This month's theme is called Festival Vibes and April is the perfect month for a festival. Too bad we can't enjoy an outdoor festival but we can always bring a fun festival to our homes. Let’s jump right in and see what BoxyCharm has in store this month.
Our very first product in this month’s box is the Lavish Neon 5 Piece Brush Set. It is a very colorful set that includes five different brushes for creating wonderful and precise eye looks. Let’s break it down and see exactly what each brush is used for.
- The hot pink brush is a tapered blending brush that helps to blend and soften any harsh lines. I love a good tapered brush because it creates such a smooth finish.
- The blue brush is the eye shading brush, and this brush is very dense and compact. It helps to add eyeshadow across your lid and into the crease. Because it's very compact it picks up any eye shadow easily.
- The hot orange brush is what you call a pencil brush; this brush is ideal for softening or smoking out liner. It's also great for adding highlights in the inner corners of your eyes or under your brow bone.
- The hot yellow brush is a fine liner brush. This particular brush is perfect for adding gel, cream, liquid products or a favorite liquid lipstick. Whatever you choose to use it for, it will be precise using a brush like this.
- The neon green brush is a two-sided brow grooming brush. This brush helps to apply your powder or gel eyebrow products. It helps to brush and tame your brows. I will be testing this particular brush out later.
All five brushes seem to be very soft, easy to hold, and made with sturdy material. I love the colors and can not wait to test these out at a later time. I will not be creating a makeup look for this month's box, I’m only testing out the products and seeing how well they perform.
Our next product is from the well known Benefit Cosmetics and it's their very popular and awesome face primer. First off, I’m a primer junkie to begin with, however, I can not tell you how excited I was to see this product in this month's box. I have been a huge fan ever since this product came out years ago. I have tried almost every primer under the sun but I always come back to my good ol' faithful, and that is The Porefessional Face Primer. It's made to minimize the look of your pores while the vitamin E helps to protect your skin from anything harmful that may be in your foundation. What I love about this product the most is how it really does minimize your pores while leaving your skin feeling super smooth.
I can honestly say, it's one of the BEST primers on the market hands down! I have very oily skin and this product helps to keep my oil at bay. Although it has a slight tan color it goes on translucent. I honestly can't say anything negative when it comes to this product. You can wear this under your makeup or alone and you will get amazing results either way. I would definitely recommend this primer to anyone, even those with sensitive skin.
I added the primer on my forehead, cheeks, tip of the nose, and chin. I then spread the product around using my fingertips. The smell is very pleasant and instantly my skin looks and feels smooth.
Here is how my skin looks wearing nothing but the primer. If you look at the picture before this, you can see how oily my skin was. This primer literally sucked up all the oil, leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth.
Going back to our first product, I will now be using the green two-ended brow grooming brush to fill in my brows. Again I will not be creating a makeup look this month, I’m only testing the items that we received. I started with the brush side of the brush and began to brush my brows in the direction I wanted them to go. It's a pretty sturdy brush and felt good in my hand.
I then flipped the brush in the opposite direction and used the angled brush side to fill in my brows with my brow gel. I found the angled brush easy to use and it filled in my brows well. My only complaint is how soft it is. Its softness made it pretty difficult to create hair-like strokes, especially when it comes to creating the tail ends of my brows. I'm sure everyone has their own preference when it comes to soft vs stiff brow tools, otherwise it's a pretty good brow tool.
Here is how my brows look all filled in using the two-sided brow grooming brush.
Moving on to our next product, we have a sponge set from Hank & Henry Cosmetics. It's their Midori Beauty Sponge Bundle. These loud, neon greenish/yellow sponges are unique when it comes to their shape, much different than what I’m used to seeing in a beauty sponge. They are made and designed to be versatile all-over sponges. They are specifically made for liquid or cream application. They can be used damp for a sheer application, or dry for a full coverage application.
I decided to start with the smaller sponge. I added concealer under both eyes, nose, and my forehead. The smaller sponge is great for getting in those tiny corners around my nose and in the corners of my eye.
Here is how the smaller sponge blended out my concealer. I think it did an ok job in blending the concealer out, and its tiny size was helpful in getting in those tight spots.
I used the larger sponge for adding my foundation and at first the square shape felt kind of weird but after a while, it wasn't so hard to get used to. I chose to wet the sponge for a more sheer look. I like how the square part tapped in the liquid foundation on my cheeks and forehead area.
Here is how my foundation looks after blending it out with the larger sponge. I don't see much difference in how it performed compared to my other sponges, which is a good thing. Both sponges did an ok job at blending out the product well. The only difference is that these sponges are a lot more stiff than what I’m used to using, and the weird shape will need some getting used to. Needless to say I can definitely see myself reaching for these from time to time.
Our next product is something I have been wanting to try out for years now, but just never purchased one for myself. It's the Original Makeup Eraser. I have seen this product advertised on TV, YouTube, and blogs everywhere. The claims are pretty hard to believe. This product exfoliates and erases all traces of makeup with nothing but water! No more makeup wipes or harsh chemicals to remove your makeup. It even takes off mascara, eyeliner, foundation, lipsticks, and even glitter. It's a patented cloth with hair-like fibers that work together as a “suction” for dirt and makeup.
It's super soft and if this product does exactly what it claims, that would be awesome because I wouldn’t be using any chemicals to remove makeup from my face. It’s equal to 3,600 makeup wipes, and all I have to do is rewash it and it's supposed to last for up to 3 to 5 years. With these claims, I must admit I’m pretty skeptical. Let’s not waste any more time testing this product out!I love how the box feels like an actual eraser—wow, how cool is that! I took the towel out and I received the color sunset. It's so pretty I almost hate to ruin it with makeup stains lol.
I wet the cloth with warm water and rung it out. I then began to wipe my face and my makeup started to come off, however I had to use force. It wasn’t long before I realized something was wrong.
When I looked in the mirror I saw tons of white fibers all over my face! I stopped and realized that due to my excitement I failed to read the small paper inside of the box. This small slip of paper has directions in 3 easy steps. You are supposed to wash it in the washing machine before using it the first time. Please don’t make the same mistake I did and end up looking like an April Easter bunny. It took me three face washes to remove all those fibers.
It's day number two and I have washed my Makeup Eraser cloth in the washing machine as the directions indicate. I let the towel sit a few minutes in warm water and began to remove my makeup again. Wow! What a difference, this product really does work. The shorter side helps to get the hard stuff like eyeliner, mascara, etc. The longer side was the side I used to exfoliate. I had to re-dip the towel a few times in the water but it did remove all my makeup. My only complaint is, even though my makeup was gone it still didn't feel like my face was clean. I used a little witch hazel on a cotton ball afterwards just to get that clean feeling.
Our last product is from Elemis. It's their Superfood Cica Calm Hydration Juice. We have received many items from this brand before and most of the products work really well. This is a product with tons of vitamins. There is 75% organic aloe that makes this gel moisturizer so hydrating. The cool gel helps to soothe even the most sensitive skin. This product also helps improve the look of skin texture and even helps to balance your complexion. It can be worn under makeup, or alone.
I only used a few drops and smoothed it out using clean, dry fingertips. I felt the cool and calm hydration to my skin almost immediately. I fell in love with this product after just one use. It feels amazing to my skin.
Verdict: This month's BoxyCharm was pretty decent if you ask me. To be honest, I would have wanted this box for the primer alone, that's how much I love that product. I hope you guys found this review easy to follow and I hope you loved the products as much as I did.
