MindWander "Keep Growing" April 2020 Review
"Keep Growing" Mini-Workbook - Listed Value $5.00
Each month arrives with a workbook, which is the intellectual meat of the box. It starts with a welcome statement from clinical psychologist Dr. Sarah. She briefly introduces the theme and purpose of the workbook and explains that the included strategies are grounded in a science-based therapy called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Item descriptions are listed on the next few pages.
This month's theme is around growth mindset, which is the belief that one's abilities and traits can be cultivated through effort. The idea was popularized by psychologist Carol Dweck, who's been researching these theories since the '80s. Studies have shown that developing a growth mindset can impact motivation, educational achievement, emotional development, and more, which brings us to the workbook!
The workbook is composed of an introduction into growth mindset as well as three sections that you can approach however you like. The first section offers strategies on how to identify and challenge fixed mindsets and develop growth mindsets. The second section offers tips on how to respond to setbacks. The last section encourages you to pass the wisdom of growth mindset to others. I'm excited to read through the workbook to grow my growth mindset!
"Keep Growing" Challenge Card Pack - Listed Value $5.00
This month's card pack is a little different from previous iterations. Half the cards contain motivational quotes and the other half are your usual journal prompts. While motivational quotes don't usually tickle my fancy, some of them were very relevant, such as "Progress, not perfection." I have a difficult time internalizing that one! A few cards have a date on them so that you can practice together with the MindWander community on their Facebook group.
Habit Tracker and Stickers - Listed Value $3.00
This habit tracker helps you incorporate a new desired behavior into a habit, while the stickers act as a reward and motivator. Like many others, my usual routine turned on its head recently, and my productivity suffered as a result. To combat that, I've been intentional about setting up more routine activities. I found that setting aside time in the morning to draft a daily task list makes the day run smoother. So, creating a task list every morning will be my new habit. Routine, check. Increased productivity, double check.
Dr Botanicals Moroccan Rose Superfood Facial Oil, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $19.90
This is a lightweight facial oil infused with vitamin E and almond oil. It has a sweet rose fragrance that's pleasant upon application and disappears quickly. My favorite thing about this facial oil is that it doesn't feel like a facial oil! It is truly lightweight, lacks that slippery feeling that oils have, and absorbs very quickly. I like to mix this oil with a moisturizer as one of the last steps of my nighttime routine. By the way, there's a typo on the bottle: it holds 0.5 oz, not 1.01 oz like the label suggests.
Modern Skyn Alchemy Neroli Flower Water, 2 fl oz - Retail Value $6.00
I've been on a mini quest to find the ideal toner for my oily skin. This one seemed like a good option. It contains three ingredients: water, organic orange blossom water, and dried orange blossoms. It has a watery consistency and absorbs quickly while leaving skin lightly hydrated. However, the fragrance is a dealbreaker. It's just too overpowering. Not to mention, the smell lingers for too long. I really wanted to like it... but it wasn't meant to be.
Inspirational Rollerball Pen - Listed Value $5.00
This rollerball pen adds some color to my ensemble of plain-looking writing instruments. The ink flows smoothly and doesn't smudge. Overall, no complaints. It complements the notepad, shown later in the review.
DW Home Palm Leaf + Moss Candle, 8.5 oz - Retail Value $18.00
This candle is described as "lush green palm leaves and tropical monstera blossoms accented with touches of rainforest vines, emerald fern and soft mosses." It's housed in heavy glass and topped with a metal lid. In the jar, the candle smells fresh, green, and mossy. As it burns, a warm floral note comes into prominence. While this is not something I would pick out for myself, I really enjoy the fragrance.
Soon Skincare Hydrating Blueberry Hydrogel Eye Patch, Retail Value $6.00
This is a set of under eye hydrogel patches designed for all skin types. I love the unusual periwinkle color! It makes skincare more fun, you know? The patches have an immediate cooling effect on my under eye. When I removed them after 20 minutes, my skin felt refreshed, hydrated, and even a bit plump. I definitely see myself buying more of these patches in the future.
She Thought She Could Notepad, Listed Value $7.50
This is a palm-sized notepad covered in peppy flowers and a motivational phrase on the front cover. The colors remind me of luscious springtime. I like that the elastic band holds the pages together so you can throw it into a bag with little worry. I'm still using the teal notebook from last month's box so this one will be saved for later.
The Verdict: This was a solid box. I enjoyed every single item with the exception of the toner. If I had to choose, my favorite would be the workbook! I've read about growth mindset in the past so it was a delight to see how I could apply the ideas to my own life. Based on listed and retail prices that were available, I received an estimated value of $75.40, which is about 1.7 times the cost of the box plus shipping.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. All new orders ship around the 4th of the following month, so you would receive the May box as your first.
