The Detox Box is a green beauty subscription box from The Detox Market that costs $55/month. You'll usually receive 2-3 products (although 5 this month) from a featured brand each month that follow their strict ingredient standards and help you discover non-toxic ways to continue your beauty routine. What I love about this subscription is that I can try popular and undiscovered brands alike at a really good value!
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Detox Box April 2020 Review
With this month's Detox Box, I received a single info card that details all of the sustainable items in the box.
Odacité 552M Shampoo Bar - Retail Value $29.00
I've never used a shampoo bar before but I have to say that I've been wanting to try one for quite some time to cut down on single-use plastics in my shower. This round bar yields roughly 50-80 washes depending on your hair length and thickness which is quite fantastic in my eyes. Once in the shower with my hair wet, I began to rub the bar directly onto my hair a few times and then proceeded to create a nice lather with my hands. The shampoo has a wonderful citrus lime scent to it and contains both argan and coconut oil which should be suitable for any hair type. Once properly massaged, I rinsed my hair to reveal a superbly clean state. I followed up with a conditioner to restore the softness afterward and once dry, I've been impressed with the results. I'm very pleased with how this shampoo worked out and look forward to many more washes and less plastic.
bkr Spiked Colette Water Bottle, 500 mL - Retail Value $38.00
Somehow, this is my first bkr bottle. I know they're a popular subscription box item and I've always kind of wanted one. I'm not normally a pink gal (colors vary) but this soft mauve is great. The spikes seem a little aggressive at first but since they are soft silicone, it turns out they're really comfortable. I love drinking from glass as opposed to plastic but I can't explain why. This bottle has been my sidekick ever since it arrived and I keep it filled with water to hydrate me throughout the day. What I appreciate most about this bottle is the small opening though. I am one of those people who will spill water all over herself if I drink from a wide-mouth bottle so this one is just perfect!
Meow Meow Tweet Rose Geranium Baking Soda Free Deodorant Stick, 1.8 oz - Retail Value $14.00
Although a mouthful to say, Meow Meow Tweet is hands down the cutest clean beauty brand. I've used their deodorant before as well as a lip balm and really appreciate the cardboard tube it comes in. Similar to a push pop, I just need to push the deodorant stick up from the bottom to expose some to use. I am low-key obsessed with both rose and geranium scents these days, so this natural fragrance is really pleasing to my nose. It's a little on the dry side, but once it's on, I've found it to work well and combat any stink I may create throughout the day. The only other downside to this is that over time the cardboard can start to get a little messy, but it's a small price to pay for preventing a little more plastic waste from going into the earth.
Baggu Standard Reusable Bag - Retail Value $12.00
I've been a huge Baggu fan for years. Their quality is fantastic and I'm always surprised by their designs. I probably have at least 5 other Baggu bags but I was still overjoyed to see this melon variation. It has a bright yellow background with a pattern of what I perceive to be large cantaloupes. Although my local grocery stores have temporarily banned bringing in reuseable bags right now, I can't wait to use this baby in the future to tote groceries (or other things) around.
David’s Premium Natural Toothpaste - Retail Value $9.95
Well well well- this happens to be the toothpaste that I already use so I'm a happy camper. I've become very taken by the (recyclable) aluminum tube that this paste comes in and the included "key" that is to be used to squeeze every last drop out. It feels very oldie-timey and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. The peppermint flavor tastes great and has an all-natural formula that keeps my teeth feeling super fresh. It's pricy, but I highly recommend this flavor or the one with charcoal. And again- a whole lot less plastic!
F.E.T.E. Bamboo Toothbrush, Natural Medium - Retail Value $4.99
I have been a long-time oral care enthusiast and get honestly geeked on new toothbrushes. After using so many different styles over the years, I'm trying my best to choose natural alternatives like this bamboo one. It can be composted (after removing bristles) once you've used it which is a nice way to reduce waste. Unfortunately, I just didn't like how this one felt while using it. I found the bristles to be a little harsh for my delicate gums (I probably need the "soft") and the head was a bit too large. There are great recyclable and biodegradable choices out there that I found to be a little more comfortable, but I appreciate the effort here!
Verdict: I was surprised that the spoilers for this box didn't have a favorable response from readers. I was personally really excited about the idea of this box as well as to see some different products that weren't skincare products from one brand. I also really love a lot of the featured brands. While I love almost everything that Detox Box sends, it's nice to have a break from serums and to get some broader products I don't normally see from them (like the shampoo bar or oral care). The perceived value may not be as high on this box as clean beauty though so I understand that most subscribers look forward to new serums or masks. In total, this box has a value of $107.94 for the six items aimed to replace unsustainable products in your home and reduce waste. I'm getting the most use out of the water bottle and shampoo bar, but I am living for each product (except that toothbrush).
