is dark, and even for a baked blush, it applied a lot of pigment, so I would suggest tapping off excess powder from your brush before applying to your face.

Luna by Luna Eyeshadow in Plum - Retail Value $15.00

This soft shadow is a lovely light plum shimmer. I love this for a wearable, all over the lid shade, and it also has decent staying power. This is actually a repeat product from March 2019 Sweet Sparkle Box, which is kind of disappointing. I have the one from last year packed away in my travel bag for an easy one-step shadow look on-the-go, so I will likely give this one away.

Bang Beauty Precise Eyeliner - Retail Value $20

Another black eyeliner! I am hooked on the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, which has been my go-to for several years now. This felt tip liner is too rigid for me to get a steady line, but I am sure a more advanced artist could pull it off. The formula is one that lasts for most of the day, but I did notice some smearing where my cat eye was once drawn.

Cosmakery Liquid Matte Lipwares in Nola - Retail Value $22

Dry winter lips are not inviting to matte liquid lipsticks. This formula was extra sticky, and it took a long time to dry down. I didn't like the way this made my lips feel, and I certainly wasn't a fan of the very '90s color they sent. It looks like Sweet Sparkle is carrying the old packaging of this product, whereas if you go to Cosmakery's website, you'll find a much chicer tube for the same price.

Kocostar Slice Mask Sheet  - Retail Value $5

This mask is a revolutionary product! I've never seen a sheet mask with individual pieces, but I love the idea and had a lot of fun with this product. Multi-masking is a smart way to target different sections of your face with different needs, and you'd finally be able to accomplish that with this kind of sheet mask. This particular version was cucumber scented, and the fragrance didn't seem to irritate my skin. The mask made my skin feel hydrated and soft, and I am tempted to try different slices so I can layer them all over my face.

Swatches of the makeup (top to bottom): be a bombshell Baked Blush in First Class, Luna by Luna Eyeshadow in Plum, Cosmakery Matte Lip in Nola, Bang Beauty Eyeliner in Black

Here is the look I came up with using all of the products from this month’s box. Everything performed fine enough for a few hours wear, but I really don't like this lip color or finish.

Verdict: February's Sweet Sparkle wasn't my favorite curation. I am not a huge fan of be a bombshell or Bang Beauty, and I already have the Luna by Luna eyeshadow from last March's box. I did, however, love the Kocostar Mask slices, which was a completely new product for me. This month’s retail value came to $74; that is almost triple the box cost, which is a good value, although I wasn't really excited about most of the items this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Your first box will be the current month’s box. So if you sign up in the month of March, you will get the March box, etc.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

i’ve never heard of this box, but interesting collaboration.
what is the best eyeliner and mascara, in everyone’s opinion for all the dozens we have sampled? i do like the kat von d as well, but of all the mascaras i’ve received, i really don’t have a favorite and would love to read some recommendations. thanks!

My favorite mascara is the Ciate London Wonderwand Mascara. I have tried so many different mascaras in the past year and I always go back to the Ciate. I have long lashes and it separates and holds curl well. I’ve never had any problems with flaking. My only complaint would be that I wish it was darker. I like a very deep black mascara so it stands out over some shades of eyeshadow I use.

My favorite eyeliner is hands down the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner – Micro Tip. It’s hands down the best I’ve used over shimmer or glitter shadows. Plus I love the micro tip! It makes everything so much easier. Especially fixing any mistakes. I also really like the Seraphine Botanicals Liquid Coal Waterproof Eyeliner. It’s the best waterproof eyeliner I’ve ever used. It doesn’t budge. My only complaint with the Stila is if your eyes water before it sets it will run. It’s an easy fix though.

I’ve seen so many good recommendations on this thread (Wander, Milk’s Kush Mascara & Essence, especially!!), but I have to add:
Benefit Roller Lash & Bad Gal Bang — length & curl
Stila’s Magnum XXX and Too Faced’s Damn Girl — great for volume!
Pretty much all of Tarte’s mascaras are amazing, too! All great picks depending on your lash needs.

I really love MILK’s kush mascara. Most mascara feels heavy on my eyelids and drives me nuts. Really nuts. But I hardly notice Milks and I believe it washes off with water. It is the free birthday gift at sephora right now, or MILK.com often gives it out with a purchase.

thank you! i have tried so many mascaras that are heavy, clump so easily, and i dreamed of having those gorgeous lashes you see, well everywhere. i have always wondered as well if a primer would help but im not sure if that would make it heavier, but thank you for this recommendation. i’m excited to try all these out!

If you’re looking to try something with a very reasonable price, Essence lash princess mascara is excellent. I buy it at Ulta. (Tarte Lights Camera Lashes used to be my favorite, but Essence is nearly as good and 1/4 of the price!)

oh, i love a deal! i have been shopping at ulta a lot more, i was such a sephora girl for years and i will look into this as well! love all these recommendations!

I like the Milk Kush mascara (I use the waterproof version). It’s one of the few mascaras I’ve tried that actually does make my lashes look longer + a little thicker. I think some of the promotional photos scared people off with the spider-leg look, but if you keep it to one light coat, it looks nice!

thank you, i am in the few that love spiders, not so much that i would have one as a pet but i will definitely check it out.

Dhl eyeliner from glossy box was my face for a while and girlactic liner from ipsy has been awesome as a $3 add on! I agree with everyone a out the thrive mascara. Its amazing! I also like wander beauty mascara surprisingly enough. It goes on wetter than most so it doesnt irritate me when it dries down.

thank you for the eyeliner recommendation as well! i really would love a great liquid eyeliner and i just don’t want to buy one of those kits with 6 mascara samples bc i get so many between all the boxes i subscribe. i am much more of a skin care expertise than makeup, but i do love it all.

Kathy

Oh and I sampled tarte’s tarteist lash paint mascara a few years back. I remember I LOVED it at the time and was sad when my sample ran out. Haven’t tried it since then. The brush was harder than other mascara brushes I’ve used before and I almost poked my eye out a few times tho lol

lol well, even though i lie on all my beauty profiles and say i’m a pro at makeup application, i am far from it, and this could result in a cyclops situation.

Kathy

I like Thrive Cosmetics Liquid Lash Extensions mascara. I got it in ipsy. It coats my lashes well and doesn’t clump. My only problem is I have straight lashes (curling them makes them look like bent plastic straws, unfortunately) and the straight brush that comes with the mascara doesn’t encourage a curl

thank you! I’m definitely going to try this. i have short eyelashes that don’t curl either, love reading all these recommendations.
