Macy's Beauty Box April 2020 Review
Each box comes with a fold-out card detailing the items included, a pro tip, and your $5.00 beauty coupon code to be used at Macy's stores or online.
Caudalie Vinoperfect Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum, 0.33 fl oz – Estimated Value $26.07 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $79.00)
Caudalie is one of my favorite beauty brands (their Grape Water mist is one of my HG products!). I have tried this super light-weight serum before and also love it, so I appreciate this rather generous sample size. This serum is on the watery side, meaning a little goes a long way. It is also nicely moisturizing, and a perfect base for makeup, IMO. This is also a serum that is great for fading dark spots and brightening your complexion all over.
Elizabeth Arden Retinol Ceramide Capsules, 7 count - Estimated Value $11.20 (Buy a full-size 30 pack for $48.00)
These little capsules always feel so fancy! And who doesn't love a pre-portioned product? Inside is a heavier gel with anti-aging ceramides inside. This is the sort of formula that doesn't entirely absorb (at least not on my face) so I like to save these capsules for evening treatments. I always find there is way more than enough for just my face so I like to use the rest on my hands and neck, two other areas that I like to give a little anti-aging boost!
PÜR Lit Mist Illuminating Setting Spray, 0.06 fl oz - Estimated Value $0.36 (Buy a full-size 4 fl oz for $24.00)
I have mixed feelings about this setting spray, but some of that might stem from the fact that the mister on this sample just wasn't great and sprayed smaller bursts of this formula onto smaller areas of my face instead of a general light misting. It does give staying power to makeup and add a little radiance, but I would have to try out the actual full-size nozzle before I committed to this one.
Coola Tan Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum, 0.34 fl oz - Estimated Value $10.80 (Buy a full-size 1.7 fl oz for $54.00)
I absolutely love the Coola brand, but I am not into self-tanners. If I was though, I bet I would like this product. It is an anti-aging serum sort of gel with a light and natural tropical scent that I didn't hate.
Ahava Purifying Mud Mask, 0.68 fl oz - Estimated Value $7.00 (Buy a full-size 3.4 fl oz for $35.00)
Generally speaking, my skin is really dry. I tend to avoid clay masks but ever since I began working from home I feel really greasy, for no apparent reason. I have been using some clay masks as spot treatments, so this will find a home in that collection. I like that this is a mask I can leave on for just 2 minutes instead of longer, meaning I can get the purifying and oil-minimizing results without actually drying out my face.
Lancôme Idôle Le Parfum Coffret, 0.17 fl oz - Estimated Value $9.80 (Buy 1.7 fl oz for $98.00)
I actually quite like this perfume, though it is not something I would personally wear. It has really fresh and girly notes of roses, apples, pears, and a little musk. It is fun, easy, and uncomplicated. I tend to like odd scents on myself, but I think if I was near someone wearing this I would just love it. I also really like that a little coffret size was sent. This feels a lot more special than the normal fragrance spray samples.
COACH Dreams Eau de Parfum, 0.04 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.91 (Buy 1.3 fl oz for $62.00)
I don't generally vibe with tons of Coach perfumes, but there is something about this one I quite like. I think it is because it has a few desert sort of notes in there (cactus flower) as well as gardenia (a love of mine), fruits, powder, and a little wood. Although it doesn't really smell like Arizona by Proenza Schouler, they could certainly be cousins. I already own Arizona and do like it more, but this is a lighter and less complicated scent that I can see loads of people loving.
COACH FOR MEN Eau de Toilette, 0.06 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.01 (Buy 2 fl oz for $67.00)
Of course, I love this cologne so much more than the perfume. I, admittedly, wear quite a few men's fragrances. This one is a dream. Think ambergris, bergamot, some fruit, a little lavender, and a hint of leather. Yum. Totally fresh yet somehow like being in a fancy library. Count me in.
Hair Clips
Instead of a bag, this month arrived with two very cute hair clips. I have kind of been wanting to buy into this trend, but never actually bought myself any. I could absolutely see myself wearing either of these with a cute side part or keeping all my baby bangs in check while rocking a topknot.
Verdict: This Macy’s Beauty Box has an estimated value of $69.15 even without the hair clips, making this a really great value for a $15 bag. The only item I wasn't into was the self-tanner, but it is the season for such things, and everything else totally made up for it. I really loved that there were 3 perfumes and a coffret! I also thought the skincare brands and formulas were top notch. I actually think this is one of the best Macy's boxes yet, which makes the fact that it is now on hold even sadder. Fingers crossed for a someday return, right?
