April 2020 Super Chewer "The Great Outside" Review
Each box arrives with an information card with details about the items included, as well as ideas on how to engage with your pup.
This month's theme is "The Great Outside," which is exactly where my pup loves to be! It's been such a cold and rainy spring, I've not been able to take him to the wooded areas of PA as much as I really would like, but thankfully, we have a nice big backyard that he likes to romp around in.
Super Chewer Peanut Butter and Carob Stick, 1.5 oz each (2 ct) - Retail Value $6 (Single sticks available here for $3/each)
There are times for treats, but when Archie has been an especially wonderful boy, I do enjoy giving him a nice stick to chomp on! I lovingly call them "chewies," and with all food-related lingo, he definitely knows what the word means! I received twin Peanut Butter-Carob sticks this month, which is fine by me. Archie gets lots of meat in his diet, and he loves peanut butter! These aren't crunchy like some of the other Super Chewer chews, but they're rather a harder chew. My only wish is that these kept my baby's chompers busy for just a little bit longer!
Reef Rod Toy
We received a really unique toy this month! This is a super-sturdy toy with a very hard texture, and the tag recommends outdoor play with this one. It would be great for a game of fetch, but Archie isn't awesome yet at returning the toy, haha. I really like the design of this toy, though - the harder texture is heaven for Archie's teeth, and the grooves make it super-easy for him to get his paws around it, like you can see in the photo!
Pork Recipe Dog Treats, 4.5 oz.
We put Archie through his paces this month for his treats! If you notice in the photos, we worked on "leave it" with these pork-flavored squares. As you may notice in the second photo, he is the goodest boy that absolutely ever lived, and he was able to enjoy these tasty morsels, which, like so many of the treats from Super Chewer tend to do, smelled like delicious human-grade jerky.
Treat Giver River Toy - Retail Value $14
There are some toys Arch takes an immediate shine to, and for some reason, he really went for this toy right away! I really love toys that work with treats, because they hold his interest for double the time. This design was unique because they stayed inside the toy for a nice long time, and Archie was busy for a good part of the afternoon! I try to get him moving around as much as possible, but I think puzzles are important, too. I like having things on-hand that exercise his brain, since he is a really smart dog.
Lamb Recipe Dog Treats, 4 oz.
The shape of these lamb-and-pear-flavored treats is perfect for the river toy! When we had the treats themselves, we continued to work with "leave it," with Arch, as you can see from the complete look of misery on my buddy's face. Archie actually loves fruit, especially apples, and he likes raw pear, too! Since I'm his mom, I think absolutely everything he does is adorable, but you gotta believe me, watching him cromch on pieces of apple and pear really is the cutest thing, as was watching him finally get to enjoy these tiny treats!
Verdict: As always, Super Chewer brought out a great theme with some super-interesting and delightful items! These pieces were a really nice reminder that better weather is coming, and hopefully my sweet boy and I will be able to hit some hiking trails really soon. In the meantime, we have The Great Backyard, and every warm night we get, I'm going to take these treats and toys out with us to spend some special time bonding together. I think that's what makes these boxes so special. I know I've mentioned it before, but what these boxes represent to me is time; time that I can actually take out of my day, my week, etc, and spend time having fun and playing with Archie. My relationship with him is so important to me, and every month, these toys and treats further develop our closeness.
