Winc April 2020 Review
When you sign up to join Winc, you take a six-question palate profile quiz to help determine your taste in wine. Based on your answers, Winc makes bottle recommendations for you every month. You can go along with their recommendations, choose your own bottles from their regularly changing selection, or skip the month completely. You can also take the palate profile test as often as you’d like.
The bottles are shipped in an upright cardboard box that has molded pieces to hold them in place. This helps prevent the bottles from bashing into one another during transport. The box is rather sturdy and has a convenient handle that makes it easy to carry.
Winc also included a card with a really fun little crossword puzzle!

I love anything bubbly so this rosé was an EASY choice! It was utterly delightful on a warm afternoon, chilled, and enjoyed in the grass. It has light and sweet fruity notes (think peaches, strawberries, and lemon peel) and fizzy bubbles that make it really aromatic. This bottle didn't last long at all and I wish I had more already. Basically, this is my ultimate summer sipper!

This jammy wine truly has it all! A power blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon, this red wine seems to have the best features of each. It smells like grapes as soon as you open the bottle, and the notes I noticed on my tongue were woods, red juicy fruits, and chocolate. There was also a nice little bit of pepper on the end that gave it depth. It was also slightly sweet, which I loved. Will and I enjoyed this bottle with the lamb from my recent Porter Road box, and it felt truly decadent!
2018 Debts & Lessons Riesling — $18.99 (or $16.99 through the subscription)

Monterey, California

I love sweet wine (sorry, not sorry) and I adore a good Riesling! They are fabulous alone chilled, as the base of a white sangria, or even in a cocktail (add some St. Germain to some Reisling sometime!). Basically, this wine is easy to love. It has notes of tart apples, lemon peel, and is somewhat floral too. It is the ideal porch wine, IMO, though I have also enjoyed it from the couch as well as with a nice dinner. This one is crisp and refreshing, and utterly perfect for a hot afternoon.
2018 Lost Poet Red Blend — $16.99 (or $14.99 through the subscription)
Currently, this wine is sold out.
California
Body: Medium
Sweetness: Slightly Sweet
Alcohol: 14%
Winemaking: Eco-Friendly, Low-Sulfur, Sustainable
I feel like this wine defines the term juicy! It absolutely bursts with notes of red fruits like poms, cherries, and strawberries. It was super easy to drink and was slightly sweet, but not overly so. The majority of this bottle was enjoyed with a cream-based pasta last week, but I am not ashamed to admit I finished off the last bit with toast one morning over the weekend.
Verdict: Winc was pretty awesome this month! I was so stoked to snag a bottle of Summer Water because it sells out so fast. I totally get why! Both of the red blends were dreamy and complemented the meals I have been cooking (as well as some breakfast toast). I am always down for a tasty Riesling, and this bottle did not disappoint! Though the selection on Winc has been hit or miss lately with such demand and so many bottles selling out, I am still thrilled with the options I selected and I can't wait to see what happens next time.
