BoxyCharm March 2020 Tutorial + Review
This month's BoxyCharm theme is called “ Pretty Edgy,” and when you see the eyeshadow palette we are getting you will see why they named it edgy. I can't wait to see what else is inside this month's BoxyCharm, so let's get to it!
- QMS MediCosmetics Lip Line Corrector
- Farmacy Beauty Cherry Cleansing Balm
- Hank & Henry Beauty Living In Color Palette
- BECCA Ultimate Lip Definer
- Appeal Ultra Creme Lipstick
Last month, BoxyCharm sent us an eye cream from this brand and this month we received another skincare product. The QMS Lip Line Corrector is a high-performance serum that is made to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the lip area. Sometimes people refer to these as laugh lines as well. It’s formulated to also plump the lines around your mouth and give it a more youthful appearance. Who doesn't want to appear more youthful? I know I do. I pumped a very small amount on a Q-tip and spread it around my mouth area. I did not notice any scent which is good for a product like this. The wakame seed extract in this serum is made to help instantly smooth your upper lip area. I didn’t notice any tightness or tingle when I used the product and I hope to see results after using it for a while.
Our next product is an eyeshadow palette from the brand Hank & Henry. I don't have too many products from this brand, only the few items that BoxyCharm has sent us in the past. This is their Living In Color palette and the name fits perfectly because there are nine gorgeous shades. There are four mattes and five glitter shades. This particular palette is inspired by the late '90s and early 2000s, back when MySpace was a big hit. If you can't remember MySpace then you may be too young to even wear makeup, LOL. I was glad to get a palette with fun shades because the possibilities are endless. I wanted to create a simple look using only four shades from this palette and a black matte shade not in the palette. Let’s jump right into this look.
First I took a fluffy brush and added the shade Rustiege to my entire lid. This is a matte rustic orange and I thought it would be the perfect transition shade.
Here is how that shade looks alone, there was a tiny bit of fallout but not much.
Next I took the same brush and added the shade Drag Gun Blood which is a dark brown matte shade and placed it right in my crease area. I blended this shade using windshield wiper motions going back and forth until I got the deep color I wanted.
Here is how both shades look together.
Next I took a small flat brush and wet it, then I placed the glitter shade Pettycock on my lids. This color looks and performs amazingly when you add water to your brush.
Here is how that glitter shade looks on both lids.
Next I wet my finger and grabbed the shade La Canela.
Using my finger I placed the shade right above Pettycock across my lids.
To finalize this look, I took another fluffy brush and added a black matte shade from another palette in the outer corners of my eyes.
Next I took a clean medium-sized fluffy brush to clean things up. Using this clean brush, I blended out the shade La Canela and added a bit more of the shade Pettycock because I lost it a bit. It's very normal when creating eye looks with several shades to go back in and repeat steps that may get lost in transition.
Here is how my eye look turned out. I love how highly pigmented these shades were. They also blend together beautifully, making it easy to create fun looks. If I could find a way to use all the shades in one look I probably would. One thing I did notice is that I lost my blue shade on my top lids. The particular shade just did not hold like the others did.
Before moving on to our next product I added primer, foundation, black eyeliner, two coats of black mascara, black eyeliner, filled in my brows and added plenty of setting powder for a smooth look to my skin. Our next product is a lip liner from BECCA Cosmetics. I have only used highlighters from this brand and not much else. This is BECCA's Ultimate Lip Definer in the shade Breezy. It is a very light brown tan shade.
These lip liners are high impact shades that last up to eight hours. They are also made to contour and define your lips using a balance of color and precision. The first two things I noticed when I applied this to my lips were, it is a very smooth and creamy formula that glides on effortlessly. The second thing I noticed is that this shade is not for me.
Here is how it looks on my lips. It may not work well on my lips but I could definitely use this as an eyeliner. Nonetheless, it's a great product that I would love to try in another shade.
Our next product is a lipstick from the brand Appeal Cosmetics. It's their ultra creme lipstick and I received the shade Naked. It's a beautiful nude shade that has a satin finish. These creme lipsticks are supposed to glide on and remain comfortable all day! They are rich in color and I also love the unique gold packaging.
I knew that by looking at the shade, I would have to use this shade with another lipstick in order to make this shade work for me. So I decided to create an ombré lip using NARS Powermatte lip pigment in the shade Starwoman. It's a very bright red that should match well with the Appeal lipstick. I placed the Appeal lip color right in the center of my lips and I absolutely love the two together. This completes my makeup look. Too bad I won't be able to enjoy this look for too long, because with our final product it's now time to take it all off.
Our final product is from a brand called Farmacy and they have created this product exclusively for BoxyCharm. It’s their Very Cherry Clean Makeup Melt Away Cleansing Balm. As much as I love makeup, I also love a good cleansing balm to help me remove it. These balms make taking your makeup off super easy. Before I found melting balms it took me a lot more time to remove my makeup. I have tried several of these melt-away balms and have yet to be disappointed so I am dying to give this one a try. I happen to own the Farmacy Green Clean makeup cleansing balm and if this is the same formula, I know I will love it. This particular balm literally melts all traces of makeup.
These balms are simple to use and a tiny bit goes a long way, so with a jar this size it’s unlikely you’ll run out any time soon. I took the spatula provided and placed the balm on my forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks.
I then wet my fingertips and began to work the product into my skin. The cherry scent is strong and I found it pleasant and not too overwhelming.
As you can see it has removed all my makeup and my favorite part is how it leaves my skin feeling smooth and non-greasy. Another point to make is it only took one application in order to remove all my makeup. No more wasting four or five makeup remover wipes. I also love how gentle it is, making it safe for all skin types. It really does remove everything, even the hard to deal with mascara, glitter shades, lipstick, and eyeliner. I really have no cons when it comes to this product; I absolutely love this stuff and would recommend it to all makeup lovers.
Verdict: This month's BoxyCharm was not disappointing. I love to receive makeup and skincare products in one box. I enjoyed the eyeshadow palette but if I had to choose one product that stood out to me the most, it would definitely be the Farmacy makeup removing balm. I love products that make my life easier and this product really does that. What was your favorite item in this month's box?
