Our Ipsy Glam Bag Ultimate April 2020 Review
We received a really detailed info booklet this month, which is great because I'd really missed this inclusion in previous months!
This month, our bag is blush and covered with abstract flowers. There are two round wooden ring pulls.
Now, on to the items!
Jules Smith Beauty Power 5 Shadow Palette - Full Size! Listed Value $28.00
Jules Smith is one of those brands that is very crystal centric, so you know I am intrigued. Each of these shadows references the strengths of certain crystals, such as rose quartz, pyrite, and amethyst. The pigment could be a little better, but they do look gorgeous with a little extra work. The shimmers lean much more on the 'frosted' sort of look, meaning these work really well for the '90s eyeshadow trend that is happening right now.
Very pretty!
YENSA CBD Superfood Dual Cleansing Oil, 5 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $38.00
I do love a cleansing oil! I tend to double cleanse each night, and I prefer to start with an oil-based cleanser on dry skin to really snatch up all the dirt and makeup from the day. This formula has CBD oil, an ingredient that I have noticed helps reduce my redness a little. It smells a lot like a green healthy food smoothie and is a medium weight oil texture. My face felt really clean but also soft after using this. I like to rub oil cleansers in small circles all over my face then wash them away, leaving my skin prepped for the next cleanser or even my night skincare routine.
Verso Dark Spot Fix, 0.5 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $150.00
In terms of $$$, this is the big ticket item this month. While I don't have any dark spots to really worry about right now, this formula has Retinol 8 (a stabilized vitamin A complex and anti-aging hero), niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid, all of which are awesome for your skin in general. I tried this out under my eyes and loved how moisturizing and brightening it was. Limiting myself to that area should also make this smaller bottle last longer too.
Ciaté London Triple Shot XXL Mascara, 8 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $22.00
This mascara gave my lashes extra length and volume, but I did notice little micro clumps. I find that this happens whenever I use fiber-based mascaras. I think my lashes are too straight and grow in weird directions which make fibrous formulas less than ideal for me. If you don't get too close though, they do indeed look great!
Trestique Mini Lip Glaze Set, 4 x 0.7 g - Listed Value $48.00
I have mixed feelings on these little glazes. I feel like they provide the same wash of sheer color as a tinted lip balm, but I kind of prefer a balm formula. I also felt like I really had to rub these back and forth over my lips over and over to get any real color payoff. I can't deny they are adorable though!
Left to right: English Rose, Georgia Peach, Paris Pink, and Shell Beach Sheer
RealHer Ultimate Glow Getter Palette - Full Size! Retail Value $28.00
This is a cute palette (I love the white marble design!). Inside there is a peachy pink blush, a soft medium brown bronzer, and a champagne highlighter. They are all really sheer and apply so naturally with a fluffy brush. Dare I say this is a bronzer shade I could get away with? Maybe! It worked as a cheekbone contour too. The blush is a perfect shade for spring and adds just a fresh youthful shade to the apples of my cheeks. The highlighter is also lovely, and creates a more dewy look than a shimmer when applied with a brush.
Left to right: Incredible (bronzer), Goddess (highlighter), and Blessed (blush)
Kensie 'Life Beat' Eau de Parfum, 20 ml - Retail Value $28.00
I think this is the first bottle of perfume I have ever gotten in an Ipsy bag! Though this scent isn't for me personally, I would LOVE to see more of this. This scent is a super feminine blend of flowers and fruit. My nose immediately picked up apples, peaches, and lemons, as well as rose and jasmine. There is also some musk in the dry down. I am not someone who really reaches for fruity scents, but if you are, then you might really love this! It is light, fun, and young: perfect for spring and summer.
Lavido 2 in 1 Purifying Facial Mask and Exfoliator, 50 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $36.00
This is a 2 part hybrid mask, which is nice if you want to get your exfoliation and a mask done in one step! This mask has a natural clay sort of scent that reminds me of a garden in a really good way. I applied it on my face, rubbing in circular motions to get the exfoliating part going. Then I let it dry for 15 minutes then rinsed off. This mask wasn't drying (thank you!!) and left my face feeling very soft and looking bright.
Space Case Fakecation Bronzer, 2.5 g
I guess springtime is the return of bronzers. I don't use them often, but I can appreciate this soft brown shade that would actually also make a gorgeous eyeshadow. The formula is soft and mostly matte, but I swear I can see a little shimmer in there too.
I think the shade is very pretty.
Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream, 7 ml - Estimated Value $12.60 (Buy a full-size 15 ml for $27.00)
This is a really light eye cream with a scent I can't quite place. It applies gently and absorbs well, with just a soft tapping motion under my eyes. The skin-loving ingredients inside include hyaluronic acid, cucumber oil, witch hazel, and arctic cloudberry. I didn't notice any big results after one night (other than hydration, which is a big bonus!) but I plan on trying this out for a little while longer.
Verb Ghost Hair Mask, 0.68 oz - Estimated Value $1.94 (Buy a full-size 6.3 oz for $18.00)
This mask is meant to be applied to damp hair after shampooing, left on for 5-7 minutes, then washed out. It has a fruity scent that I am not crazy about, but I did like the added shine it gave my locks. I also wish the sample would have been a little larger, because I only got one use out of this.
Dr. Ohkims+ Cica Peptide Cream, 15 ml oz
I love anything with cica because it helps my redness so much! This cream has a light and green scent and applies like a dream! It absorbs easily and leaves my face SO soft. And, you guessed it, less red too. I would be very happy to see this make future appearances in my Ipsy subs!
Verdict: It was hard to calculate the total value of this box because there were a few items I couldn't track down. Regardless, my calculations come out to around $392.54 even without a few items added in. That is quite the value for a $50 subscription. There were a lot of fun things inside this month, and my favorites were easily the YENSA CBD cleanser and the Dr. Ohkims Cica cream. I also loved the Verso dark spot cream, but more as an undereye sort of deal. All in all, the value was certainly here this month!
