Culture Carton 'SA.AL Skincare Box' Review - February 2020
Culture Carton comes with a card that announces the theme (which is the brand of skincare included) along with a list of the items inside and their values. There's also a code to get 40% off their whole shop. The second is a welcome card that explains how Apollo is the inspiration for this subscription since he was essentially thought to be "the god of culture."
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby - Retail Value $16.00
I am not kidding when I say that I jumped for joy when I saw this book in the box. I had JUST watched the new Hulu show adaptation of this book since it's one of my favorite movies. I was just telling Kurt that we need to watch the movie since he had never seen it before! I have never read the book, so while this is a box for Kurt, I may have to steal it once he's done. If you're a music fan or record collector, this story is a must, no matter what format you watch/read. I'm excited for Kurt to dive into this one, amidst all of the British slang and relationship talk.
From Amazon:
Rob is a pop music junkie who runs his own semi-failing record store. His girlfriend, Laura, has just left him for the guy upstairs, and Rob is both miserable and relieved. After all, could he have spent his life with someone who has a bad record collection? Rob seeks refuge in the company of the offbeat clerks at his store, who endlessly review their top five films; top five Elvis Costello songs; top five episodes of Cheers.
Rob tries dating a singer, but maybe it’s just that he’s always wanted to sleep with someone who has a record contract. Then he sees Laura again. And Rob begins to think that life with kids, marriage, barbecues, and soft rock CDs might not be so bad.
SA.AL & Co. 021 Shaving Creme - Retail Value $26.22 (€24.00)
Kurt isn't a fan of going too long without shaving and has never sported a full beard even though he can grow what looks like a fierce one. I must admit, after a few days of him going without shaving, his facial hair does start to get pretty painful on my end when giving him a smooch. He said he had to get used to the minimal lather but that it gave a nice clean shave.
SA.AL & Co. 031 Light Moisturizer and After Shave Balm - Retail Value $34.96 (€32.00)
Upon seeing that the box was also filled with skincare, I couldn't help but think that Culture Carton was reading my mind! I've been trying to gently nudge Kurt to use more skincare products since he can be a little dry in these colder months. This moisturizer is also packaged as a dual-use shave balm to soothe the skin after shaving. Kurt said that using this after shaving with the cream made his face extra smooth, and I have to concur! His skin felt incredibly soft and I noticed it looked less dry as well!
SA.AL & Co. 011 Hair and Body Wash, travel size 2-pack - Retail Value $30.59 (€28.00)
These small travel hair and body wash bottles are great. Even though travel will be super limited to non-existent at the moment, I hold out hope that we can one day again be able to fly to different cities. These will come in handy when that day comes. In the meantime, Kurt gave this hair and body wash a whirl to see if it stood up to his picky hair care taste. He found this hair and body wash refreshing and said: "As a shampoo, it actually seemed like a good ‘rebalance’. One I’d use once or twice a week once my hair starts feeling weighed down." I personally think that the minty scent is super refreshing too and reminded me of face wash from Ursa Major.
The Verdict: Culture Carton really hit the mark for me this month and Kurt appreciated his new products! I love that this box can introduce him to new skincare and feed his love of books at the same time. The total retail value of the four products this month comes in at $107.77 which is double the cost of the box.
