Henny+Roo April 2020 Chicken Box Review
It's green outside! Loads to explore around the yard today.
Time to enjoy fresh blades of grass and open our new Henny+Roo box!
Our box comes complete with an info card explaining all of the items arriving this month.
Henny+Roo 3-in-1 Vitamins, Electrolytes, and Probiotics, 2 oz - Buy 5 packs for $20.95
Just like humans, chickens can use an extra electrolyte boost in hot weather! It just makes them feel better. This mix also contains extra vitamins and probiotics. I mixed this powder into the girls' water feeder and just let them do their own thing!
Wooden Hen Silhouette Home Decor - Retail Value $12.95
Occasionally this box sends a home decor item, and it is always pretty cute! This weathered wooden hen is a perfect addition to a country chic style mantle or bookshelf. The twine bow was a nice touch!
Flock Party Corn and Mealworm Cake - Retail Value $3.99
Satchel and Dizzy love these cakes, and I like them too because they are easy to hang inside the run for those times when we have spotted a hawk or some other time when we weren't completely comfortable leaving them outside alone. It allows them to peck and forage without leaving the safety of their run. This one has corn and mealworms, two treats that never last long around here.
Bobcat Urine Pee Shots - Buy 16 oz for $30.00
These flakes are literally saturated with bobcat urine. I 100% have not been brave enough to open this stuff up to see what it smells like, but whatever the scent is supposedly runs off vermin who like to hang around and chew through feed bags. Thankfully we don't have trouble with that, but a part of me wonders if it would also scare raccoons away. Products like this make me thankful we generally don't have predator or vermin issues!
Schreiner's Herbal Solution, 2 fl oz - Buy 4 oz for $9.15
This solution is an excellent topical treatment for cuts and scrapes. It contains aloe vera, myrrh, goldenseal, comfrey, cayenne and elder in an alcohol base. It also kind of smells great? I will be transferring it to a spray bottle to have ready for those summer chicken adventures.
Encore Poultry Grit Plus, 16 oz - Retail Value $6.95
Grit is really important because it helps the chickens break down all the vegetation they eat inside of their crop. My girls are long grass enthusiasts, so I always make sure to scatter grit around and add it to their food. This blend also has oyster shell for stronger egg shells, charcoal for healthy digestion, and anise to add an appealing scent.
Chicken Stickers - Retail Value $3.00
Who doesn't adore stickers? These are perfect for decorating the eggs you give to neighbors or even cute letters.
Laying Box Liner
Our last item comes in every box and is a super handy laying box liner. This helps keep your eggs clean after the hens leave them in the elevated boxes they use to lay. Since Satchel has decided she isn't done quite yet, these are really nice for her to lay eggs on.
Satchel is in the middle of some strangely scheduled molt, which is odd for her since she usually saves a molt for right before winter begins. She generally has bad timing.
Dizzy doesn't make fun of her current 'do though! She knows she is capable of looking a little unhinged herself.
See you next time!
The Verdict: Henny+Roo was great this month! Both the girls and I had loads of fun going through the items. This subscription is somehow able to make a box with both stickers and bobcat pee feel cohesive! I love the blend of treats, lifestyle items, and chicken safety/first aid I get to look forward to each month.
