BoxyLuxe June 2020 Review
Now, on to the items!
Kylie Skin by Kylie Jenner Foaming Face Wash, 5 fl oz – Retail Value $24.00
I've never tried any Kylie skincare products because they are rare to find in a box and I have never felt the need order or purchase any. I think celebrity brands can be really hit or miss, so I was very curious about this line. In stark contrast to the flashy lifestyle of the founder, this US-made face wash was downright demure! The packaging was cute and minimal, with a light pink box and cap, and a frosted plastic body. I expected there to be some sort of hidden shimmer and a strong scent, but this was sparkle free and the scent was super light and clean. Hmm! The ingredient list was pretty standard and nothing scary was hidden there that I could tell. The main callouts are glycerine, sodium hyaluronate (the super similar cousin of BAE hyaluronic acid), and kiwi seed oil. The foaming nozzle does a great job of creating a dense foam and I found 1-2 pumps was more than enough to cover my face. As far as cleansing, if you are wearing heavy, heavy makeup, you might need something with a little more power, but otherwise this is a pretty nice cleanser. It seems pretty par the course when compared to the majority of decent cleansers out there, but if you happen to be a Jenner fan, are in need of cleanser, or you are just curious, this is a good addition to this box. And, I will admit, I liked it!
Touch in Sol No Poreblem Prime Essence, 1.01 fl oz – Retail Value $23.00
This is probably the most beloved punny titled product in the MSA office. Whenever we see this we run around responding to comments with "its no poreblem!" for a few days. It sparks joy. Anyways, name aside, this is an interesting product. Most primers are cream-based or more of a clear powdery silicone-like gel, but this is a runny, clear liquid. I like that! Sometimes primers can feel heavy or (at worst) react weird with your foundation of choice. This is super lightweight and absorbs instantly, leaving a minimal finish on your skin but adding loads of hydration. It also smells great!
Tula Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm, 0.35 oz – Retail Value $28.00
Tula always has the prettiest packaging. Something about their particular shade of blue makes me happy. I also don't think I really have anything quite like this on rotation right now, and a cooling eye stick is literally what my summer skin needs (aside from SPF!). The smell here is a little odd, but nothing that would ever stop me from using the product. The stick itself is instantly cooling and leaves behind a very subtle pearl shimmer which immediately brightens the skin below my eyes. That area tends to be a little dull and dry, so this is an instant upgrade for me, especially on these often makeup-free days. In addition to the instant visible boost, there are great ingredients here that will help my skin shine all day, like aloe, caffeine, and antioxidant-rich fruit extracts from apples, watermelon, and blueberries.
tarte Tarteist PRO Amazonian Clay Palette - Retail Value $49.00
I am a big fan of these big tarte palettes. I received the tarte Tarteist PRO Remix Amazonian Clay Eyeshadow Palette in my Spring BoxyLuxe and I loved the formulas and shades. This assortment feels like a great complement to that palette and between the two I feel like I have millions of options in terms of beautiful combinations. This palette is more matte focused, in fact, only 4 of the 20 shades are shimmers, but it was a welcome addition to my stash since my shimmer and metallics greatly outnumber my high-quality matte formulas. Each is also artfully arranged in a cohesive collection with each line of 5 shades coming together to form a total eye look or you can choose to mix and match. Pigment and texture-wise, these were all really lovely!
Top to bottom: Classic, Innocent, Whimsy, Smoked, and Ethereal
Top to bottom: Vintage, Fierce, No Filter, Vamp, and Glam.
Top to bottom: Chic, Profesh, Mod, Drama, and Minx.
Top to bottom: Indie, Bold, Edgy, Punk, and Trendy.
And here is a comparison shot between both palettes.
Osea Gua Sha Sculptor – Retail Value $32.00
Would you believe me if I said this was my FIRST EVER Gua Sha in a box? I think it actually might be! I have wanted one for a while because we are studying facial massage and manipulations in school and I feel like this would be a really cool technique to explore, especially with a luxurious facial oil and a chilled Gua Sha! This tool is used to sculpt the face and promote lymphatic drainage, as well as just feeling really nice. Mine arrived with a protective pouch and an informative card with an illustration showing you exactly the rhythm to utilize. It is going to take some practice, but this is a tool I am thrilled to have in my collection!
Billion Dollar Brows Charcoal 5-Piece Brush Set - Retail Value $65.00
I am a brush hoarder, and this set has brushes with heads infused with charcoal. They are also vegan and cruelty-free. Inside there is a powder brush, contour brush, concealer, eyeshadow, and highlighter brush. It is a pretty well-rounded assortment and the matte handles and gold ferrules are very chic.
Pureheals Propolis Sleeping Mask, 100 mL each - Retail Value $55.00 (currently on sale for $25.21)
I sampled this back in a FaceTory delivery last year and enjoyed it. It is kind of exciting to have a whole pot now! There is something about K-Beauty sleep masks that my skin just agrees with and they always seem to come with the adorable little scoops! It also happens to have some really great stuff inside! Niacinamide is brightening, moisturizing, and helps with acne. The glycerine and hyaluronic acid both help boost moisture and plump skin. There is also aloe and loads of energizing bee propolis! It has a warm honey sort of scent and is on the heavier side, though all of that disappeared by morning, leaving behind radiant skin.
Bodyography Lip Pencil in 'Pouty' - Retail Value $14.00
Bodyography Lip Pencil in 'Rosewood' - Retail Value $14.00
Our last item is a duo of lip liners in a dirty pink and plummy red. Both apply very smoothly, but don't last a super long time, at least not for me. I found applying them over my entire lip was a better showcase of their pretty colors and with a balm on top; they look like a satin lipstick.
Top: Pouty, Bottom: Rosewood
Verdict: The total retail value of this BoxyLuxe was around $304 which is great for a $49.99 box. I thought this was a pretty great assortment! I am in love with the tarte palette and I have been wanting a Gua Sha tool. I also thought the Tula eye stick, primer essence, and sleeping mask were all great. I was also pleasantly pleased with the Kylie cleanser, too! Brushes are always welcome in my boxes and though the lip liners weren't a favorite of mine, they were both nice shades. I am pretty happy with this assortment of brands and products and think this was a great BoxyLuxe.
